JER can't write for daytime anymore based on three things: 1. His Ego 2. He's lost his touch. 3. We've seen all he has to offer, and we've seen it a lot. Edited by King, Jun 12 2008, 08:26 PM.

JER had all the control he could want on PASSIONS, and look where that got the show. |

If JER comes back to DAYS, I will quit the show on the spot of the announcement. I don't know who I want to HW for DAYS, but Corday is an idiot and will most likely hire someone all wrong anyway. |

JER wanted PSNS to be a unique soap and he wanted to take it where no soap or other show would dare to go. |

Well, it certainly did that. I can't think of any other soap that's gonna have a hermaphrodite get knocked up by his own father any time soon. |

If JER returned, all we would have is flashbacks and fakeouts. That's all we ever saw during his 2nd run. |

My vote would go to someone who has NEVER written in Daytime before. If they keep recycling daytime writers we get the same sl's over and over and over again! |

Not completely. I've only seen a couple of long flashbacks so far. And I don't recall seeing any really really long detailed scenes to find out that it was someone's daydream after the commercial break. JER was 3/4 flashback, 1/4 daydream. :shame: |

What we have now is like JER-lite, and it's bad enough. I have no need whatsoever for the real thing. |

Hear hear! Someone who is a fan of the show and knows and loves soaps and the characters but who we don't have to recycling crap from whatever show they got fired from last or bringing too much baggage from their past gigs. |

JER could be really bad and ridiculous but I don't ever remember him being THIS boring. Maybe this tedious but never this bland. |

JER has never written Days like he writes Passions. Passions is meant to be ridiculous and laughable. As I go back and watch past episodes from 2004 (one of my favorite years in Days...yes, I know I'm alone in that), I remember how much I loved the show. I literally cared about every story and would nearly CRY if I missed an episode. It makes me too sad to think that JER will never write daytime again. He has to have one last run at Days before he retires. One last hurrah! |

God, I hope JER never writes a soap opera gain (JMO). Honestly, as much as JER really drove ratings in the 1990s, IMO he pretty much wrecked the show for the long-haul. He made the show ultra campy when it had never been ultra campy before (true, it had quite a few adventure stories and sci-fi elements starting in the 1980s thanks to the GH influence spread across all of the genre), but never out and out campy. Unfortunately, that campiness grabbed ratings and a lot of other soaps started following suit (hell, NBC even tried to *force* AW to be more outthere to the level of Days. That's one of the reasons we got Lumina *shudder*). Ever since, subsequent writers have been stuck with attempting to do the 1990s camp side of Days while trying to ground it somewhat and it's just never worked. Truly, no one but JER can write like JER (and, truthful, even *he* can't really write like JER anymore). I truly feel that whomever becomes the next HW is going to have to write in a style all their own and not try to copy any previous style. Will it draw a lot of cricism? More than likely, but I think it's a chance the show has to take. Perhaps they should look at a novelist or a playwrite who's never done daytime before. I dont know. Hell, there are a shit load of writers online who can tell stories far better than the majority of the HWs we've seen over the last decade. Unfortunately, from everything I've read and heard, the genre really looks down their noses at websoap writers and such which, IMO, is a damn shame. |

I'd love for DAYS to pull a Harding Lemay and bring in an outside writer that's never done daytime before. |
