Eric's 'Bold' move lands him in haute water

Eric returns to the runway today on "The Bold and the Beautiful" with a new collection of Forrester gowns - and a new woman by his side.

"He's got his exciting new line and his new muse," says John McCook, who has played the Forrester patriarch for 20 years. "He makes that a big point. The whole week leading up to it, his kids and his wife make it a big deal, too: 'Look, we know you're making a choice about your life here, but don't do it front of everybody. It will just pull focus away from the new line and Forrester Creations.'"

Eric doesn't care. He dumped his wife, Stephanie, and is in love with the much younger Donna - and he wants everyone to know it.

"Eric says, 'Well, of course I'm not going to pull focus from my line.' But everybody's pushing him not to do things, so he finally says, 'I'm going to do what I want.' He chooses to announce the new woman in his life; the person who has inspired him. And he chooses to do it at the end of the runway. But then things change."

In more ways than one.

"It doesn't turn out the way Eric expects it to, and it happens right in front of everybody," says McCook.

"Eric had dressed Donna in the show-stopper, a beautiful white dress. But she gets waylaid. It's not her at the end of the runway."

It's Stephanie!

"The twist comes at the end of the show, but it evolves into a pretty hairy story line after that for the next month," says McCook. "It's a huge page-turner for all the characters on the show. It's not just another fashion show."

Indeed, on Tuesday, a gun emerges from behind the curtain after the Fashion Show. A shot rings out - %A0and a major character goes down.

"The fallout is huge," say McCook. "Eric finally steps up to the plate and asserts himself and then this happens. I'm worried my character will never learn anything. Eric is offended by Stephanie and her actions over and over again, but then he never changes. So this time, I thought it was really important to see Eric make the choice to turn his back on her forever. We'll see if that lasts."

It may not if Stephanie is the one who is shot.

"They've narrowed that character down to such a point that there are hardly any redeeming qualities to her anymore," says McCook. "She's just unbearable. And that makes Eric an idiot."

But does it make him a murderer?
