Please link to DR, thanks. There's been a lot of hubbub about the possibility of Drake Hogestyn [ex-John] returning to Days as a new character. "I know the rumors are flying, but it's not in the scripts," insists Deidre Hall [Marlena]. "Drake hasn't been around here. I haven't spoken to him. I don't know!" But she's not necessarily ruling out a return. "Like everything else on daytime, it depends on how it's written," notes Hall. "We brought back Wayne [Northrup, ex-Roman/ex-Alex] back and for the first few minutes it was brilliant. It was a brilliant soap opera set up. The audience who knew Wayne knew there was an incredible chemistry [between us], so they wanted to see us together." No doubt viewers would feel the same about a return for Hogestyn. Hall, however, has some concerns about her popular co-star tackling a new alter ego. "John was such a profound character to the audience. If you alter that, it's like me playing the possession," notes Hall. "'Oh! Marlena can't be possessed, but she is.' If he comes back as John... I can't even speak to that." If [when] it happens, Hall knows her strong connection to Hogestyn and their diligent work ethic will still be there. "Drake and I have a great sense of what the audience wants to see," affirms Hall. "Part of the fun of performing with him is getting to play scenes the way we know will fascinate the audience. If he comes back, and if there are those scenes to play, it will be must watch TV - period |

Thanks Jonny! If he wasn't coming back I don't think there would be a new article about him almost every week. |

I think you are exactly right, Angie. Why so much talk about him if it isn't going to happen? :drunk: |

Exactly. Dee has been acting suspiciously and I wonder if this is her way of covering the secret a bit or maybe the show told her too. I do expect him to be back very soon. I think it's only a matter of time. |

For the same reason SOD/SOW kept featuring John and Marlena on the cover despite them having no story. It sells magazines. |

Normally, I would agree Ponz. However, when rumors consistently keep floating around and don't go away, there has to be some truth at the center. Only the untrue rumors die off. There has just been too many signs and now we have the mysterious patient next week. Dee has been acting odd when answering questions related to Drake as well. The mags are like tabloids now but they usually don't keep printing stories like this based on rumors if they don't have some idea there may be some truth behind it. They would just print it once and drop it but we get one in each mag a week. SOD even has a frickin "Drake Watch" going on. |

I see both sides but after watching the mags print the rumors all that the time that Grant Aleksander is coming back to GL and that Vanessa Marcil is returning to GH which are just as current as Drake coming back to Days, I don't put much faith in rumors anymore. It used to be that a rumor that doesn't die means they are coming back, but that is not the case anymore. How many times have SID, SOD, and SOW printed something about Aleksander or Marcil and they never pan out. |

Good point, Steve. They did the same thing with Missy Reeves for years. I guess it's just Dee's reactions, the new spoiler, and just a general feeling that Days always caves to fanbases that convinces me he will be back. I guess with these rumors not going away I just feel like it's inevitable. I mean, the Marcil and Alexander ones tend to come and go but the Drake ones have yet to stop at all. |

She was so right, at least by this fan, that Wayne Northrup's return was a total delight.....for a brilliant instant LOL, then JER totally ruined it. What a waste. Personally, I don't see the magic with John and Marlena and hope he never comes back so she can shine on her own and hopefully, Wayne will be coming back. |

OK here's my take on this latest Drake update. Maybe in the back of Ed Scott and/or Hogan Sheffer's heads there are plans to bring back Drake... in theory. But if that is the case, I honestly think it would wind up being a Stefano hairy arm situation where it takes MONTHS AND MONTHS for anything to be resolved for Drake Hogestyn to actually be living and breathing on our screens again acting as John Black and it would be highly complicated and expensive to make happen. Phoenix, I know you think so very little of Drake Hogestyn that you have no doubt he is capable of flat out lying to fans of "Days of our Lives," but again I will just say from my encounter with him I do not think at least as of two weeks ago that Drake had any scheduled renegotiations to extend any contract with DOOL or enter into a new one with the show or that he had any idea what was going on in the show. I also refuse to believe if there is a scam or big secret being pulled over on DOOL fans that Drake has any part in based on everything he said about his situation and John Black as well as his comments to fans saying that even Deidre Hall was worried about her situation on the show. There is simply no reason for him to go as far as he went in the things that he said unless they were the truth as he knew it. People ask what benefit the rumors serve and why they would persist if they weren't true and then reach the conclusion they must be true? Well, I say these rumors benefit the show whether they are true or not. If they are FALSE, the rumors still persist because the John fans continue spreading them and hoping they are true and the show doesn't lift a finger to put them to rest to ensure the John fans continue watching and hoping and staying invested in DOOL because they don't have closure yet and the show continues to get ink in the soap mags and the soap mags continue to sell mags on the hope of John fans as they print the latest unsubstantiated rumor. It's a win-win for the show and the mags to conspire in perpetuating the lie. That's a fact. |

That's all fair, IMA. I just think otherwise. We'll see. However, my feelings on this have nothing to do with me thinking little of Drake. Yes, I was hard on Drake after his comments in June but he partially redeemed himself, at least for me, with his SOD interview a few weeks ago. I never thought little of him. I just hated how he was phoning it in the past few years and I did not like his comments. I'm not saying he did or didn't lie to you or to his fans. I'm just saying it's possible and that all these rumors have to be going somewhere because they are not going away. Every week there is a new one and every week it's reported in the mags and they never produce so many stories about rumors like this unless it's going somewhere. Usually, they will make one story each on the rumors and back off but that is not the case. I just read SOD and the Drake story is their top news story in the front. They must have an inkling, not to mention they have quotes from setsiders two weeks straight in which they hint that the show would likely keep this quiet, just like John's death. Hogan, Ed, and Corday have said nothing about John's death and why they did it and have said nothing about these rumors. Hell, they said nothing about the rumors prior to John's death. They are keeping their mouths shut about something and Dee's hesitation in interviews when talking about Drake is telling, at least for me. Dee was the one that said in the article on John's death that anything is possible. Martha said it too and I have to wonder if there are hidden meanings there. I know as much as we all do. I am just basing all this on observations and the fact that this is not just going away. Yes, rumors do benefit the show but they usually die off at some point for a little bit and then make a comeback. This isn't dying at all. |

Deidre's always done her job and complimented the headwriter... but, if you know how she talks and how she is, you can read between the lines. I mean, watch her interview on Martha (Stewart, not Madison)... she's doing her job, and she went from fun, awesome, cool, hilarious!Dee to work mode!Dee and then back to fun!Dee. She's a pro, she knows this job. She knows what it takes to survive in the business and she's intelligent, she knows how to juggle what to say, when to say something and when silence is golden. |
