DAYS: Background Music; What happened to good scoring?

Watching 90s Days Clips on youtube, I am reminded that Days used to have excellent musical scoring during their scenes. I thought the music selection captured the darker vibe Days used to have, along with the emotion, and intensity.

Here is just an example:

[dohtml]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gS-5ZuZwvFk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gS-5ZuZwvFk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/dohtml]

Who is incharge of music now? is the the same person? or someone new?

DAYS had very good background music throughout 1994-2001.

The Princess Gina themes from 1999 were all excellent.
There were lots of special composed music for that storyline. They were all very dramatic and emotional. Also notice (for those who have those episodes left) how they composed different themes for each different chapter in the Princess Gina storyline.

DAYS clearly put much more of an effort in the music back then.

I guess DAYS decided to put all that effort into special effects instead. Does anyone know when DAYS starting doing the special effects at the end of most the eppies?

Yes! It's all went to hell.

More examples of the great music from DAYS past...

"Hope is transformed into Princess Gina" (1998)

Marlena's Possession (SCREAMING MONKEYS!)

Sami/Carrie Catfight (notice how the music shifts dramatically as soon as Carrie slaps the shit out of Sami!)

[dohtml]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NKGz9ymZU3M"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NKGz9ymZU3M" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/dohtml]

Marlena/Kristen Catfight (extended theme from the Sami/Carrie fight above)

[dohtml]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rEnxit3jmXc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rEnxit3jmXc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/dohtml]

More "Possession!" (note, not only is the music superb, but the dark, gothic, moody lighting on the set is amazing as well. Also love the use of Christmas decorations as a backdrop. I'll miss that damn penthouse!)

The background music was better. More than that, though, I'm feeling like we've been cheated out of catfights lately, and that's a damn shame.

AMEN to that. Gotta love a good ol catfight. Man thanks for posting those Mardevil clips. LOVE THAT FUNKY ASS MUSIC. Days has had the BEST music on daytime. EVER!! Ken Corday does the music. He may not know how to run this show but the man can write some music. CLASSIC DAYS!! Good times indeed

The music now is like some bad techno left over from the early 90s..that synthesizer and such. Oh my god, it's just so bad. The music actually makes this show SUCK at times.

I think the music was best around 1993-1998. It was also good 1999-2002. Here in Sweden we are on the 2003 episodes and I have notice that the music is becoming much worse. I've seen alot of people say that they 80s had the best music but I only liked a few songs from that time.

Here are some of my favorite songs.

This first clip is from February 2003. One of my favorite songs in the 00s starts to play 04:39 into the clip.

This clip is from December 2002, there are two songs that I liked alot in this clip.
The first song starts to play 00:23 when Colin walks outside the house spying on Jennifer and Jack. The second one starts to play 07:40 after Tony (Andre) says: I want conformation that that bastard is dead.

This clip is from February 1998. The song starts to play 00:24. It's my all time favorite song on Days.

Most of my favorite songs are from the 90s but it's hard to find clip with them.

I didn't mind the music around 2000, but the stuff in the earlier years wasn't always that great for my viewing/listening pleasure. It made DAYS seem like a musical.

I remember in the late ninities they were ALWAYS playing LeAnn Rimes "How Do I Live".

People would be at one place and it would be playing then it was also playing at another place as well. And it would continue thoughout the whole episode.

Loved the music during the Reilly Era!

When I bought the DAYS soundtrack in 98...was a little disappointed to see alot of the cues I liked and enjoyed werem't on there(like Bo and Hope had a regular theme during the Reilly era was very piano heavy).

Part of DAYS's success(and any soap opera) is a really good score.

The cues have gotten ALOT better lately, but they are nowhere near where they were when Reilly was on the show the first time around.

I agree. I also have the soundtrack from 98, I like most of the songs on that one.

The Background music has improved lately. I have heard some new cues play, like the one in the first scene with Stefano on Wednesdays episode. And since Ed Scott came, they have been using older cues from 2001-2003 more often. From Wednesdays episode in one of the scenes with Stefano and Rolf, when Stefano put fire on the letter, that song that played in that scene was also used around 2001-2003.

ITA, Sindacco. I think the themes have gotten better.

As much as I hate Santeen, I love that Irishy Ballad score that came out of it.

Corday's concentration in college was music scoring. There is really no reason for DAYS to have had bad themes for as long as it did. It really started to go downhill in 1999. The one swamp girl theme was awful, and the Susan/Edmund theme was also really bad. I don't know how they made it onto the DAYS soundtrack. Haha.

I absolutly hated the three songs from the Bayou/Swamp Girl storyline that was on the soundtrack.

I liked almost every song on that soundtrack except those three and Susan & Edmuns theme. Just like bellcurve, I was also disappointed that some of my favorite cues from the 90s weren't on that CD.

Like you said, it went downhill in 1999, but IMO they still had alot of good till 2002/early 2003. For me, it went in a real downhill in 2003. But the mid 90s had the best scores IMO.
