Who said he would be playing a gay character?
I think this is the gay actor who has publicly stated on numerous occasions that he would like his character on Y&R to be revealed as gay, which some have alluded to being why he was dismissed from Y&R, so there was probably a deal struck to give him a gay character to play, but at a different Sony soap.
He was publicly open to that idea since 2015, and it never materialized (Y&R made Kevin father Chloe's baby). It would be odd to randomly fire him over that 2 years later.

His greater point in talking about the idea of Kevin being gay was that it would be more responsible for a show to make a character that fans already know and consider part of their "family" a gay character. Soaps sometimes have a penchant for bringing on new characters that fans are not already connected to and making them gay (DAYS of course did not follow that formula with Will). In a sense that almost feels like tokenism sometimes, TPTB bringing on a character fitting a certain label as a solution to diversifying a show. I mean it's an improvement, but his point was that it would be much more meaningful to add representation from within. It doesn't "otherize" a gay person as someone new and unfamiliar, but establishes them as someone you may already know and love, and that sends a very positive message in regards to acceptance. It also provides an opportunity to delve into so much emotionally - if an already established character is made to be gay (an element that was never explored with said character before), the show is obligated to address the person's coming out, family reactions, etc. So it's done in a more tasteful and nuanced way, than just adding a new character and establishing from the get-go that he or she is gay, without much substance. I never got the impression that GR came out and then became aggressive to have his own character do the same. I feel that he spoke out on it because as a gay man he understands the experience in a way that no straight person ever could, and he wanted to explain what the best form of diversity would be for his community in a medium he is familiar with.
I'm grateful that Y&R didn't make Kevin gay. Based upon Kevin's past actions, I don't think it would have gone over well.

I'm liking how they are writing for Tessa/Mariah.

I never want to make assumptions based on an actors sexuality. That is their private life......but we can draw conclusions based on the make up of the show right now (no love interest for him with the women on the show) and his own wishes (he wants to play a gay character badly). I don't blame him for wanting to play a gay character......a lot of actors who are straight want to portray a gay character.

I hope we arrive at a day when this just isn't a big deal either way. There's been progress made, but not enough yet.

He's only gay and married though. No assumption needed.

That's fine, and I'm not advocating either way on the topic of Kevin, but his whole point went beyond that. It wasn't just a Kevin thing, he sees making established characters gay a more socially responsible way of pursuing this topic on a soap. That's what I agree with.

This is excellent news. I’m a big fan! Seen him out in West Hollywood before and at the Daytime Emmys. He’s so handsome!

If he does end up being gay on the show, I'd be very intrigued. I could see him having chemistry with CM, CS or FS. Has an American soap ever had a younger/older gay couple before? All of the examples that come to mind are usually actors or actresses of the same age demographic, so it would be cool if that element was portrayed as it's fairly common in real life.

AWESOME!

An openly gay actor (possibly) playing a gay character!! I'm thrilled (IF it happens). So tired of watching str8 actors who are visibly uncomfortable (CM & FS for example) squirming through a gay kiss.

Its ALWAYS better (IMO) when one of the actors is actually gay. Van Hansis (Luke), Scott Evans (Fish), Conrad Ricamora (Oliver on HTGAWM).

True, this should be a moot point by now, but it's not. And as a gay man I'm THRILLED at the possibly than an actor whose family might be representing us on screen.

I might actually start watching again if they get rid of Freddie, send WilSon packing (give them their happy ending and end this torture. Freddie is actually painful to watch. Literally cringe when he's on), and give Paul (CS can actually pull off playing gay) someone worthy of CS's talent.

Yup. He called her out when she backed Chick-fil-a citing free speech over their homophobia (and donations to homophobic causes). This was around the time that the Will coming out story was at its peak and getting tons of media attention and praise too, so it was a bad look. Greg called her out, and she ended up blocking him. Better question would've been who did she end up not blocking when this happened?

So not in the mood to hear of any new actors, playing any new characters right now. I really think days should concentrate on bringing back familiar core characters in the 30 something age groups to have long term couples to root for with realistic conflicts and life issues, imo, this factor is missing comparing couples of today with established couples such as stayla and jarlena.

Do we know MR's present day stand on the GLBT/FOS issues?

It was memorable to see Jennifer at the Will and Sonny wedding, but quite the blast to see Jennifer give Sonny his Horton Christmas Ornament!

Somewhere on Facebook someone suggested the GR's role could be that of Peter Blake! I'm not sure if it was someone clueless or a joke.

I have to say I agree. This show desperately needs a 20something to 30 something generation of actors. like the way AW rejuvenated itself in the 90's by bringing on Rachel & Mac's kids, Donna Love's daughters etc and letting "the sins of the father visit the son," (so to speak).
