I don't see Denise as a liar. In fact, she held lying against others as she wanted everyone measured by her standards. Denise is the one I believe. Whoever wrote this may not have her facts straight.

I don't buy her woe is me act. Looks like even the castaways knew she was promoted to janitor before she left as well.

On the Survivor reunion Sunday night, Denise told a sad story about how she came back and was demoted from lunch lady to night janitor at her school because she was too well-known. But the school district quickly replied to this claim with a press release saying the story is completely untrue. How do they describe the situation? What is the evidence? And what does fellow contestant Courtney have to add to the discussion?

One of the most dramatic moments of the Survivor: China live reunion on Sunday night was Denise telling the story of how she was no longer a school lunch lady. She had been demoted to being a night custodian, she said, because she was too recognizable and her presence was a distraction.

I, like many others, couldn't believe what I was hearing. Most Survivor contestants receive support from their hometowns, not penalties at work. Sure, some get fired when they have to take a long leave of absence to play and aren't necessarily allowed to explain why, but this was a different situation.

Denise's story sounded horrible. She had to clean toilets instead of making sandwiches. She had to miss dinner with her family and other activities with her kids. It was a true tale of woe. It was so bad that Mark Burnett decided to give her $50,000 to get her life back together again.

But now word has come out that while it was indeed a tale of woe, it might not have actually been a true tale at all.

On Monday morning, Nancy Lane, the superintendent of Douglas Public Schools, where Denise works, issued a press release and posted it on the school system's website. In it, Lane says flat-out that Denise's statement about being demoted "is false." The release continues: "In fact, Mrs. Martin held a full-time position as a custodian prior to her participation in the series, and she returned to this same position upon her return from China."

Later, the release adds, "Although Mrs. Martin was a cafeteria employee prior to her selection as a contestant, she asked to be considered for a promotion to full-time custodian, and was promoted to this position on March 30, 2007. This promotion came with additional benefits and a higher salary. Following her leave, she then returned to this same position." (Emphasis in original.)

When I was interviewing Courtney, the topic of Denise came up. We talked about it not as part of the transcribed interview, but just as a discussion point, since Courtney had been criticized for slamming Denise on the show and then Denise received the $50,000 gift from Mark Burnett. I mentioned the superintendent's press release and Courtney told me that Denise had told her fellow players the same thing as the press release said while they were in China, regarding her getting a promotion to janitor.

Right now, things don't look good for Denise. The press release makes it sound like the district went out of their way to do whatever they could to help Denise - giving her time off, holding her position for her, etc. And then Denise went on national television, a show watched by some 15 million people, and slammed them.

Denise was the only final four contestant who did not call me during their allotted interview time, with no explanation. I am forced to wonder if the reason for her missed call has something - or everything - to do with this issue.

Since I couldn't talk to her directly about it, I have to rely on other reports. EW.com received the following response from CBS about the situation: "The comments made by [Denise] on the program were compelling and sympathetic. If these statements were misleading or false, we hope that she will take immediate and public steps to clarify her remarks."

Superintendent Lane also told EW.com that she had spoken to Denise on Monday afternoon and that Denise was apologetic. However, Lane said, "she did not explain why she said that, to my satisfaction." She further noted that Denise's job is still waiting for her when she returns from L.A., but, "I might have a few things I'd like to talk about." Indeed.

I hope Denise will soon go public with an explanation of what happened. In the meantime, I am forced to wonder what Mark Burnett will do with that $50,000 he said he'd give her. It seems unrealistic to expect him to pay up now that it turns out her sob story might not have even been true - and in fact she might be better off financially than she was previously!

Since Denise has not spoken out on this, I like to try to keep an open mind. However, the evidence does not look good for her. Either she told a tall tale on national TV, or we have a combination of a school superintendent lying plus Courtney lying to me for no reason plus Denise being very quiet about the whole thing. It's not looking good, Denise.

I'm not surprised in the least. This was Denise's whole strategy to make people feel sorry for her.

First of all my reaction was... seriously?? Todd?!?!

BUT thinking now, had I been in that jury, I would totally vote for Todd to win too.

His answers were awesome! He is such a great liar and manipulator (what he did to J.R. at the TC was hilariously amazing!) and he can sugarcoat anything. His answer seemed cohesive and true, while Amanda pretty much looked pathetic with her sad eyes, apologizing to people and Courtney being... well, Courtney!

I loved the reunion show! It was so great! So fun! Had so much laughs!

I loved how Jeff mentioned all those big moments of the season.

And Court, Amanda and Todd look sooo much different now! I didn't even recognize them at first!

I just didn't like how he asked Erik about being a virgin. I mean, it's such a personal question. But I do have to give it to Erik for admitting that he's still a virgin. Not that I think there is anything wrong with that, but it's just... well something that I don't think it's that common today... I don't know.. maybe I'm wrong...

If Denise's story is true, then I really feel bad for her. But if she lied, then WOW! I did kinda feel she was using her situation as her tactic.

It's hilarious how two people I hated the most this year in reality shows won (Dick and now Todd). I wonder if Nate and Jenn will win TAR?!

The school district has no reason to lie about what happened and it has been reported on ew.com and tvguide.com that she flat out lied about the situation. Though I'm not sure if Mark Burnett should take the money back or that she should refuse to accept it because a promotion to janitor isn't going to be having her rolling in the dough.

LoL, guess I'm in the minority, because I was thrilled that Todd won. I thought he played a great game.

Also shocked to hear that Denise could have been lying about being fired from her job. I really liked her too and felt for her when she told the story.

I read on another board that Denise admitted to lying on the Early Show this morning. The Boston Globe also found out that Denise was making over $17 an hour as a janitor.

I'm glad she admitted she lied though. It takes alot of courage for her to admit that.

OM, Johnny Fairplay back? Who is going to believe anything he says? On the bright side, I'm liking Yeo Man and Ozzy coming back. Also liking Parvati and Cirie's return. It's going to be good.

BTW Peih-Gee is posting at sucks. I've died and gone to heaven.

As for the half all-stars.

Fairplay: Hate him but he deserves it. I really don't see him lasting long though. He's pretty hated.

Ami: Meh. I really hated her but started to like her at the end of Vanuatu. I could see her go early too. The guys might get to scared she'll go "woman power" again.

Eliza: WOOO!! I'll be rooting for her. I could totally see her alligning with Ami.

Cirie: Love her. She'll have to use her masterful social skills to keep her alive though as she may be a target for being weak.

Jonathan: Glad he's back. I always enjoyed him in Cook Islands. I could see him and Eliza alligning together as well.

Parvati: Meh. I think they could of casted someone better.

Ozzy: GROSS. Can't stand him.

Yau Man: <3 Hopefully he can last long.

James: Don't really care for him.

Amanda: I'm glad she's getting a 2nd chance. Hopefully, she doesn't screw herself again.

Great to see James in the list but I was hoping for Courtney instead of the plain vanilla Amanda. I don't know any of the others though.

Where is sucks and what is it?

Survivor Sucks is a message board. If you google it you'll get a link. You have to be very THICK-SKIN though. The posters will tear you apart big time. It's a very mean spirited board.

In the wake of the flap she caused by negatively spinning the circumstances of her back-home job situation during Sunday's Survivor: China reunion show, Denise Martin has issued a mea culpa, saying, "I would like to apologize to Mark Burnett, Jeff Probst, CBS, [school superintendent] Nancy Lane, the Town of Douglas [Mass.] and my friends and family. It was not my intention to mislead anyone. I take full responsibility for my actions and hope that you can find it in your hearts to forgive me."

As for the $50,000 in feel-better funds she was surprised with by host man Jeff Probst, Martin says, "I do not feel comfortable about accepting [it]. I would instead ask that it be donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation." A CBS rep confirms that the money will indeed be earmarked for the charity.

OK my affiliate aired the finale last night!

I was still rooting for Amanda and Courtney. I still hate Todd and was rooting against him. Not jumping on that wagon EVER. Jeff Probst is uber annoying.

I LOVED Cirie. I don't know if I would have brought her back though. And Yau-Man? Aka the stupidest move EVER in Survivor history?

I will be rooting for all the favs except James, Yau-Man, and Fairplay. It's going to be a great season!

I am excited to see Amanda get a second chance...now that she KNOWS she needs to trust her instincts and not listen to anyone.
