Ripa finds haven in the Hamptons
BY LAURA MANN
SPECIAL TO NEWSDAY
Mark Consuelos and wife Kelly Ripa almost gave the Hamptons a pass.
"We resisted for many years…we're not looking for the party, and we were afraid that was all the Hamptons was going to be," Consuelos tells Hampton Style Magazine in the latest issue which hits newsstands on July 27.
That was before the couple rented a home in Bridgehampton, "and fell in love with the whole lifestyle," the former soap opera star and host of NBC television's reality dating show "Age of Love" explains.
Three years ago, Consuelos and Ripa, who co-hosts ABC television's "Live With Regis and Kelly", set down roots in Southampton. Consuelos describes their home in the Hampton Style cover story.
"You walk in and you feel like there's apple pie being baked. It's a traditional, Dutch, shingle-and-cedar colonial house. Like a little gingerbread house." The décor is "slightly slick with dark floors, but really Hamptons; antique-y, nice rugs, very comfortable seating, good lighting, soft paints."
Despite the demands of fame, the couple and their three children have found a haven out East. "It's a place for us to be a family," Consuelos says in the article, "And we have great friends out there. It's as normal and relaxing as we want it to be."
Consuelos and Ripa, who first met while acting on the ABC soap opera "All My Children" have learned to manage the number of parties and events they attend in the Hamptons. "The trick is not to do 90 percent of it. On a scale from one to ten, we like to keep it to a three."
Ripa will be special guest this Saturday, July 28, at Super Saturday 10, a fundraiser held at Nova's Ark Project in Water Mill, to benefit The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The actress hosted last year's event, which raised over $2.4 million.
