The biggest thing that makes me mad about all this is that Corday, Hogan, NBC whoever for the last few years keeps bringing up the budget issue. For me as a fan it makes it hard for me to feel sorry for them when they make dumb decisions like they are making. I mean having Thaao on contract and paying him guarantees but not using him is wasting money. But yet they want me to understand when they let one of my faves go. If they had used the money wisely I could feel sorry for them but they didn't.

What are they doing too with Drake. I mean he is sitting doing nothing drawing a pay check from them. I mean Aniston and the Hayes don't get paid unless they are used so you can't fault them on the budget issue with them, but the others you can.

I would just love to know how much they have wasted this year on Drake and Deidre alone who have the biggest salaries of all. I mean when you have someone like Frances who gets paid and I am glad they do because she deserves it, you have to watch the other non-paid performers who get paid when they are not working. Frances you understand but others you don't.

Drake, Deidre, Thaao and even Renee were willing to work this year, but yet they all got paid a big part of the time for not working at all.

I just read through this whole discussion and I'd like to make a few comments...

1) Regarding toning down the storylines to have a "happy Christmas", that doesn't mean that they have to have a boring Christmas. Days has followed two models for the Christmas season in the past. Either, they've kept the storylines running full force and then they've taken 2 or 3 days "off" for the hospital reading, etc, OR, they've had a mini "Christmas Miracle" payoff in one of the ongoing storylines. If they are trying to follow the first model now, that's fine, but I really don't think they are or should be downplaying every story until the end of the year.

2) I think it's very hard to argue with the idea that Days has wasted money and talent on the vets this year.

3) Regarding Hogan's writing, I agree with the idea that he only uses characters when he needs them in the story. I think this is extremely poor soap opera writing. A good head writer should be able to keep 3 or 4 stories going simultaneously, and a better head writer will even be able to make all those stories intersect at certain points.

4) Since I think Hogan does keep characters 'in reserve' for when he needs them, I think this explains why Thaao, Renee and Leann aren't on now. Maybe Hogan asked for them to be brought back just in case he needed them for an episode or two. It's really a shame. All three could carry a story, and I think Days should have only brought them back if that was the intention.

Is Renee even still on the show or was Shelle's wedding really the last time we see her? Better not be. She didn't even have a fucking single line in that episode.

Hmm. According to SOW, her last airdate was Nov 29th, but she wasn't on on the 29th. Oh wait - just found another source that said her last airdate was the 23rd, which was the Shelle wedding, when she was on. I bet that was it for her... :(

Days has a history of always having a great December. They usually hold off on their November Sweeps stuff and play the 'big' stuff at the beginning of December, then they have the Christmas-themed episodes, which are always spectacular, and then (most of the time) something big happens on New Years Eve. Last year, it was John getting shot and EJ raping Sami. Another year, there was Kate and Roman's "bloody" wedding. Another year, there was the "Murder at Midnight" story, with Colin's death. In 1999/2000, it was the reveal and death of Princess Gina on the rooftop of the Penthouse Grill.

What was the last Christmas "miracle?" I remember Sami standing up in the middle of St. Luke's after getting her memory back and shouting to everyone that she didn't shoot Franco. That was the Christmas miracle in 1998. Of course, we had John reuniting Marlena with baby Belle in... 1993? The most recent one I can think of is Max and Mimi being rescued from the basement of the church. Why were they down there, anyway? Something Victor/Phillip related. I remember them walking into the Brady Pub and everyone being relieved to see them, and that lousy piece was the "miracle" last year.

Anyway, Days has a history of having great Decembers. There's no reason to hold off on the good stuff now!

Agree about New Years Eve, you're right, that's a very good point. And the 'miracles' I was thinking of when I wrote that were mostly in the 90's. But either way, I agree with you, December is not a time to 'downshift' the stories. People are home on vacation and watching Daytime TV, and there's a lot to play off of regarding the holidays. If anything, the writers should be intensifying the stories at this time of year.

Don't forget the Christmas miracle when Jennifer found out that she was pregnant with Jack's baby right after he was murdered. You remember that Christmas, don't you? The one where there were like 5 people at the Horton Christmas. That was the worse Christmas episode EVER!

Yeah, our Hortons are dwindling away.

At the store the other day, I saw some "make it yourself" tree ornaments, and I pointed them out to my mother. She said, "Ooh, we can be like the Brady's and put our names on them!"

I said, "You mean the Hortons..."

She replied, "The Hortons? Who are they?"

Sad, sad, sad, LoL.

Ok, I decided to do a little research project because I was curious. Here are the xmas "miracle events" (if any) for the past ten years...

97 - Jack and Jenn were missing then show up to hang their ornaments!
98 - Sami prays for a miracle and then remembers she didn't kill Franco!
99 - No miracle. Hope and Stefano are stuck in Paris, Gina proposes to Bo.
00 - Bo and Hope's wedding, and Brady regains feeling in his leg!
01 - Special "Out of Character" show in honor of Sept 11th. (Lead story at that time was John is JT's father.)
02 - Chloe reads the story at the hospital and finds out Craig is her father!
03 - Jenn announces she's pregnant.
04 - Billie gets a text msg from Georgia!
05 - Claire needs a transplant ... and we all know how that was resolved. :(
06 - John is shot, Hope has Ciara.

07... ???

LoL @ you listing "John is shot" as one of the Christmas miracles! I know you didn't mean it that way, but I still got a chuckle out of it. Also, I dont think that Hope having Ciara happened on Christmas... that was on NYE, wasn't it? The same night John was shot.

I would say that Mimi/Max being rescued from the basement they were locked in was last year's Christmas 'miracle.'

This could be a fun game, though, to guess what this year's Christmas miracle will be... if any. Also, what dramatic event will happen on NYE?

The 'miracle' will probably be EJ regaining feeling in his legs, thus he's not paralyzed anymore. Of course, from there he'll probably fake the paralysis to keep Sami by his side. Also, Steve and Kayla will probably find out that she's pregnant or something.

LOL! I didn't mean it that way. It was more the 'Christmas week storyline highlights' (or, in this case, lowlight.) And I was liberal with the dates... all of these happened sometime between Christmas and New Years. All were portrayed as Christmas miracles or events on the show, however.

Right, missed that.

Well, they'd be a good match then - didn't she do that too??

How about John showing up? That would be a nice miracle. :)

Although I want this story with Marlena to play out before John returns, can you imagine that Christmas miracle?!

I'm picturing it now...

Marlena walks along the pier, Christmas Eve. Carolers are walking to and fro, singing various Christmas songs as Marlena has memories of her and John together during Christmases past, leading us into a tear-jerking holiday music montage. As we fade back to Marlena on the pier, we hear the carolers singing "O Holy Night." Behind her, we see John looking at her with tears in his eyes, and Marlena shivers as if she can feel his presence. He touches her shoulder from behind, and she looks down to see his hand touching her. As she turns around to see John smiling, her eyes fill with tears and joy overcomes her so much that she begins to faint. The carolers sing "fall on your knees" and Marlena falls to her knees as John catches her in his arms. As the song continues, John picks Marlena up and carries her away to someplace warm as he runs his fingers through her hair. As he walks with her, the camera pulls back to reveal a beautiful angel statue watching over both of them...

Oh, and yup, Sami faked both amnesia and paralysis for months in 1997 to keep Austin by her side.

I'd like John to come back soon, but J&M could have parallel storylines for a while... they wouldn't have to meet on screen right away. We could save that for sweeps. :)

I hear there's a writer's strike... I think you should send that in!

Interesting that something John-related happens the same day that Stefano examines his "secret weapon."

I bet her cleaning out John's closet will be HEARTBREAKING.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum. I've been watching Days for about 22 years now (minus the time during the Stan storyline; I have to say that was terrible). Also, I'd like to say that I'm an Ejami fan through and through.

Back to the spoiler....wouldn't it be interesting as Marlena and Hope clean out John's closet they come across some item that would kick off Marlena's big storyline this month? ;) Any speculations and/or thoughts on this?
