Y'know, there's an art to making things real and meaningful without swearing or nudity.

Greeks had plays about violence without depicting violence on stage. Movies in the 30s, 40s and 50s depicted sex and romance with strict limits on showing sexual contact (Hays Code, right?). And television hasn't really used swearing or nudity until pretty recently. Yet things endure, things resonate, and undeniable classics were created that audiences still appreciate.

If you need to flash your ass and swear to feel like you're truly acting- like that's the only way you can represent reality- then you're not really an actor, imho, you're a prop. And good luck to him with that.

AMEN, px!!

TO EVERYTHING you said.

I'm glad SOMEONE finally said it.

I'm just sick of living in this world where gratuitous nudity and violence are glorified.

Oh, don't be such a prude, JSF!

Well, after living as a prude and as ahem, the exact opposite, I can tell you that prude is definitely the more desirable option. I'm sick of being a SLAVE to my sexuality -- yes, I said it! -- by seeing soaps and movies as "jackoff fodder." And that's all Marcus perpetuates with his outrageous rhetoric. He perpetuates obscenity, depravity and sexual addiction by promoting this sick message of extreme nudity and violence.

Drugs, incest and death is the theme constantly in daytime and yet you can't really cross the line and express it in it's true form."
For now he's interested in working on shows that he feels accurately portray life. As he stated, "I'm probably much more geared towards HBO or Showtime where they can say a curse word and they can do a nude sex scene and it looks very realistic."

I completely agree with that. That's one of the main reasons why I hate most US shows, they never curse or show real nudity. That's why I love HBO shows.

But why is real nudity NEEDED?! I swear it's gratuitous. And it cheapens the experience. I don't want to watch a porno, or stroke some actor's ego while watching what SHOULD be art. I want good dialogue and a strong story. Not Michael Douglas giving graphic anal to a girl.

That's exactly what I mean. Why do you say porno? Porn and nudity is not the same thing. I think it's silly when they have sex scenes on soaps and after the woman always have the blanket over her whole body while the man can walk around shirtless. and it's even more stupid that they never curse, or if they do, it's something like Damn, Crap!

Seriously, he's been in soaps for all of what, 5 minutes? And all of a sudden he's the Messiah of all things soaps? GMAFB.

So you have to be on a soap to know things about it? How long have you been on a soap?

Um, drop the attitude, please. If you're gonna try and start an argument with me, at least try to make it over something that's not completely stupid.

You're the one with the attitude. I was just asking how long you have been on a soap.

From his "Playgirl" interview.

This made me like him just a tad bit more.

BOYKIN: You have a lot of gay fans and admirers. In fact, you were recently on the cover of a French gay magazine. How does that feel?

PATRICK: When I was younger I was a homophobe. Especially due to the things I was told by my parents about how gay people possibly want to molest you. I was told all that kind of crap. As I got older and met my gay friends, and my agent is gay …and I found that I love them as people. Now I’m such a protector of gay people because they’re the most creative, they’re the best cooks, they’re the best fashion people, they’re the best entertainers…one political guy who was a gay activist…said one thing, don’t ever come after gay people about being violent. We’re the most peaceful people on the planet, and he was right.

BOYKIN: Aren’t you just creating a stereotype of gay people, even though you think of it as positive?

PATRICK: Stereotypes exist for a reason. And of course not everyone is the same and you’re gonna have your flawed gay dude.

I’m 100 percent straight addicted to pussy, but when someone gives me a compliment and asks are you gay, I take that as a compliment because that means I look good and dress well….if I don’t focus on what a gay person is doing in the bedroom, which is their own personal business…a lot of the great entertainers like George Michael…when he finally came out of the closet…all of the sudden no one wants to buy his records anymore, which is ridiculous…

God created gay people for a reason…People don’t just go through all the pain and persecution to be gay because they think it’s a fun idea…I think that straight people once they meet a gay person and they fall in love with a gay person’s spirit then they realize how ignorant and stupid they were….Because I felt stupid…once I found that I loved my gay friends so much.

I know that Marcus means well with his whole pro-gay speech, but why can't we just be like anyone else? Not defined by our sexuality... just US. Not ALL gay people are friendly, not ALL gay people are awesome dressers. He makes us sound like this jolly grand little population of homos rather than actual human beings with distinct personalities, beliefs and styles all our own.

What's up with the generalization? Surprisingly, even though it's a positive one, I'm still annoyed by it, LoL. Or maybe it's just his "I know it all" attitude that puts me off. I appreciate his thoughts, but I don't need him to fight my battles as a gay man. It sounds more to me like he's just trying to win over gay fans by going to bat for them than actually caring about our issues.

His "as long as I don't think about what they're doing in bed..." (or someting to that effect) comment also pisses me off. It was as if he was basically saying, "Despite the fact that they're depraved sexual creatures, I really like their fashion sense!"

Thanks, Marcus!

I say porno because we don't need to see actual genitalia or asses for it to be realistic. I agree, I get frustrated when we see them under the covers. NO ONE fucks under the covers. Maybe the Amish or something. Not "real" people. Solution? There are clever ways for the man to hold the woman so that she looks nude but his arm (from a side view) is covering the bra strap. Just shoot waist up and BAM! Nudity effect, without the trashy, gratuitous nudity that again, is ONLY there to turn on the viewer, make them a voyeur and stroke the actor's ego.

Sorry, I have to break in here for just a moment. Did anyone see OLTL today? Hot Toddy was licking Blair's legs. Now, that was sexy. Ok, back to your porn arguments. :)

Here's what I think he meant to say:

When I was younger I was a homophobe because my parents told me that the gays are evil. But then my agent told me that if I was going to successfully flash my ass for cash, as is my lifelong dream, I had to go after the gay demographic, because there are only so many straight women willing to pay to see it.

Once I realized how much money I could make I realized that gay people aren't scary. They're all non-violent and fashionable and pleasant with beautiful spirits and lots of disposable income. But one day I'd like to transition such that I'm not so reliant on this particular demographic for income, so I just want to clarify that I'm addicted to pussy and, in fact, I'm fucking a woman as we speak because I just can't get enough. I don't want to be confused with a gay and not make money anymore. Look at George Michael- he came out and now he makes no money. So: pussy, I love it.

Oh, I need a clip of that shit!

(And yes, guys, that's different than showing them completely naked straddling each other; it gets the message across.)

But that's a little shocking too. I mean, Blair's married in real life. Just what would her husband think of that? Was he REALLY licking them? To me that goes too far. Again, it's a documentary at that stage because it's no longer acting.

So Marcus is a weirdo. I think he's a well meaning weirdo and I have to say he did make a few salient points. American soaps have lost touch with reality and have the tendency to filtered the SLs down so badly that they lose all meaning and interest.

Example:
DAYS took a SL of International human trafficking, white slavery and forced prostitution in Las Vegas and turned it into "Touch my Thighs".
