Edwards, Ferrin et al. Cast in Pre-Broadway Run of 39 Steps
By: Dan Bacalzo
Full cast and creative team information has been announced for the Huntington Theatre Company's pre-Broadway run of The 39 Steps, to be directed by Maria Aitken, September 14-October 14, with an official opening on September 19. Broadway dates have not yet been set.
The play is a comedic take on Hitchcock's 1935 classic thriller of the same name (inspired by John Buchan's 1915 novel), and features four actors playing more than 100 characters. Aitken helmed the London production, which was adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on a concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon. The play won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.
The show's London star Charles Edwards, will reprise his role as dashing hero Richard Hannay, who is forced by a mysterious woman's death into a cross-country race for his life. Edwards' film credits include An Ideal Husband, Mansfield Park, Batman Begins, and the forthcoming The All Together.
The show will also star Emmy Award-winning actress Jennifer Ferrin, best known as Jennifer Munson on CBS's As The World Turns. Ferrin also recently starred in the acclaimed miniseries The Kill Point.
Also featured in the cast will be Arnie Burton -- whose stage credits include The Jew of Malta, The Merchant of Venice, and The Last Sunday in June -- and Cliff Saunders, whose film and TV credits include Chicago, Monk, the Eloise TV movies, and even a 1988 episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
The creative team will include Peter McKintosh (scenic and costume designer), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Mic Pool (sound). For more information, visit www.huntingtontheatre.org.
