Soap Dish: Trouble this week on 'As the World Turns'

Saturday, January 12th 2008, 4:00 AM

Dusty rejects Lily this week on "As the World Turns," which sends her on a downward spiral that culminates in a shocking death on Friday.

"It starts bad and ends worse," warns Martha Byrne, who plays the tormented heroine. "Lily has been fragile since her [pill] addiction. It will take very little to set her off again."

In this case, it's Dusty telling her he is still in love with Emily.

"She is completely devastated," says Byrne. "That sets her off, and she starts scoring drugs again. She goes to Yo's to pick up a couple of pills - I didn't realize that Yo's was the hot spot for medication - and she runs into Krista."

Krista used to work as a prostitute - with Emily! - a fact she shares over drinks [and pills] with Lily.

"At first, Lily misunderstands," says Byrne. "She says, 'You must be talking about somebody else.' There's no way that the Emily she knows would do something like that. But then it starts to make sense. Lily uses that information in the most horrible way because she's hurt."

Indeed, Lily leaves a note for Emily's boyfriend, Chris, detailing Emily's life as a prostitute, and then heads for a party at the hospital, where everything blows up.

"Lily sees [her estranged husband] Holden with Bonnie, not nec-essarily in a romantic way, but Lily has had a couple of cocktails and a couple of pills, so she's a mess. She finds some drugs on a drug cart and downs as much as she can."

Holden finds a crumpled Lily on the floor and they pump her stomach.

"It's a cry for help," says Byrne. "She's in a hospital, for God's sake! She tells Holden that Dusty ruined her life. That betrayal was more than she could take. She can't believe he'd rather be with Emily than her, knowing Emily was a prostitute. He could have rich dysfunction with Lily, but he chooses hooker dysfunction with Emily!"

Holden goes and blasts Dusty.

"He says, 'How could you push Lily to this point? You knew she was vulnerable!' Meanwhile, Emily thinks Dusty put the note under Chris' door. It's not a good day for Dusty at all."

And it's about to get worse.

"Lily is wandering the halls of the hospital still affected by the medication," hints Byrne. "God knows what she's up to."

Q. Why did "General Hospital" let Emily die? She and Nikolas were a good match, and weren't they a couple in real life? - C.C., Bronx

A. Natalia Livingston wanted out, so "GH" made Emily a victim of the Text Message Killer rather than recast the role again. Livingston and Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) did indeed date for a while, but they are no longer together.

Q. How could "One Life to Live" make Asa's loyal servant, Nigel, so disloyal? - A.F., Brooklyn

A. If you're talking about Asa's will, "OLTL" established that David Vickers would make a less desirable Buchanan than Jared Banks, so Nigel let Jared claim the title - for now. Look for the soap to revisit that decision when David returns.

Q. Why is "The Young and the Restless" taking Jack down, but not Gloria? When is she going to pay? - N.P., Brooklyn

A. Jeffrey is blackmailing Gloria into marriage, but Michael,Lauren and Kevin know the truth about the tainted face cream, so don't think this story is over!
