Linked You can knock Passions for being too campy or the cast for being too pretty (and for having a character actually named Pretty), but you can't criticise it for a lack of diversity. Minority characters often linger on the back burner on soaps, but Passions has always featured them front and centre. The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has honoured Passions with its 2007 American Scene Award, which recognises excellence in programming that portrays diversity in a positive and realistic light. Passions is the only daytime drama to win this award back-to-back. Cathy Jeneen Doe (Simone) accepted the award on behalf of NBC/Universal Studios Inc. and executive producer Lisa de Cazotte. |

They do deserve this award. Diversity has not once ever been an issue on Passions |

That's true. Except for that horrible Flashback of Stereotypes they made back when Liz was Eve's sister. God, the FoS still makes me angry. Still- one of the things that's sad about it's impending shift to DirectTV is that it is the most diverse cast, and they didn't prove that you can have that and be successful. And you know with network tv they probably see the diverse cast as a factor in the show's demise. |
