I don't read spoilers or day aheads anymore so I was really shocked at Friday's episode. I really enjoyed it! I loved all the little nod to Shelle's history. It was a nice, simple Thanksgiving/Family episode. Brava, DAYS. Hopefully, a lot of people were home and watched. Haha. |

I agree. I said I loved the show just from Prevuze so I will not repeat myself. I just want to add the production values and the look of the show is just so heads above anything we had to endure for last few years when all KC friends were named the EP´s and HW´s just because they were...well, his friends. And I really believe this is the right feel the show should have. I mean, Sheffer´s early attempt to be really realistic soap ended being very boring. And Reilly´s attempt to be even more campy and over the top ended wrong too. This looks like a nice comproise, just the way Ed Scott promissed when he began. Btw. did anyone else pay attention to the short speach Stephanie had to Cordy about like she has to stay herself no matter what Ford did? I think it was very forshadowing and she WAS raped but not by Ford, but someone unknown well before she returned to Salem and that is the reason for her odd behavior and bedhopping for last few months. Anyway, after John murder/funeral scene we´ve got another prove the Sheffer/Scott duo could be the turning point this show so desperately need. Maybe there is still a hope for this show afterall. |

Wow, Stefano and Marlena scenes gave me chills. I loved how Deidre played it completely on the edge but yet fully in control. I loved the look of disgusting when Stefano was coming closer to her (and her backing away). I loved Joe's way of playing Stefano so completely enamoured with Marlena, but yet, the moment she says she hates him, he hates her back. That's Stefano and Marlena. She hates him and he hates her too, but he loves her more. He hates that he can't have her. |

You said it, Linn. The fallout scenes and ripple effects of John's death really make it worth it. I just hope Drake comes back soon. |

Okay. I finally have time to gush over Friday's episode. It was simply perfect. Usually, these big event episodes, there are several things that I would have done differently had I been in charge, but today is different. I would have changed absolutely nothing about today's episode. It was awesome, and perfect to the word. The writing, the dialogue, the acting, everything was superb. :D Any day I get to see some Roberts sibling interaction, especially when Billie is involved, I am happy. Julie Pinson has chemistry with all of her on-screen brothers. I'm so glad Billie came to comfort Philip rather than attending the wedding. Billie is a family person, and she would have rather been with her brother rather than at the wedding. Philip's coldness towards his sister came off as realistic. He is pissed, and Philip is the type of person that would take it out on those that are close to him, and trying to help. I loved Billie's line that Philip is becoming more like Victor everyday. It's so true, and I am so happy. And Billie's reaction to Philip calling her lonely, and how she went on and on about how she doesn't need anyone to make herself feel good, AWESOME delivery, Ms. Pinson! Belle's dress reminded me a lot of Sami's Las Vegas wedding dress. It was very pretty. And Sami and Chelsea looked great in their dresses as well. It was a really simple, yet beautiful wedding scheme. At first, I had a problem with it taking place at Bo and Hope's, but the set looked fantastic, and I didn't mind in the end. I am so in love with the Shawn/Belle/Philip triangle. I loved Philip's phone calls to Belle before the wedding began. The look in Belle's eyes when he first called and she immediately hung up the phone. Martha Madison nailed it! You could tell Belle wanted nothing to do with Philip, but in an instant, she was torn once again, when he called a second time, and this time, she had to talk to him. She had to hear what he had to say despite the fact that she was about to marry another man. Philip still has a piece of her, and she can't deny that to herself, no matter how many times she tells other people. So when he called, and she pretended that it was Mimi, it showed Belle's desire to speak to Philip, so much that she would lie to the others, and get privacy. And while I don't think Hope should be keeping this secret from Shawn, I am loving the Belle/Hope scenes that we are getting where Hope questions her trust in Belle. For too long, these two have been too lovey dovey towards each other. It wasn't a believable mother/daughter-in-law relationship. I love that Hope sees Belle's flaws, and now realizes that Belle isn't the little miss perfect angel she always thought she was. Hope is being such a bitch to Belle, and I love it! The forget-me-nots were a wonderful homeage paid to John and Zack's memories. And I loved the scene with Shawn and Chelsea. They really need to start interacting more. While I could never see Jason Cook and Rachel Melvin as brother and sister, Brandon Beemer has sibling chemistry with Rachel, and I want to see more of it. I'm not sayin that they have to have a loving brother and sister connection because I'm sure Shawn will always blame Chelsea for killing Zach, but I do want them to interact more. I thought that the watch from "Victor" was a brilliant idea. While I was watching this at first, I was thinking to myself, it's nice to see Victor wanting to reach out to his grandson like this. It was really believable that Victor would do it, which makes Philip a freaking genius for thinking of the idea. And Belle's face when she spotted Shawn wearing the watch, and the memories that flooded her mind upon seeing it, wonderful soap drama! I thought that the actual ceremony was nicely done. The one and only thing I would have done differently during the march, I would have had Chelsea and Claire come out first, and then Sami. That just seemed out of order in my opinion. It was nice seeing Marlena walk Belle down the aisle. And if you remember, from the beginning of the episode, before Roman left for the hospital, Doug asked if he was still walking Belle down the aisle. I don't think I would have liked to see Roman walking Belle down the aisle. Yes, I know for a couple of months, they thought that Roman was Belle's father, but I'm glad they had Marlena walk her daughter down the aisle. That's how it should have been. The vows were touching, and Belle's pausing and then continuing to go through with the wedding was very suspenseful. I couldn't help but keep a smile the entire time Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" played during Doug's speech at the reception. That is Shawn and Belle's song, and I'm glad they didn't give them a new song, like they did Lucas and Sami in May. Chelsea catching the bouquet was nice, and the CHICK kiss was very cute. I am surprised that we haven't had much of Nick lately. It does show that Hogan has some sort of sense of balance. This is his creation, and for a while, Nick was in every storyline, but Hogan has done the right thing and slowed down with the Nick propping, and that is a good thing. While Nick is one of the best new characters to ever come onto DAYS in years, too much of him was beginning to hurt the character in my eyes. I thought it was the perfect ending to the show to have Hope listen to Philip's voicemail on Belle's phone. I loved that the music was still playing in the background. The way that it went from Hope in her bedroom, then to Shawn and Belle dancing at the pub, to Philip looking in from outside, and then back to Hope as she finished listening. Perfect direction. Thank you so much, Kathryn Foster! And I'm so glad that the the rumor going around that Lucas would name the baby Alice Caroline Horton--Allie for short--turned out to be the real deal. I think the name is great, and it really adds drama to the Lucas and Sami dynamic. You can tell that Lucas is preparing himself to raise this little girl as a single father, and you can see that Sami sees this and is becoming threatened. I'm starting to see some of the old Lucas and Sami coming out during all of this, and it's a good thing. They have conflict with each other once again, and that is what has been needed with these two since Hogan took over writing the couple, and ultimately ruined them in my eyes. The bickering, the trying to one-up the other, the doing tihngs behind the other's back, and the other getting upset because of it, all the while still loving each other while this is all going down, that is LUMI. Maybe this is Dena Higley's influence, which I'm sure that it is since she got LUMI better than any other head writer. If it is, then welcome back Dena! Make me love this couple like I used to. It probably won't be hard to do since I'm slowly losing my EJAMI interest, and the only thing keeping me a fan of EJ and Sami as a couple is James Scott and Alison Sweeney's chemistry. Best part of today's show? It defintely goes to Stefano and Marlena's scenes at the mansion. I loved how they had the opera music playing while the camera followed Marlena's feet as she entered the mansion, and then the camera switched to Marlena's viewpoint as she walked into the morning room to find Stefano tending to Johnny D (my little nickname for the future mob boss lol). Hopefully, these scenes were an indication of things to come. These two should have been what this feud storyline was all about rather than EJ and Sami. Deidre Hall and Joseph Mascolo could have carried this entire storyline solely on them, and I believe it would have been a hit, just because of the history that the two have together, and with the audience. The audience didn't see Colleen and Santo, so they didn't have an attachment towards those characters like they would have with Stefano and Marlena. Deidre delivered her lines brilliantly. You could hear the coldness in Marlena's voice as she talked to Stefano. The look in her eyes, it indicated hatred, and wishing death upon him. It was amazing. And we got Stefano's vulnerable side today when Marlena reached out her hand to him as to say that she would be his if he ended the feud. There is one person that can make Stefano buckle, and that is Marlena. It's always been Marlena, and the writers have finally remembered that. Thank God! |

Co-sign everything you said, Drew! Even though I'm not particularly a fan of the Shawn/Belle/Philip triangle, it has provided some great meaty drama. The Lumi angst was played well, too. It was the first time I felt something for them in ages. |

I will post a more detailed post later, but for right now all I can say is WOW! I absolutely loved every minute of Friday's episode as I had no idea Marlena was going to go confront Stefano the way she did. Deidre and Joe shine together and if Friday's show is any indication of where this new SL is headed I am all for it! DAYS is heating up and next week sounds stellar.... |

Superb. There are no other words to describe it. I missed Bo's presence but that could not be helped and the logical way they wrote him out was appreciated. Caroline, Shawn Sr, and Roman (who left early in the episode) missing in action was actually a smart move because it took the focus off of Bo's absence and I think that was intended. The episode starting on Marlena reading the invitation was a good idea. As others have said, it made this seem like a stand alone show or a primetime episode. Maggie seeing Marlena getting upset over John was a nice touch too. Loved the pre-wedding scenes with Sami and Hope giving Belle the knowing glances as Marlena talked of fidelity and honesty. Loved the remembering of the purity rings and even the mentions of Mimi and Brady. Loved Shawn and Chelsea's interaction and the honoring of Zack and John. Claire was adorable and Chelsea caring for her was cute. Glad Lucas named the baby and loved Sami's reaction. I am starting to enjoy these two again and it seems we are getting back to the dynamics that make them great. Belle's dress was great and reminded me of Sami's Vegas dress, which one would think is never a good thing LOL. The actual ceremony was wonderful. Having it in Bo and Hope's house worked because it was simple and it fit Shawn and Belle. Loved the watch idea. It showed how intelligent Philip is because Victor would totally do that and Philip exploited that. Martha gave a stellar performance as Belle wrestled with her guilt. Loved the mini-cliffhanger of her saying "she can't do this." The reception was great. The montage and Doug's speech...perfection. Julie and Maggie taking the babies and playing matchmakers for Lumi...awesome. Nice angst. Chelsea catching the bouquet was a cute moment, along with her kissing Nick. I think Doug and Julie would fit well as the new Tom and Alice-like presence. They seemed to prove that in this episode and I would like to see it. The Mickey issue does need to be resolved. It sticks out big time in episodes like this and they still can't get past it, even if they choose not to mention him. I love that Shelle's song was remembered. The dance was wonderful and it showed the writers and producers did their homework once again. The ending with Hope listening to the messages as the scene shifted to Shelle dancing and Philip outside and then the shift back to Hope was well-done. I appreciated having Hope wrestle with the decision to listen to the message to. Loved the Billie/Philip scenes, especially her "fabulous" speech (Julie had to love that as that fit her personality) and Billie mentioning how he was becoming more and more like Victor. These two work so well together. It was all spot on and fitting. Marlena and Stefano was the best part. Dee and Joe brought it. The creepy beginning with the camera showing Marlena's shoes and then the way we were brought in to the scene from her POV as we saw Stefano at the fireplace was inspired. Nice directing job by Kathy Foster throughout. Stefano had a baby carriage of some sort, which was nice foreshadowing and creepy. Loved it. Nice touch. All the history and back and forth was priceless and the way Marlena whispered to Stefano how he had made her his killer was awesome delivery and maybe even the scene of the year for me. Loved the way she threw her coat behind her as she walked out and the look on her face after she left was chilling. Loved Stefano's reaction too. Just amazing all around. Perfect show. Days is vastly improving by the day. |

Today's the first time I have been home since Friday morning, so I haven't had a chance to comment yet on this episode yet. Pardon me for the late arrival! I don't have time to type out a full review, but many scenes stood out to me. The "I'll Be" montage was terrific. Many times, certain soaps can overdo the music montages (OLTL, anyone?), but when the show is lightly sprinkled with them, they can be quite effective. Not only was Doug's little speech quite touching, it also had a special meaning because "I'll Be" is Shawn & Belle's song. The wedding itself was un-spectacular, but I think it's because this isn't really meant to be Shawn & Belle's "payoff" wedding. That'll happen down the road at some point, because we all know that a divorce is coming... I realize that there was probably already a thread about these scenes, but I don't have the time or patience to search for it. The scenes were spectacular enough to deserve numerous threads, anyway. Today's the first time I have been home since Friday morning, so I haven't had a chance to comment yet on this episode yet. Pardon me for the late arrival! The best scenes of the entire show on Friday? Marlena and Stefano! Hot phuck! I wasn't expecting this at all. I had no clue that Marlena would be confronting Stefano in this episode! I almost melted when he called her his "Queen of the Night," and when she made it seem as if she would be with him to save Sami from EJ, it reminded me so much of the seduction scene at Maison Blanche. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Who else loved her entrance? The "mystery woman" walking through the front door, the sexy high heel, the music playing and the dramatic lighting. See what I mean when I say that the lighting can make or break a scene? Many people complain that they can't "see" the show anymore, because Ed Scott has made it too dark. IMO, Ed Scott hasn't made it too dark -- he's made it dramatic! Leave the light-washed sets to sitcoms. I want my dramas to be lit as such... dim and dramatically. Then we saw the "mystery woman" looking in on Stefano, leaving us to wonder who was watching him and what their intentions were. We had just seen Marlena at the wedding, so I honestly had no clue who it was... so I was pleasantly surprised when her identity was revealed to Stefano and me, the viewer. Marlena and Stefano have such an interesting, strong chemistry with one another, and I just love the way Deidre and Joe play off one another. This scene was different, though. Marlena was STRONG. She was FIERCE. She was deadly, yet completely in control and completely calm. It was compelling to watch! When she told him that she's no longer the "queen" that he fell in love with, because he's turned her into HIS KILLER, thirsty for vengeance, I almost shat myself. For once, this is Marlena being a complete BADASS without having any kind of an "out" (demonic possession, mind control), and it makes her that much more exciting and breathtaking. Oh, and finally, the way she slung her coat over her shoulder as she exited the room was sexy and vixen as hell! She owned the room, and it wasn't even her home. |

I think my only complaint for this episode is this: when the hell did Sami become so whiny? In her short as hell scene with Lucas outside, Lucas was so strong and sure, yet miserable. I'm still waiting for the blonde one to grow up and not simply stop lying and stop being interesting. That said, the Lumi angst was a nice juxtaposition for the wedding, considering its own invalidity, emotionally. I thought the watch was a stretch, but this is a drama. You tend to train yourself to stretch at least a little. This show's done far worse, as have others. I thought it was a nice subtle way to have Philip be intrusive. Loved Philip and Billie's conversation. Her biting comeback was superb. Give this woman a story, damn it! Preferably not one that would in turn make her statement hypocritical... Not that it would get me to watch full-time again, but hey. Something almost did. Stefano and Marlena. Oh my sizzle. That scene was utterly perfect. And please keep Drake away. Soaps need new blood and a real future. Faking deaths needs to go now and forever. And actors should never return as new characters. It's only worked 100% once on DAYS and that's all because the former character was off the show for 10 years (Bonnie/Adrienne). They need to stop depending on the past all the time. A lot to ask, but until they do, and successfully, I haven't the heart to trust them again. And an absolute co-sign about Doug & Julie. They've always needed to fill the roles gradually left behind by Tom and Alice. Now, here's to them being courted to say for once. |

Oh what a bad DOOL columnist I've been. Between the holidays and work I have been bad about posting and giving you all a new column. Hopefully that will change later this week. In fact, I just now got around to watching ALL OF Friday's epi as I had only caught the first part before. Very very good show. Loved all the little touches like Chelsea apologizing about Zack not being there, the mention of Shawn and Belle's purity rings, Mimi getting a mention and the "I'll Be" montage. Like Manny, I preferred the KS-JC Shelle the best. When KS left I warmed to Shawn and Mimi but I never ever never could get into MM and KB and even preferred MM and JC to that as I just never liked KB's Phillip. I do prefer MM and JKJ together to MM and BB as I find Shawn so much more likable when he is not chasing after Belle or around her. Still, I don't mind Shelle getting married because I feel like I'm in store for some good drama, especially when Chloe comes back. LOVED LOVED LOVED Billie's I'm single and fabulous speech. You know what, DOOL? She is single and she is fabulous and I guess that means she's not going to get a love interest for a while? Well if that's the case then still keep showing her more because she's great. Marlena and Stefano's showdown still gave me chills again, all the lines were pitch perfect, the nods to history were outstanding and I feel like Dee and Joe got all the beats down perfectly. A couple of things though... -When Marlena stepped into the DiMansion and we saw the shaky camera from her point of view and Stefano was approaching her I had a flashback to that old SNL sketch with Christopher Walken called "The Continental" where you just see the woman slapping him or pouring her drink on him or whatever as he makes all these inappropriate come-ons and tries to convince her not to leave. That kind of made me LOL. -Couldn't they have given someone other than Maggie the line about the bar being open? I mean... if they want to give Maggie a falling off the wagon story, I'm down, but if they're not going there that was kind of... off. All in all though, great show. Hope some folks stayed home from Black Friday to watch it. |

I hear ya cubsgirl... and even though I'm a JKJ/Phillip fan I do have to admit Phillip looked kind of creepy there at the Brady Pub looking in the window to me watching Belle and Shawn dance. It just sort of reminded me of this old Conan O'Brien skit where they show "footage" of him from his prom and they are playing "Endless Love" with Conan looking in the window being all sad and hilariously pathetic singing along with it. Yes, I know that's probably my issue watching comedy shows too much, but dammit I can't help but callback to these things and it really takes me out of these dramatic moments. Ugh. |

Okay, so Jinxed talked me into watching this oh-so-perfect episode and in my studying break today I did watch it. It was really a nice episode. I loved the directing. Awesome job! I don't know if this was just my episode or it was like that for everyone, but the editing was bad in some places. I think it was after Doug's speech that the music was still going but it cut real fast to Stefano/Marlena scene. It was really weird. It happened one or two times again. Anyways, so many nice details from Shelle past was nice. The ruby from Puerto Rico, the purity rings etc. Those were really nice! But me being a Shelle fan (well actually I used to be a Shelle fan.. now, I have been away from DAYS for too long to really know who I root for..) couldn't really get into this wedding because of Belle's lies... I can't believe she did this. She went through with the wedding, lying to Shawn's face. The ceremony was nice, but I do have two complains... why haven't we seen the priest?! I mean, they had the actor at the reception in the pub, but they didn't have him during the ceremony?! Also, I simply hated when Belle said she couldn't... and then continued to say that she couldn't do that with Shawn interrupting. It was so JERish and so bad... Doug's speech was really nice! I love Julie and Maggie! They really should give them a storyline. It was funny watching Philip/Billie/Lucas scene and knowing they are brothers and sisters, yet neither of them had the same father... Kate is/was such a whore! Julie Pinson is wonderful, but I don't care about Billie at all... Lucas and Sami's dance was nice, and this is coming from someone who thinks Lumi are really boring... But Sami... oh my God... what has she become?! The girl was crying in half of her scenes! Crying, teary eyed... STOP IT ALREADY! God! Sami used to be my favorite character and now I am close to hating her.. really... it's really annoying to see Sami whine and cry and sob all the freaking time. When Belle was saying "I can't do this", Sami's face immediately went into sob-mode. Stefano and Marlena scenes were great. Mostly because Marlena is awesome! Deidre looks younger now... For a minute I got a flashback of the photo I saw during the possession storyline and Dee looked just like that! And that was like 10+ years ago! I like this Marlena. When she told Stefano that she will be his killer it was great! But I have a question... if Lucas was holding Alli and Sami was holding Johnny (we know that cause Julie and Maggie took the babies from them so they could dance), who was Stefano looking at in that stroller before Marlena showed up? The ending was great. Really great cliffhanger. Love Hope! And now that I'm not sure if I like Shelle anymore together, I could totally get into the Shawn/Belle/Philip triangle. Add Chloe into the mix and I would have my fun... but only if Chloe goes for Philip... I don't think I would want her to go after Shawn... And finally, Stephanie/Cordy... I could care less........ All in all, nice show! Thanks, Jinxed, for recommending it to me! ;) |
