From what I heard it was ABC going after Rebecca again which they probably have been doing the whole time and she decided to take it. The letter up there makes it seem like Rebecca came to them and begged. This isn't the first time a recast has been given the heave ho when the originator or more popular actor has agreed to come back and it won't be the last.

I don't think Sabine is a bad actress but she was up against a lot coming into this role: taking over from a popular actress, crappy writing and being shoved down our throats didn't help matters what so ever.

Rebecca Budig's Comeback Q&A

All My Children aficionados can look forward to a major treat in the new year. Save the date! Rebecca Budig returns to Pine Valley as Greenlee Smythe on January 16, 2008. (The lovely and talented Sabine Singh--who stepped into Greenlee's high heels last spring--will last air on January 15.) After two years away from AMC's set in New York City, Budig is excited and nervous about returning to her signature soap role. She is moving cross country, since she's been living in Los Angeles with her husband, Bob Guiney of The Bachelor fame. But Budig just couldn't resist the call of popular demand! In this emotional Q&A, the fabulous fan favorite talks to ABC.com about her big homecoming.

We've missed you! Is there anything you want to tell AMC fans about your return to the show?
I want to say, "Please welcome me back." 'Cause I'm scared as hell that they won't! [Laughs] And I'm really excited to be back. I hope they ask all their friends to watch and get excited about the show again…. I think it's gonna turn a corner.

Certain actors put such an indelible mark on their roles that it's really difficult for anyone else to fill in for them. You're the REAL Greenlee.
Aw, you're so sweet! You make me feel so good because I have this mixed bag of emotions going on right now. Because I love Greenlee, I feel protective of her! [Laughs] In one way, I feel really excited to go back and see what happens with her. In another way, I have a house, a husband, a dog and a life in L.A. But change is really good…. It creates movement. I'm excited.

You can't doubt that the fans want you back.
I know that they've been loyal and really supportive and sweet. When I'm out and I meet people, they say really nice things to me. I'm just really thankful to the fans. Love the daytime fans.

What convinced you that now's the time to come back as Greenlee?
It just sort of worked out, the timing and everything. My life is in L.A. right now, and there's a lot of things that they did to make this easier for me. [ABC Daytime president] Brian Frons knows how to make things look really good!

What's your life been like in the past two years away from Pine Valley?
Well, I just did a CSI. That was pretty cool--I played a stripper! And I did a pilot for Fox [called The Beast] that didn't get picked up. I've been working, but other than that… I got a dog. [Laughs]

What do you think of Sabine Singh's portrayal of Greenlee?
I think she brought in a different perspective on the character. Obviously, I played this character for six years and I have a different take on Greenlee. But I think she did a great job!

Have you caught up on what's happened since the other actress has played Greenlee? She's done some ugly things.
They just sent me a synopsis of all the things that have happened to Greenlee in eight months. I'm only a month into it. I'm like, "Oh my God, so much has happened in one month!" Hopefully, everyone can move past it 'cause I do like her causing problems.

SPOILER ALERT! On the bright side, it will turn out that Greenlee is not responsible for Spike's deafness. At some point, Kendall will tell Greenlee that it's an inherent medical condition.
Oh my God, I'm so relieved to hear that. Otherwise, how do you forgive her?

We've got another spoiler. Your first scene is a party at Fusion, and there's even a "Welcome Home Kendall" and Greenlee banner.
Oh, that's cool! I'm really excited to work with Alicia Minshew (Kendall), Aiden Turner (Aidan), Cameron Mathison (Ryan) and Thorsten Kaye (Zach). I've missed my friends. And I love Greenlee and Kendall together because Alicia and I have so much fun together. I'm really looking forward to that.

Always the Panic Spreader

wow....just wow
I am so happy to see her return....and they even changed the story around so we can forgive Greens. Makes me wonder if that was the intention if Budig were playing the part when the character came back.

I liked SS but this is beyond question Rebecca's role!! I look forward to seeing her back on my TV screen!

I think SS should try other New York soaps, she would make a great Michelle recast on GL.
