It is nice to look at previews for a show and see names you care about and are familiar with. I agree that all shows need new blood to a certain extent, but what keeps viewers tuning in is attachment - attachment to characters, attachment to performers, attachment to couples, etc. It takes awhile to build that type of relationship with new blood.
B&B might have some problems but it doesn't with familiarity. Looking at the ratings B&B hurts most when it features newbie Constantine.
