Soap Dish: All about saving face on 'Young and the Restless'
By CAROLYN HINSEY
Saturday, December 8th 2007, 4:00 AM

Jeffrey Bardwell busts Gloria for the tainted Jabot face cream this week on "The Young and the Restless," leading to a shocking outcome.

"Another man who's trying to take all her money," snaps Judith Chap-man, who plays wealthy widow Gloria Abbott Bardwell.

"First Jack Abbott, now it's Will's evil Eurotrash twin. Gloria's like, 'I can't help it if my husband loved me and gave me all the money.'" Gloria's late husband, William, may have loved her once, but before he died, he reached out to his twin brother, Jeffrey, to clue him in on the fact that she contaminated the Jabot cream a few years back, which resulted in a woman's death.

"Gloria feigns innocence until Jeff shows her a letter William wrote to him that says not to let 'her' get away with it," Chapman says. "Gloria thinks, 'I may be guilty, but I'm not stupid' and she puts a Gloria spin on it: 'It says, "Don't let HER get away with it." It doesn't say Gloria. It could be anybody.' She tries to direct it in somebody else's direction, i.e. Jill."

Namely, her rival Jill Abbott. "Two can play this game," Chapman says. "It's really a cat-and-mouse game, and unfortunately Jeffrey's winning."

Even though Gloria points the finger at Jill, Jeffrey doesn't buy it. The next day, Gloria is having a meeting with Jill and Katherine to discuss the Fresh Face launch when Jeffrey interrupts, hissing privately to Gloria that he's going to tell Katherine everything.

"Gloria immediately makes a beeline to the GCAC for a noonday martini," Chapman says, chuckling. "Gloria doesn't really drink that much - only in times of extreme stress.

"She is doing just that at the bar when Jeffrey reap-pears with a surprising offer.

"He says, 'I didn't turn you in but there is something you have to do [in exchange]. You have to marry me,' " Chapman says. "He wants her money! Gloria is uber-rich. She's got Bardwell's money, and she just got John Abbott's money finally. So he's blackmailing her. That greedy SOB wants it all.

"Not so fast, says Gloria.

"She continues the cat-and-mouse game with him," Chapman says. "She says, 'I only marry for love. So when everybody's convinced that you love me - and I love you - THEN we'll say I do.'"
