The cast chart makes it even more obvious what a bubble Steve and Kayla are in. Are they ever allowed to be on without the other?

Deidre cracking into the top 10 makes me laugh, and is such a great example of how screwed up this year has been in regards to guarantees and airing.

I guess I am not "insider" enough to understand what this means. Is the budget being busted by Deidre Hall going over her guarantee?

I was just about to post how nice it was to see her in the Top Ten. Isn't that what many fans have been clamoring for....the *stars* of the show actually appearing on the show? Deidre Hall is probably the most recognizable and identifiable DOOL star to nearly everyone in the TV universe.

I was also going to add that this means we won't see her for months on end since she has banked so many episodes already.....except if the Will Storyline is front and center for the rest of 2017, then she will likely appear a lot more.

I’m not sure what you’re implying. I’m not complaining about it. I think it’s funny because she barely aired for six months and now she’s in the top ten. I think it’s funny because to get in the top ten right now, you don’t have to have a very high episode count because their guarantees are so low. There’s nothing “insider” about my comment.

I’ll add something insider though. Her guarantee was upped when Ron came in, so I don’t think she’ll disappear quite like that. They all (except chabby and Rope) disappear a bit because their guarantees are so low, but I don’t think she has a big break coming right now.

Are the guarantees by the week, month or year? I'm thinking by the year, but I'm not sure.

I know the performers are paid for their guaranteed episodes even if they're not met, but what happens if the show uses them for more episodes than they're guaranteed? Do they get paid extra?

In a recent Voldemort, there was an article about budget cuts. I remember reading that in the past when you had a 2 episode guarantee, you ended up way over most years but that now writers and producers were trying to hit the exact number (104 episodes was mentioned in the article). So I'm guessing they look at those things by the year unless you have a different contract.

The guarantees seem to be yearly but I think I read something (I think it was AS who said it) that they check them every 13-week cycle.

I wonder about performers who play double roles. Wouldn't Deidre's eppi count be 107 then lol? Or 74, if she has a 2 contract for the role of Hattie?

Looking at the past 12 months of airshows (which doesn't necessary translate to 12 months in a contract but shouldn't be that far off if the actor was there the whole time), Deidre has currently 96 episodes. If she played both roles in 1 episode, I think we are supposed to count the episode once so that what I did. And Deidre taped a few more episodes than didn't air (her scenes got completely cut).

Spoiler: click to toggle

Deidre’s numbers are a little wonky because of the Hattie stuff but the episode counts for Marlena match the John episodes almost to a T since ron took over, which is new. They’ve each had only a handful of days they weren’t both on.

Yeah. I think it's an average based on their contract cycle. So if Deidre has a 2 episode guarantee, that's 2 episodes per week. But she doesn't have to literally be in 2 episodes a week. It just has to average to that by the end of her cycle. So in 13 weeks, she should have appeared in 26 episodes. There are actors who have longer cycles, though, and that might change the amount of time they have to fit that in. I'm not sure about that. But hypothetically, that could mean that a person with a 2 episode guarantee in a 52 week cycle would just have to appear in 104 for the year.

I'm not sure how the doubles work. I heard at one point that it's separate from their main guarantees. What makes this more confusing for me is that last year when Deidre was Hattie, that seemed to be on her regular guarantee. It even seemed to only happen SO that she could meet that guarantee while they were figuring out what was going on with Drake. But this summer, I think it might have been separate. I think most of the couples have matching guarantees, but Hattie puts Deidre over Drake right now.
