These are Eastern Times (neighbor lived in North Carolina at the time) Fall 1977: ABC: 6:00 - local 7:00 - Good Morning America 9:00 - local 11:00 - Happy Days (reruns) 11:30 - Family Feud 12:00 - The Better Sex 12:30 - Ryan's Hope 1:00 - All My Children 2:00 - The $20,000 Pyramid 2:30 - One Life To Live 3:15 - General Hospital 4:00 - The Edge of Night CBS 6:00 - Sunrise Semester 7:00 - CBS Morning News 8:00 - Captain Kangaroo 9:00 - local 10:00 - Here's Lucy (reruns) 10:30 - The Price Is Right 11:30 - Love of Life 11:55 - CBS News 12:00 - Young & the Restless 12:30 - Search For Tomorrow 1:00 - local programming 1:30 - As The World Turns 2:30 - The Guiding Light 3:00 - All in the Family (reruns) 3:30 - Match Game '77 4:00 - Tattletales NBC 6:00 - local 7:00 - The Today Show 9:00 - local 10:00 - Sanford & Son (reruns) 10:30 - Hollywood Sqaures 11:00 - Wheel of Fortune (Chuck Woolery was host then) 11:30 - Knockout 12:00 - To Say the Least 12:30 - Chico & the Man (reruns) 1:00 - local 1:30 - Days of Our Lives 2:30 - The Doctors 3:00 - Another World 4:00 - The Gong Show (I can remember that lineup on NBC so well. Mom and I would start watching NBC - and Dad if he was home - at 11:00 with WOF then turn it over LOL, Y&R, SFT on CBS, then 30 minutes of AMC on ABC, and then the afternoon lineup on NBC ending with The Gong Show. During Days we would switch back and forth between it and ATWT.) By Winter of 77/78, ABC had expanded both OLTL & GH to an hour on Jan 16, 1978 - creating a block of soaps that ran from 12:30 to 4:30 beginning with RH and ending with EON. On CBS that Winter season, GL was expanded to an hour in Nov 77. They moved Match Game up to 11:00 a.m. time slot. CBS' soaps began at 11:30 but at 1:00 they gave the local affiliates 30 minutes which broke the lineup. On NBC For Richer For Poorer (the retooled Lovers & Friends) debuted and aired 1:00 as the lead in to Days and the start of the NBC soap lineup. The Gong Show was moved from 4:00 to 12:30, because the network took the time slot at 1:00 back to air FRFP and the affiliates wanted another time - so NBC gave them the 4:00 p.m. timeslot. In the Spring of 78, NBC debuted 2 new game shows Card Sharks & High Rollers. They put CS on before Hollywood Squares, followed by HR, then WOF - creating 2 hours of back to back game shows. CBS moved Match Game back to the 4:00 p.m. timeslot against Edge of Night. In the Summer of 78 - the only change was that CBS debuted the successful game show, Tic Tac Dough - one of my Mom's faves. |
