Sharongate, bitches!

What does this mean for soaps like Y&R and B&B? Both of those soaps have their EP and HW as the same person.

Every writer who is employed is a member of the WGA.

The only ones who aren't are freelance writers.

They can't get credited as writers iif they aren't in it.

He was quoted in the tidbit from SOD that Angie posted talking about the strike as if he is a member.

Oh, I apologize. I did not know that!

Haha. No Prob.

One of the WGA's main purposes is dealing with credits. So if people want to be credited on any of the soaps (or any TV show) as a writer, they have to be a member.

You will not believe the dirt I just heard regarding the strike:

Apparently, ABC Daytime is secretly rounding up as many non-WGA member writers who work at ABCD as possible (producers, directors, even actors) as scabs in case the writers strike goes past early-mid January, which is to the point where all ABCD soaps (with the exception of GH, which is only written up to Christmastime) scripts have caught up. How? Well, OLTL's writers have been having weekend cram sessions, where writers interact via telephone and write scripts collectively at home.

Again, as with all my scoop, this is JUST A RUMOR!!!

^ I wouldn't be surprised. Sounds like a sly move Frons would make.

From the Hollywood Reporter:
In daytime, the broadcast networks' soaps are set with enough scripts to keep fresh episodes on the air for the next few months. NBC's "Days of Our Lives" and the CBS dramas "The Young and the Restless," "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "As the World Turns" have enough scripts to take them through at least January, while CBS' "Guiding Light" could be OK for another month beyond that.

ABC's daytime dramas -- "One Life to Live," "General Hospital" and "All My Children" -- also are set through the beginning of the year.

"ABC's daytime dramas are written well into the new year, and we will continue to produce original programming with no repeats and without interruption," an ABC Daytime spokesperson said.

I'm mainly worried about DAYS. We know ABC is gonna do what it can for its soaps, and I think it's pretty safe to say the same for CBS, but we also know NBC's probably secretly thrilled about the potential effects this strike could have on DAYS. :( <_<

Well, I hope it's worth it for them.

I'm not too worried about this particular strike's effects. But if the producers and actors go on strike too, then I'll be concerned. There's only so much to go around before things aren't profitable to make, y'know?

Huh. I wonder if studios are being stingy because they know they'll have to avert a strike with others soon, too. If that's the case this could go on for awhile.

Almost sounds like it could be GOOD for daytime! If primetime dries up fast, the nets could advertise that daytime still has fresh scripts.

Kind of an ant/grasshopper situation isn't it?

It's not good for scripted TV period, but it's particularly bad for soaps.

This was pointed out elsewhere but there are many rewrites done while filming so they are going to either have to go right off of the scripts that are done or someone else will have to re-write.

Well, what daytime is doing now isn't working. Until it bombs, I am open to new writers giving things a whirl.
