Cover Story Breaking Points Senator Jack admitted to lying about owning Jabot and is a prime suspect in Ji Min's murder investigation. This week, the Senate Ethics Committee decides to hold a hearing so they can question Abbott about these allegations. But the politician is smacked with yet another scandal when his actions from over a year ago come back to haunt him in a surprising way. During the hearing, Jack is questioned about owning Jabot and his role in the Ji Min case. He gets some support from John's ghost, who advises Jack to say that he wanted to own Jabot to make John proud. "At first, he does well with their questions," states his portrayer, Peter Bergman. "In fact, he can answer them pretty easily. The thing is, all of these accusations against him, everything that's happened - if he were anything but a senator, he wouldn't have to answer any questions. But because he's an elected official, he has to answer any allegation that comes out. And any time he says, 'No comment,' he's screwed." Jack firmly believes that Victor is behind Ji Min's death, and during the recess, Ben asks if he wants the court to play the tape of Victor confronting Ji Min. "Only he promised Sharon that he wouldn't say anything about Victor possibly being a suspect since Victor is dealing with Victoria [being in a coma]," explains Bergman. "But if someone starts asking questions about Victor's culpability, what's wrong with answering? So after he's asked by a reporter, he has the reporter repeat the question a little more loudly," chuckles the actor. "Jack gives a diplomatic answer that it's none of his business. But in that way, he gets around what Sharon made him promise not to do." Jack gets his way when Maggie and Heather decide to search Victor's home, but unbeknownst to him, Gloria and Jill persuade the hearing's chairman to allow them to testify against Abbott. Later, the judge plays an incriminating tape of Ben trying to talk Maggie into investigating Victor. Jill and Gloria then take the stand and bash Jack's character. "Jill would just like to see Jack take it for Ji Min," explains Bergman. "She can't make any sense of what's happened to Ji Min and she needs someone to blame for his death. She's been a part of Jack's life for a long time, so I like that they've made her a key part of the storyline." But it's Gloria's testimony that's especially damaging; she alleges that Jack tricked a delusional John into altering his will to leave her out while John was still in jail - and that she can prove it. "Again, this is in a public forum, so Jack has to answer it," sighs Bergman. "He has no idea if the piece of evidence is even legitimate. He didn't even think she'd be allowed to speak at this thing! He's cornered. It's just going to keep getting uglier and uglier and he doesn't really have anyone to defend him at this point - not even really Ben or Sharon. And Gloria's going to be serving even more claims in Jack's world. I think that Jack is looking at some tough times ahead." Home Again, Home Again Though Victoria is still comatose, her parents get some positive news when the doctor informs them that she's been stabilized. However, when Victor and Nikki are advised to transfer the patient to a long-term care facility, they agree to keep her at the Newman ranch so she won't be far from her newborn baby. Nikki decides to move back into the ranch with her ex so she can help care for Victoria. When Victor asks if she's still with David, Nikki replies that her only concern is Victoria. Victor welcomes her. "Nikki isn't leaving David," clarifies Melody Thomas Scott. "It's just that with the situation with Victoria, she doesn't see any time that she'll have available for him right now until Victoria wakes up. Of course, living at the house, when is she going to see him? He may view it as her leaving him, but I don't." David, however, wants to make sure he isn't forgotten. He sends a romantic card to the ranch along with a box of Nikki's belongings. Victor finds it and is furious when he realizes it's from David. So do Nikki and Victor still have feelings for each other? "If she does have feelings for him, we have not addressed that at all," says Scott. "Certainly her top priority is Victoria, and if she had to live at the gates of hell for her, she'd do that." Nikki is prepared for a cantankerous host. "With Victor, she's anticipating a lot of disagreements, but anything is worth it to be close to her daughter," Scott notes. "Even when people are hating each other, when something this serious comes up in a family, everyone tries to move past that and do what is best for the injured party. They're trying to overcome their problems for the sake of their daughter." Hot Plots Preview Daddy Drama Victoria is still in a coma this week and Brad and JT still have no idea who fathered her newborn baby. But that doesn't stop Carlton from Taking action. Brad has the doctor test the sick baby's blood type, which is the same as Brad's - 0-positive. "The baby is on life support," explains Don Diamont. "He's in the neonatal ICU. He needs help breathing because he has underdeveloped lungs." Brad pays the infant a visit and decides to give him a special name. "He says he would like to name the baby Arthur, after his father," says Diamont. "But it's not on the birth certificate. He can't do that. He has no rights to that kid yet." Things become even more confusing when JT reveals that his blood type is also 0-positive. "There will be a paternity test soon," teases Diamont. "There has to be," adds Amelia Heinle. "Eventually, they're going to have to reveal who the father is since they've been drawing this out for a while." Record This 12/6: Victor is furious when police arrive at his home with a search warrant. Will he be charged with killing Ji Min? "Jack has good reason to believe that Victor is responsible [for the murder]," notes Peter Bergman. What Will Happen Cane, Heather, Lily and Adrian attend a fund-raiser together. Cane and Heather make an important decision about their relationship. Brad and JT each claim Victoria's baby as his own. Who's Coming Jerry Douglas (John Abbott): Jack's late father makes another appearance on December 10. Todd Waring (Todd Scheller Jr): Scheller has some important information for Gloria on December 5. Billy Warlock (Ben Hollander): Jack's right-hand man makes some more appearances during the weeks of December 3 and December 10. Many Happy Returns Y&R might be eying Ashley Tesoro (ex-Kimberly, B&B). The actress, who left B&B in 2001, reports that she recently met with TPTB at Y&R. "It wasn't for any specific role, it was just a general meeting to see if they liked my work," she explains. "And they did, so we'll see if any roles come up that are appropriate for me. I'd love to be on Y&R; it would be such an honor," she praises. "It seems like a lot of actors go back and forth between B&B and Y&R [like Adrienne Frantz, Amber, who was on B&B with Tesoro], so it would be fun if I got to do that, too." |
