SOD:

Over at Days of Our Lives, the future of fan favorite Bryan R Dattilo [Lucas] seems to be in question. Reports that the powers that be notified Dattilo that they wouldn't be renewing his contract, which expires in early 2008, spread like wild fire across the daytime community. The actor is said to have announced the news in the make-up room, surprising his co-stars. Then, he cleared out his dressing room. Digest spoke to Dattilo, who insists he isn't going anywhere.

"I never like to say things aren't going to happen, especially in this business and the way my life has gone," he shrugs. "It seems like things just happen without my control. I don't know what the future brings, but as far as leaving, it's just a rumor. It isn't true." As for the dressing room, he explains, "I was cleaning out my room and people thought that was odd and maybe that's how it started but it's just a rumor."

Insiders tell a different story, however. "Bryan is going to be written out for a few months as part of an upcoming story and then will be back," says one. "His exit is not permanent." This isn't the first time Lucas has been off the canvas since creating the role in 1993. He was written out in 2001, only to be brought back a year later. "It humbled me greatly," he said at the time.

SOW:

Out?
With the big reveal that Lucas is the shooter who planted a bullet in EJ's spine, rumors abound that Bryan R Dattilo's Days of Our Lives days may be numbered. "No comment," responds the actor. Dattilo got even more cryptic when he asked if Lucas was worried about going to jail. "He should have bigger fears than the slammer," hints Dattilo. "I've got to leave it at that. That's all I can say."

It is, Mason.

The only hope for me is that they go and get Travis from IWTBASS. I think he fit the role perfectly. Hopefully, they will at least get a good actor if they go that route but, hopefully, they don't even bother to bring him back at all right now.

The entire time I watched Travis on IWBASS, I kept thinking he would be a perfect Brady recast. Although I don't really want Brady back, Travis would be a good casting choice.

As for Lucas, this is a little strange. I don't like him, but he does have a lot of fans who adore him. I've dreamed of Lucas going away but never thought it would actually happen; however, being written out at the end of a contract doesn't sound very positive for BD. But who knows....between DAYS not giving out much info any more and the writer's strike going on for who knows how much longer, anything could happen to anyone.

Thanks Jonatha..I think this is all very fishy. It reeks of what went down with Drake IMO.

I'm guessing, the Dimera's think Lucas was the shooter, so they kill him. And, then he magically, reappears.

Maybe Hogan is doing another Oakdale 3 storyline, this time with men in Salem.

Stephano will arrange for all his enemies to be captured much like James and Barbara arranged for Rose, Carly and Emily to vanish. Then they all show up, in some lab somewhere. IMO, despite the aging-test aspect of the ATWT story, this was the best story of Hogan's career. (nix that, Jake and Vicky's ghost was the best of his career).

Perhaps John and Lucas will wind up alive in the same place in the new year. Maybe they'll be joined by someone else from Stephano's hit list, Steve or Bo perhaps. Of course, this is just speculation and not what I want to see happen.

Hmm, Stefano's probably got him someplace, then. Probably holding him in the same cell he has John.

Can't believe I forgot to comment on Kyle aka Brady Black.
Why, why do we need that character on now? Didn't we need him back in October? Uhm, you would think it is more important for him to be with his stepmom and sister when his FATHER dies, but no, you want him back for a stupid overplayed triangle. GMAFB. :flipoff:
And thank heavens he did not agree to come back. I'm just sayin'

ITA! Although, now, we'll probably have to deal with a recast.

Got this in an e-mail from Bryan's fan forum:

Good news everyone, Bryan is staying put and is not leaving.

This is a statement from his manager.

Despite the rumors and cover of SOD, Bryan's contract has officially been picked up so he's staying in Salem.

I know everyone was worried and didn't know what was happening with his contract or Bryan's status from all of the magazine articles, we can now rest and know that Bryan will be gracing our screens for a very long time and will always be Lucas in our books.

I figured as much.

Good to hear confirmation and that his contract is picked up. Days does need him. He's a Horton and a familiar face that has been here for 14 years.

Oh, I could definitely see that happening. John, Brady and Lucas all being held hostage. John and Lucas would make sense, but Brady? Other than the fact that he's John's son, Brady has nothing against the DiMeras, and the DiMeras have nothing against him. Something could have happened off-screen with Brady and the DiMeras, but still, shouldn't Chloe be more concerned about the DiMeras and why they took her husband?

That statement seems very odd.

I'll wait to see confirmation on his contract status. A girl who mods his site said he was picked up weeks ago, yet the mags did not report it like they did with Martha. Everything you can track down says his contract is up in FEB.

The show has scripts through JAN. I heard (via TV guide channel) SOAP producers are going to be writing scripts till the strike ends. I guess Lucas's return is in ED Scott's hands. I fully expect to see Bryan's character return. I am just curious as to when exactly that will be. Maybe SOD and SOW will have more info for us soon.

That is a strange statement, Dragonish. How cryptic! I wonder what is up with that? Are they going to turn Lucas bad? Bryan's said ad nauseum that he would like to play Lucas as a bad guy, or a DiMera. Gawd, I hope they don't turn him into a rapist. :o

I think they are going to make Lucas a bad guy. Honestly, I see the character as a bad guy right now. Over the last six months BD has sounded very unhappy in interviews. He has said many times that he wants Lucas to return to his bad boy roots, so perhaps they are doing what he wants. I do not think he has been happy playing Sami's sidekick.

Lucas has always been Sami's sidekick, though, so I don't know what his issue is. He should just take it and run, make it the best sidekick role he can. He's starting to remind me of Fath.

Bryan seems to have a habit of freaking his fans out, sending them all into a panic with fears that he's leaving.

My guess is that he does it when he's afraid of losing his job, simply to get his fans writing in early to let TBTB know exactly how much they worship him. It's all a job-saving measure. He must think he's brilliant!

It really is transparent. He did the same thing this past summer when all those rumors were going around that he was out.
