'Nashville Star' Migrates to NBC
Music show, 'Gladiators' set for summer runs

"Nashville Star" will be back on the air in 2008, but not in its longtime home.

Instead, the country-music competition will migrate from the USA Network to its broadcast sibling NBC. The show will join a second season of "American Gladiators" in what NBC is calling its "All-American Summer" lineup, leading up to its coverage of the Olympics in August.

"We are thrilled to feature the powerhouse 'Gladiators' this summer, and it's a real coup to bring 'Nashville Star' to NBC," says Craig Plestis, head of alternative programming at NBC.

"Nashville Star" has aired for five seasons on USA, helping launch the careers of Miranda Lambert, Buddy Jewell and last season's winner, Angela Hacker, who beat out her brother Zac to win the crown. About 3 million people watched last season's finale, a record for the show.

The show will also continue its run of replacing its host and judges after a season or two. Singers Jewel and Cowboy Troy hosted last season but won't make the leap to NBC; nor will judges Anastasia Brown, Blake Shelton and Randy Owen. Additionally, "Nashville Star" will open its competition to duos and groups as well as solo artists this season.

NBC announced the pickup of "American Gladiators" earlier this week. Both it and "Nashville Star" are produced by Reveille, the production company founded by now-NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman.

I hope NBC improves the show. I think it needs to be stretched out longer. I think Jewel did a good job as host, as did Leann Rimes. I hope the show keeps Jewel as host. Cowboy Troy can be cut IMHO. As far as the judges go, there could be improvement. I think Randy Owen of Alabama was too nice and should be cut imho.

I haven't watched Nashville Star since the first season, and had no idea it was still even on tv. Interesting that they are moving it to NBC.

I will probably check out Nashville since it is now on a Network that I watch more than USA.

Speaking of Jewel, I think she did a great job with her first country gig -- didn't like it at first, but it warmed up. Now, love it. But does anyone else feel a chuckle coming on every TIME she sings that line, "the kind of woman I WAHNT my DAAWATAH TO BAAAYEEE." Come on. It seems a little artificial to me. The twang is laid on TOO thick in that single line. I laugh every time I hear it. I really have to wonder if Nashville will accept her venture to cross over. Granted, she was smart to host "Nashville Star." That's certainly one way to hopefully get in their good graces. But those guys comprise a tough bunch.

I'm not thrilled with replacing the judges and hosts (Cowboy Troy) or that they are adding duo's and groups. It won't be Nashville Star. They should have just started a whole new program. This won't be the same at all. Ugh.
