Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Hi thepadange!

Women 18-34 went down when Quigley took over in 2016.
They have gone up under Carlivati!

Hi, and thanks for the graph!
Oh, I wasn't exactly blaming RC for these numbers. But it's kind of unusual to see that Days are only -6,000 in W18-49 compared to B&B, but it's -27,000 in W18-34 compared to B&B. Apparently Days is more popular under women 35-49.
Several years ago (2013 in particular, there were periods Days was pretty strong in the demo). Weren't they even #1 or #2 sometimes in W18-34?
The worst damage that Griffith and Higley's eras inflicted was in the young women's demo. You can see it in the graph! They lost Days more than half their W18-34 viewers! W18-49 suffered bad too, just not *as* bad as the young women's! That's where the differences between W18-34 and W18-49 come from, I believe. It's because Days was hit hardest by the Griffith and Higley eras in the young women's demo! Griffith and Higley lost Days more than half their young women viewers in less than two years! From the publicity-backed 50th, to Higley's bitter end, they lost more than two-thirds of their young women viewers!

Young people watch less and less traditional TV, there's not much soaps can do about that.

If you look at Days, that means that losing 30-40% of the W18-34 demo in 5 years would have been "normal". But since they lost way more (50%? 60%?), there was certainly a problem due to the show itself as well. Ron won't be able to make miracles in that demo and bring back numbers from years ago but if he can start beating Dena's numbers from last year, that would be positive.

Griffith and Higley's Days lost *WAY* more than "normal"! Two-thirds in less than two years!

Yes Ron is unlikely to be able to make miracles, due to the "global" trends that you have highlighted, but the usual suspects at SON's rating thread will probably continue to bash him for not doing so.

I would say that it is all the more notable that Ron has closed the gap between 2017 and 2016 in the young women's demo, and achieved a rising trend on taking up the reins, whereas Quigley couldn't do that.

I don't know what to think about Ron's numbers yet (all the numbers, not just the demo we were discussing). There's improvement for sure but there usually is during the second half the year.

I think Ron is a good writer for Days, I think that he made a lot of good decisions since he was hired but I expected better ratings by now. We had been waiting for him to wrap up Dena's stories and for all the returns to be in effect and they were in November with Ali, Chandler, Eileen, Kassie all airing. But there's nothing impressive about the current ratings, they just seem good enough for another renewal. I'm curious to see if Ron continues as headwriter next year, I imagine yes but I wouldn't be shocked if he was replaced.

If their ratings don't go down unexpectedly, I think Ron's job is safe for one more year.
Btw, whom could they hire if they decided to replace him?

Maybe it's because GH is doing so well that Days numbers don't impress me.

I would rather not think about who would replace Ron. Like you said, he's probably safe unless the ratings really sucks around the holidays.

Yeah, GH is doing wonders, especially, in the demos :D .

I'm a relatively young person (26 years old) and know that the fact that GH is on Hulu and comes out every evening is a big plus for me. When they're interesting, I watch Days and GH online in the evening or a few episodes in a row these days since I work 9-5. It's definitely a perk that I can watch GH without commercials the same day that it airs through Hulu. I imagine that could help their younger viewership in general.

Tomsell again they were last half decent writers to me 2012 and 2013 was great for so many and despite their critics gave Days some really good ratings especially in demos. Yes they tanked big time in late 2014 and 2015 but i think Corday would give them another chance if Ron gets the boot which i hope he doesn't he not a bad writer way better than Dena.

The SON Commentary section should be closed down.

GH is in the worst shape it has ever been. There is no accounting for taste.
