Bill O'Reilly, who I usually cannot stand, just totally put Jeff Zucker, NBC, MSNBC and CNBC on blast and went to down a list of the networks' horrible, horrible ratings.

Hm, for once I actually agree with him. Anyone who puts NBC and especially Zucker on notice gets my approval.

Wow...first, the P&G soaps and Fox news and now Bill O Reilly blasting NBC.

It must be a slow news week or something  . I'm glad he is though. I mean, I'm not sure if change will mean much but it's worth a shot and better then doing nothing.

^Well, I didn't like all her stories but I do think she and JER worked very well together. She really grounded him and tamed him. It worked well but I don't see JER ever agreeing to work with a co-HW again. He's too egotistical now.

I agree they were a good team, but if I had to take one of them without the other, I'd take her in a second.

#1 Fan of Daytime Psychos!

I can't help but wonder what Frons would think of JER if Days went to ABC. He's surely seen what JER has done for the ratings in the past...I think he'd be the perfect writer for carrying the show over to another network if that ever happened.

I know a lot of people think I am crazy but the writers I have always wanted to see given a chance at Days are Jerome & Bridget Dobson. I know they would probably never return to daytime, but I really think they could good at Days for some reason. They wrote good adventure stories and stuff for Cruz and Eden and they always do comedy good too. That is not the be all of soaps but I do love good comedic relief from time to time.

I am just not fond anymore of writer returns to a show. All of them over the past 5 or 6 years have not worked out. Michael Malone did terrible his second time at OLTL. Higley has been a failure at Days the 2nd time. and so on.

I was not crazy about Jack Smith at Y&R but he might be good for Days.

So I guess my choices would be either the Dobsons or Jack Smith.

He was basically bragging about how Fox News has TROUNCED MSNBC and CNBC in the ratings, but he did mention that NBC placed last when it came to the major networks.

God...Frons and JER. Now there's surely a match made in Soap Hell.

I like the Dobsons for DAYS, as well. If they could be convinced, I'd be all on board for them to write DAYS, although I'm sure they'd demand an ungodly amount of money.

Someone else that I think might be good is Claire Labine. She didn't get OLTL but she did great at GH and I think of her in the lines of Pat Falken Smith, Margaret DePriest and they were splendid at Days.

I think she could really ground Days.

Claire Labine would be totally mismatched with DAYS, IMO. Her brief time as HW of GL was a disaster.

That's because she didn't get it or OLTL. Days is a type of show she can write for. She was wonderful at LOL, RH and GH. Days has a lot of the same elements those 3 shows did. I think she would be perfect now that I think about it.

She loves crime stories. I think she is more of a match for Days than Hogan was really. Not every writer gets every show. Labine said she didn't get GL or OLTL and that makes a big difference.

And I just have to post this - this is one of the best descriptions I've ever seen of Sheri's writing, and yes, this was written by someone who is not generally a J&M fan.

I love this comment in one of the replies:

"The supercouple phenomenon was a heavily marketed byproduct of the skilled storytelling these writers produced; it wasn’t the catalyst."

The trouble with DAYS in the post-91 era is that they've tried to live off the phenomenon itself instead of the brilliant, character-driven material in which it was grounded. It explains why Corday thought he could annoint Shelle as the next supercouple despite terrible acting and writing. TPTB confuse the consequence of DOOL's greatness with the cause.

If Labine wrote DAYS like she wrote GH, then I could see it being successful. But if she wrote it like she wrote RH (which was very good), however, I don't think many modern DAYS fans would like her work.

EXCELLENT point. That's exactly it. And they're still trying to coast on the momentum of what writers like Sheri created.

Realism and grittyness are core elements in Claire's writing. Those elements aren't the first things that come to mind when I think of DAYS in the state its been in for over 20 years. DAYS has veered far off into the opposite direction over the years. I think for someone like Labine to come in and try to ground it, it would be a huge mistake and fans would hate her more than they did Hogan.

Frons and JER won't happen b/c of egos alone.

She can do campy though too. She was very cutting edge with Where The Heart Is and Love of Life. I loved her on both of those shows even more than RH and GH.

Her two versions of those shows were reminiscent of very early Santa Barbara for me. She wrote some pretty racy stories for WTHI and then had the first curse word ever spoken in daytime written for Love of Life.

I would love to see her keep some of Days campy elements while trying to ground the show too. Let the show go out on a high note.

JER - I really think JER will rock Days if Corday STFU and stay out of it. Let the writers write. Duh!
