This is Days' highest week for young women since Boxing Day week 2016. It's also DOUBLE the number of young women viewers watching in Carlivati's first full week. Edited by Stephen Steps Out, Mar 2 2018, 05:21 PM.

Thanks for the charts! Curious to see if these young women who watched Days that week stick around or if it was just an anomaly. Also will Y&R and B&B recover? That's really bad to hit all time lows in February already. |

I think it's a given that Days Women 18-34 will fall again next week. It's the way with sudden leaps up! The only question for me is "how far?" They could even fall lower than last week! It's happened before! We shall see. I hope they retain some of it. Days did a curious thing that week. They had a big Will Horton cliffhanger the Friday before (Will taken by gunpoint by John to the mausaleum, and suggestion he may remember!), and then gave us nothing more of that for the whole week! Did the cliffhanger attract the young set? The young women's demo went up with the Will's Alive story, but went down again when they started backburning him over Christmas, and that story lost momentum. Sure there's a hundred ways to interpret the ratings. Sami left, and the new Ciara came on unattractively harsh at the end of the year, and now she's very watchable, and is working well with Tripp. We all have our likes and dislikes and see different things in the ratings! One thing I think we can say is that Ron's got his ticket to stay with Days another year - thanks to the increases in totals, households, and key at the beginning of the year, and now finally lifting the very stubborn young women's. I'm glad about that! For me, Days is still a patchwork of stuff I really like and stuff that bores me, but I've noticed something in my viewing experience of Ron's Days. When it does dip into the boring (for me), enjoyable stuff has always popped up soon after, sometimes with things that started out dull getting proper interesting, so I have more confidence in it now. I started watching again because Ron was bringing back Will and Sami, and ended up hugely enjoying other stuff like Chloe, Anna, Roman, Vivian. I have loved all the returns we've had, however brief. Belle was priceless, and I'm thrilled to get Carrie and Billie in too. I think Y&R and B&B will pop up some (they were brought down by pre-emptions) but as to recover, that's a different story! They've got more than last week to recover from! I don't watch them, but the demos suggest they need major work, although they both remain beasts in the totals. It seems that one must ask what happened in 2013 that thereafter the demos fell so far? Is that when Peter left? The fall was pretty drastic. |

No, he left in 2012. TomSell seemed to run out of steam in 2014, and everything they built to kind of turned on its head. Idk if that did it or not, but it sounds right to me lol. |

I think the reason why the demos significantly fell in 2014 and 2015 is because they had increases in the demos in 2013 (and first half of 2014). As paradox as it sounds, it's true for all the shows, not only Days. It happened to Y&R after the big increases Pratt had. |

I don't think it will sustain. I think it's the Olympic bump, just like Superbowl bumps you made us aware of LOL. Edited by thepadange, Mar 3 2018, 09:58 AM.

It's because the general trend is decreasing numbers in the demo and even when the show is good and has some increases, at some point the trend takes over and it goes down even more. Edited by thepadange, Mar 3 2018, 10:01 AM.

It's possible the big cliffhanger the week before impacted the ratings for Days but I have learned over the years that big short-term variations are more often explained by the circumstances (pre-emptions, holidays, weather) than the content of the show (characters, couples, stories featured). The previous week, I think the superbowl airing on NBC helped Days get a really big Monday. This week, I think the Olympics hurt Days with older viewers who didn't know that the show was airing in weird timeslots but it helped with younger women for some reason, maybe they usually don't watch daytime TV but they did because of the Olympics, which benefited Days since it aired right before or right after. It will be interesting to see if those unusual viewers were interested by what they saw and continue to watch. That being said, I do believe the content of the show impacts the ratings but it's something that usually happens over time, people start turning in more frequently when the show is consistently good and less frequently when it consistently bad, after a while those small variations make a big difference. Days and GH are in good shape because they built some good momentum over the past few months, Y&R and B&B are in bad shape because they didn't. On a few occasions, I have noticed the content of the show impacting the ratings right away: when there is a big story climaxing, when there is a lot of buzz for an event, when the show has "weird" episodes. It's always fun when that happens because you can point something that the show did as a success or a failure. But most of the time, I look at the ratings and I cannot explain why they are up or down that day or that week based on what happened in the episodes, it's a complete mystery. |

I don’t think the super bowl bump was a thing anyway, but that was in total viewers for the day, not the weekly demo. I don’t think the demo will sustain that high but I think the bigger deal here is that the show probably should have crashed. The show even told us not to watch. The household number was low compared to recent weeks but it didn’t crash in the way that seemed to be expected. |
