Read the B&B part. They actually take a direct shot at SON. <_<

Suds Report

The Suds Report: November 19, 2007
2007-11-05
By Nelson Branco

IN: Kristina Wagner and Eden Riegel! OUT: Cady McClain and Lynn Marie Latham! Stephanie is shot on ‘B&B’! Hunter Tylo speaks

Cady McClain (Rosanna, ‘ATWT’) may be whistlin' dixie again thanks to her second failed comeback this year

ON THE NEWSSTANDS: Check out People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue on sale now with Matt Damon as the chosen one. Congratulations go out to GH’s Jason Thompson (Patrick), Desperate Housewives' Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey, OLTL) and Criminal Minds’ Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm, Y&R) for making the cut. Coming soon: find out who TVGuide.ca picked as 2007’s sexiest man alive on soaps — and no, it’s not me.

BIG STORY: THE PICKET LINE REPORT

Y&R/Days writers return to work; Y&R’s Latham fired?

So much for their Writer’s Guild Award nominations next year! A handful of Y&R writers have opted to terminate their WGA memberships and return to work (please, don’t do us any favours!). Also, a Days writer is in the process of doing the same. Will this insanity be over, puh-lease? Meanwhile, Y&R states that headwriter and executive producer Lynn Marie Latham is not currently writing the soap because of the writers’ strike, and she hasn’t been fired, as sources are reporting. Either way, it looks like Y&R’s viewers will come out the winners in all of this.

SUDS FLASH — FRONS’ POWER INCREASES
More behind-the-scenes upheaval: SoapNet general manager Deborah Blackwell is leaving the cable network; ABC daytime president Brian Frons will take over the reins, making him even more powerful in the industry. Does this man ever sleep?

All My Children (A-Channel/ABC) — One more gay on TV: hurray!
Binks is back! Our favourite lesbian returns to Pine Valley on Dec. 26 and 27 to lend support to her family during the holidays, when Emmy winner Eden Riegel reprises her insanely popular role as Bianca. On Wednesday, the Chandlers and Martins try not to kill each other when they celebrate Thanksgiving at The Comeback. Also that same day, Celine Dion performs on New Beginnings and chats up a storm with new BFF Erica Kane about frozen embryos and stuff. Good times.

As the World Turns (Global/CBS) — Emmy winner gets the axe! OLTL, are you listening?
That was fast — Cady McClain (Rosanna) is the new Genie Francis (ex-Laura, GH). The two-time Emmy winner has been “let go,” according to our sources, for the second time this year. McClain will leave when Rosanna falls back into a coma this February. Since Dixie was killed off last Christmas, it’s unlikely that AMC would re-hire the fan favourite, but one source says ABC is already thinking about how to rewrite history and rectify former headwriter Megan McTavish’s mistake. So, stay tuned. Me? I think OLTL should recast Tina Roberts with the deliciously malicious McClain, who would be perfect in the role — and she’d be reunited with former co-star and boyfriend Hunt Block (Ramsey, OLTL; ex-Craig, ATWT). Onscreen, don’t miss this week’s episodes when Katie gets her revenge on Brad for his betrayal, and Luke declares his love for Noah.

The Bold and the Beautiful (CTV/CBS) — Stephanie shot! Tylo opens up to Larry King!
Don’t believe those annoying Internet rumours (yes, we mean you soapoperanetwork.com) that state that B&B has hired GH’s Stuart Damon (Alan) as Stephanie’s doctor. When TVGuide.ca called B&B, the spokesperson laughed, saying, “not true at all.” What is true is that our evil but beloved Stephanie is shot at the end of Eric Forrester’s comeback fashion extravaganza. Look for Lt. Baker and his son Charlie to investigate the suspects, which not too surprisingly include the general populous.

Grieving Hunter Tylo appeared on Larry King Live to discuss the accidental death of her son, Mikey. On learning the news, she recounted: “My oldest son Chris called and said, 'Mom, are you sitting down?' And, you know, you don't want to hear that. I said, 'Oh quiet, what do you want?' He said, 'Mom, I'm not kidding, are you sitting down?' And there's just this hot rush of blood that just envelops your whole face and your chest, and you just begin to know that there's something terribly wrong. And he said, 'It's about Mike.' And I don't know if it was just my body language or just what was happening, and even though I was trying to cover because my two daughters were sitting at the table where this phone call came, my daughter, who is 11 years old now, she immediately said, 'Is Mike dead?' I looked at her and I walked further away from the table. The next thing my son said was, 'I found Mike in the pool. He's dead.' And it was the worst thing I have ever heard in my life. I thought the worst thing in life was having a sick child and then having a child that might be blind. But there's really nothing more painful than losing a child.”

Coronation Street (CBC) – Bombs away!
When American soaps test my patience and intelligence, I can always count on Corrie Street for a fantastic soap fix. This week, Tracy gives into David, while Steve feels betrayed; Tyrone inherits a mysterious metal detector; Jamie learns that Sonny is Sean’s mysterious fella; and Tracey is saved by a bomb when an emergency hits the street!

Days of our Lives (Global/NBC) — Here we go again: Is Drake back this January?
Both Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly are reporting there’s serious buzz that Drake Hogestyn (ex-John) will return this January as possibly a new character named Russell (which TVGuide.ca reported weeks ago). “Not true,” repeats a spokesperson. I do have to say that when I spoke to Deidre Hall (Marlena) recently, she acted weird when I talked about Hogestyn’s firing … and then chose her words very carefully after a few awkward pauses. On the tube this week: on Friday, Marlena makes a deal with Stefano; Sami finds out Will left town; Stephanie is caught by Kayla with a pregnancy testing kit; and Philip tells Belle not to marry Shawn!

Eastenders (BBC Canada) — Dancing with the Brits
It’s the poor man’s Corrie Street, but the soap is firing on all cylinders this week: Walford’s singles get their salsa on; Danny finds a way to get Johnny’s attention; Alfie confronts Johnny about Jake and Danny’s fate; while Little Johnny confronts them about coming clean about their relationship.

Look who's back: the original Felicia (Kristina Wagner) returns for a family tragedy on ‘GH’
General Hospital (CTV/ABC) — Kristina Wagner to return!
Looks like the one good thing to come out of Georgie’s rumoured death is that GH plans to bring back the popular and underrated Kristina Wagner as Felicia. Will Frisco return to bury his daughter? Unlikely, since Jack Wagner (Nick) is too busy avoiding an attempted murder charge on B&B! Also returning is Denise Alexander (Lesley) on Nov. 21.

Christmas gift alert: GH: Night Shift Season 1 comes to DVD on Feb. 12, 2008, with bonus material that includes a behind-the-scenes look at Port Charles in the featurette “On the Set at Night Shift.” The DVD will not be available in Canada, however fans can order the series through amazon.com.

Guiding Light (Global/CBS) — Edmund murdered? Is Jeffrey really Prince Richard?
Buzz on the GL set is that the soap plans to kill Edmund off in a huge murder mystery once David Andrew Macdonald’s four-week stint is over. Also, Kim Zimmer (Reva) tells Soap Opera Weekly this week that she likes to think — in her mind — that Jeffrey is really Prince Richard! Now that’d be a shocking twist, huh? According to the Emmy winner, when she suggested the plot twist to the writers, “they looked at my like I had three heads.” Hey, she was only cloned once! Regardless, Zimmer relays that she adores the Reva/Jeffrey romance, as I do. In casting news: three-time Super Bowl champ and ESPN analyst Mark Schlereth guest stars on the sudser as Roc Hoover on Nov. 19 and 20.

One Life to Live (A-Channel/ABC) — Addie returns home! NuMichael cast!
In: Newcomer Chris Stack will replace Nathanial Marston as Dr. Michael McBain. Stack debuts on Dec. 3; Marston's last airdate is Nov. 29. Out: Christina Chambers (Marty) will officially leave OLTL during the first week of December. The actress has already landed a role on Cane, as a potential love interest for Jimmy Smitts. The amazing Tonja Walker (Alex) ends her visit on Nov. 26.

Super-scribe Ron Carlivati keeps delivering: TV Guide’s Michael Logan is reporting that after Dorian spies Clint and Nora sharing their first kiss, she jumps in the sack with David as revenge — assuming Clint and Nora have been embroiled in an affair behind her back. Meanwhile, Nigel kidnaps Alex to keep her from spilling the beans regarding David’s parentage. Also, Addie (Pamela Payton-Wright) returns to the Cramer household apparently saner than the rest of her family!

Passions (DirecTV/SuperChannel) – Pilar’s secret exposed!
Pilar a killer? Yep. This week we learn that the former maid killed her best friend, Juanita’s husband, after he raped her (surprise, surprise) when she overheard him making a drug deal. Eva Tamargo’s (Pilar) real-life daughter Gabriela Lemus, 16, plays a young Pilar during the flashbacks that air this week.

The Young and the Restless (Global/CBS) — Stork report!
Congratulations are in order for Amelia Heinle (Victoria) and Thad Luckinbill (JT), who welcomed their first child, Thaddeus Rowe Luckinbill, on Nov. 2. The tyke weighed in at 8 pounds and measured 21 inches. Onscreen this week: Phyllis is finally released from jail permanently, but Victoria’s life-and-death predicament ruins a happy reconciliation between the former inmate and Nicholas.

'B&B' executive producer and headwriter Bradley Bell is giving 'OLTL' scribe Ron Carlivati a run for his money

MASTER CLASS: THE BEST OF THE BEST

B&B’s Bradley Bell and Jennifer Gaeris

Hallelujah! After a year of contrived plot twists, character assassinations, predictable and non-sensical storylines, and backstage turmoil, B&B is on fire again and has returned to its former glory. Welcome back, I missed you freaks! OLTL’s Ron Carlivati should watch his back, because headwriter Bradley Bell has soap supremacy within his grasp. Bell infused his masterpiece with weight, resonance, consequences, high stakes, psychology, and beautifully written dialogue that has me glued to the screen once again. Even the actors look rejuvenated thanks to this glorious material.

B&B’s comeback began when the town learned of Stephanie’s involvement in Brooke’s rape, which has been spectacular and beyond satisfying. Also, the return of the Logan family, finally fiercely cast for once, is back on the forefront. Is there a sexier and chicer family on daytime? The divine Jennifer Gaeris (Donna) has simply been a revelation this year — she reminds me of a sassy Veronica Lake with a relentless and passionate sense of justice. In fact, in my eyes, the skill-full Gaeris has evolved into an A-list soap star, who is acting her little heart out opposite acting icon Susan Flannery (Stephanie) and stealing scenes from the four-time Emmy winner in the process.

Bell is the undisputed recast master in daytime, and once again, along with the magnificent Heather Tom (Katie), he’s given us one memorable vixen in Gaeris. Moreover, the poetic and magical Patrick Duffy (Stephen) has returned, while the seriously talented and sexy William DeVry (Storm) finally got his chance to shine thanks to some revisionist childhood exposition.

And last but not least: the most romantic and heroic man in soaps, Nick Marone, has returned to his senses. I chuckled when Nick (the soulful wonder that is Jack Wagner) refused to believe Stephanie’s involvement in Brooke’s attack because “the dressmaker” hadn’t done anything about it — yet again. When Brooke confirmed the story, Nick vowed to kill Stephanie and never allow La Forrester hurt Brooke again. Translation: Nick’s the only man who loves Brooke, and I don’t for one moment believe that Ridge and Brooke love each other. At all. And the flames continue ignite: this week, Stephanie’s shot and not since Dallas’ JR was gunned down have I been this excited to witness the fallout. Bring it on, B&B!

SOAP MALFUNCTION: RANT OF THE WEEK
The most-ruined character of the year has been, hands-down, ATWT’s Carly Snyder. Poor Maura West — she wins an Emmy Award and this is what they saddle one of the most talented actresses on soaps with? Carly would never lie to the “love of her life,” Jack, that’s she’s dying just to steal him away from his wife, Katie. Would you ever do that to the person you loved? Exactly. Carjack is dead to me. It’s Katie and Brad all the way!

Suds Report

It was a tacky comment/put down considering he has the backing of TVG. But he's so enamored with B&B's Brad Bell and terrible actress Jennifer Gareis (!). She's just a babe but she can't act at all. And if all the shooting does is redeem rapist Stephanie, then it's the biggest cop out and lamest Sweeps stunt ever!
