I can see them using this to gauge fan attachment to the show in only one way, really. If they have to cut costs and want to ditch certain expensive actors to do it, they need a test case to see if the show's ratings would be stable or not after someone goes. If they aren't, it might be better to cut the whole show instead of eliminating costly actors. As far as Drake staying quiet- don't buy it. I don't personally like him, but I can't imagine any actor going to a fan event and not being moved to throw out a hint (a wink, a "wait and see" comment). It's one thing to lie through a magazine. It's another to look people in the eye. I still think he could come back- It's Days, after all- but I'm not believing that there's been some kind of plan in place, especially since the show hasn't seemed well thought out or planned in a long, long time. Why would they start thinking ahead now? |

If NBC/DOOL are controlling what Drake is saying and this is all some big conspiracy then what possible reason would they have for having Drake be critical of NBC's support for DOOL, why would he discourage fans from believing the rumors and why would he be telling his fans that Deidre worries she could be in trouble too? |

They actually fired Drake and gave him a kids death. It didn't take the ratings long to drop back to 1.9 and I hope they continue to suck. The mags should stop putting John's returning yadda, yadda when they know he's fired and not coming back. Thank you for the much needed and honest report. |

I totally agree Mary. I don't think Drake would say that Deidre was worried if she wasn't. Another thing I think about is that the Associate Producer who retired talked about things were different. And that she just looked at things and said now was the time. She had been working on there for over 20 years and said that the Brady's were named after her. Backstage at Days these days must be a little unsettling. |

The ratings spiked due to fans wanting to see the demise of John Black and then went back to their new normal because EJami won't hold a candle with the majority of fans. I think we may see a ghost scene or a dream scene and that will be the end of John Black on DOOL. |

I think we're going to get some fbs of J/M or John and Sami(GAG) to keep the viewers who don't believe John's dead hanging on until Dec. They may have him tape 2 or 3 ghost scenes for after his contract expires to bring back a few viewers who want to see John no matter what. It's a total insult the way Corday is treating Drake and the fans. |

I just don't get why the killed him off 2 months before his contract even expired? Why not utilize him through the Holidays and then have him die during Feb sweeps? |

Or even November sweeps! They're idiots. The tiny ratings 'bounce' they got happened on a random week in October. Now for sweeps, they're back to 1.9's. They can't even kill off a character correctly, lol. |

Their biggest blunder was not keeping Marlena on-screen. The ratings actually kept rising after the funeral as she dealt with the grief, delivered Sami's twins and threatened Elvis. She was on 8 or 9 episodes in a row and the dailies showed a consistent upward trend throughout. They started tanking again the moment she disappeared. Say what you like about Marlena but she's probably the only character on DAYS who can single-handedly deliver viewers. |

God, he needs to come back. The end of January will do (airing January 30th will be a great b-day gift for this J&M fan)... But he needs to come back.
Well said Ponz, obviously I agree with you. I've said that for years. And Deidre was giving some of the best performances of her career. Yes, I say that because as awesome as DJ's and Sam's death were, and the Pier scene and so many others, they don't compare to that week or heck, Oct 31st (when Marlena talked about revenge - man, the whole thing from start to finish was amazing). Say what you want about Marlena or Deidre, but she is ratings for Days. Call it a coincidence or not, but everytime she's been even just slightly on the frontburner, the ratings have gone up. The ratings started sucking in 2004 the second she wasen't frontburner AFTER having gone up once she started being on consistantly when Marlena was revealed as the killer. |

Agree 100%. Additionally, they are saying Marlena will have a "big story" come December. The correct way to get a ratings bump from anyone's "big story" is to show the character beforehand and slowly build up to whatever story he/she has coming. Keeping Marlena off screen for the month of November has been a mistake in this regard as well. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Dee and Thaoo off partly because of their trip to Austrailia? I could've sworn I read somewhere that was the case. I agree that Marlena should've been on more but, in a way, she has, especially if she is the lady in black. If she is. I think the show wanted to play up the mystery angle since they already set her up on desiring revenge. If they had her onscreen, I think people would've figured it out right away. |

Regarding Australia, that is one reason they are not on this month. However, if you were planning a promotional tour for one of your show's biggest stars (if not THE biggest star of your show), would you plan it so that this actress would not be on during sweeps month?? The show planned the trip for October and they knew very well what the implications would be. Additionally, they could have had Deidre work more beforehand or tape certain episodes early so that she could still be featured during sweeps despite the trip, but apparently they chose not to do this. I have no idea whether Marlena is 'the lady in black' or not, but I believe the point is to get Deidre Hall onscreen. If it is her and she is in disguise like that, I can't see how it would help the ratings. If Deidre Hall had played the lady in white in the '90's and moaned under a tablecloth, would that have mattered? Deidre's talents do bring in viewers, but viewers would have to see Deidre onscreen for that to happen. |

You all are forgetting that Days doesn't really do anything big for sweeps, at least not in the past few years - a mystery in itself. |

LOL, I just wrote that in the Days documentary thread. Agreed. They seem completely ignorant of the fact that November is a sweeps month. |

ICAM. This is the same show that hired a man and pre-taped 2 months of voice-overs so that Sami wouldn't be "off-screen" during Ali's pregnancy. If they can manage that, they can certainly organise a one week trip in a way that ensures Deidre doesn't lose screentime. And if not, they shouldn't have sent her on the trip. Improving your ratings during a critical Sweeps month is surely more important than promoting the show in a foreign country. |

Excellent point about Ali. Other examples also come to mind where in the past the show has 'written in' or otherwise dealt with the absence of various actors due to different situations. Sheffer seems to use the "just don't mention them" approach, which has led to the proliferation of "Where's Marlena?" threads and discussions on various boards, including this one. It seems that most viewers expect a lead character to be accounted for in the writing, even if he/she is not on screen. Obviously the viewers care far more about the characters than the writers do at this point. |

If I'm not mistaken, Days is on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off shooting schedule, at least they were at the time. So the trip to Aussie would not have affected Dee's taping. |
