Ouch for DOOL...again.
Good job Dena, your winning with the teenyboppers, but losing all the other viewers. Still think Stx/Chan/Autism is going to skyrocket you to first?
|ElvisDiMera||Jun 26 2008, 11:12 PM Post #3|
Maybe when the writers stop writing the 18-34 women on the show as willing to spread for the first convict they see, they'll win some viewers back in that category. Until then, expect the freefall to continue.
I'm in that 18-34 group and all Days knows how to do lately is insult my intelligence and trash the characters within my age group until I could care less about what happens to them.
My friends and I don't have "friends with benefits" sex. We don't exchange sex partners like phone numbers. We don't try to steal each other's boyfriends. We don't think convicts and criminals are "great dads" and "hot studs".
|Kenny||Jun 26 2008, 11:14 PM Post #4|
You mean that's NOT the norm and that's NOT relatable?
Somebody better phone Dena. I volunteer! :)

Wow Days had better be glad Monday didn't count. they would have been really low.
Is that an all time low for Days in 18-49 and 18-34. Wow big drops in both.

|I guess the "Summer of Sex" Isn't all that it's cracked up to be ;)|
|Steve Frame||Jun 26 2008, 11:55 PM Post #7|
||I checked with Toups and Days tied it's low in 18-49. I don't think she keeps up with 18-34 but they either tied it or that is a new low for them. I don't remember Days being that low in 18-34 in a long time.|

Oh, but wait. We have a blackout coming up! And after that, a heat wave, followed by a rainstorm and a landslide. Expect reproductive fluids to be exchanged through it all.
|ginababe||Jun 27 2008, 12:09 AM Post #9|
LOL, at your "body fluids" comment... The only nekkid person I want to see is EJ, but that's just me..BTW, I love your Kristen banner, I miss ED.

You know what? I don't think Days is as bad as some. It's getting better IMO. Let me also say I expected a 1.9 in HH due to the preemption (and thank God that 1.5 didn't count or it will be worse) but there is a problem here and that is that Days still got 1.8's and 1.9's for the rest of the week, in a week where actual things happened. What does this say? Days was boring for far too long. It lacked direction for far too long and it still does in some respects. I know I said I would wait until summer's end but I won't because I think it's time to make a preemptive strike...fire Dena Higley!
While I'm sure she has been interfered with and she hasn't been as bad as before, it's not enough and rather then wait until the bottom falls out, they may as well make a move while others soaps are struggling. I think she will be gone by summer's end anyway. The signs are already there and this autism story has already set the stage for her failure. I just think they should make a move now so they can end the summer big and set up Fall. I do not like those dailies or demo numbers AT ALL. Atrocious.
The other soaps are no better. Soaps are just in big trouble and it's sad but we all knew it was coming. Now B&B is going down with Y&R it seems. This is past the point of depressing.
|Steve Frame||Jun 27 2008, 12:24 AM Post #11|
If Monday had counted Days would have had a 1.8.
I am really surprised that NBC didn't allow the preemption to count. I don't remember them stopping one from counting before.
On some boards they are wondering what these lower numbers might do to the renewal since no contracts have been officially signed yet. They are also saying rumors holding up the signing are over the cost of teh leasing agreements with NBC not being willing to pay as much as Sony says it has to have.
|Steve Frame||Jun 27 2008, 12:25 AM Post #12|
||One other thing to note - on Thursday GL beat both Days and AMC in total viewers.|
|PhoenixRising05||Jun 27 2008, 12:28 AM Post #13|
^I noticed that, Steve. Pretty big considering how awful GL is.
I'm shocked it didn't count either. I was expecting it to and for Days to get a low number this week. Maybe because it was shown at many different times or something they decided not to, figuring they knew it would be a low number. The whole golf event was special and happened without much warning so I can see it.
I don't think the renewal will be stopped because I think Corday can use sweeps to prove he can get the numbers up. I still think this renewal will come with a HW change. The last two did and held this up and I think now there will be a push for that. Whether or not that happens, I still think Dena is a goner by summer's end. I just sense it. I can also see this hurting Corday and Sony's licensing fee cause.

I don't get it! Days hasn't been THAT bad...I know it is bad, but not losing thousands of viewers bad...not 1.8 bad!
What has happened? All characters are interacting, space aliens aren't coming from the sky, vets aren't reading letters, nobody is being raped, Touch the Sky is done...
We were climbing for a few months there...we were at 2.3 two months ago!
I really don't get the rhyme or reason for this sucktitude!
|Steve Frame||Jun 27 2008, 12:35 AM Post #15|
I am going to post this here. I am not sure where to post it but it has to do with ratings overall.
Our local news did a special report today about certain shows that have become staples on some cable channels - mentioning that the cable channels cannot find anything to replace them with that works. And that ratings for the shows often do better than the competition on the main networks.
One of the shows was Law & Order on TNT which has been a staple show on their lineup for several years now. They also mentioned Golden Girls on Lifetime, Law & Order: SVU on USA, crime dramas like Matlock, Perry Mason and the like on Hallmark, and I Love Lucy on TV Land.
They said L&O and GG on their networks were the two longest though. They said both shows do exceptionally well to be on cable. And they have very high viewerships in older viewers according to the report.
As I have said before I think the worst thing that soaps ever did was to turn their backs on their older viewers. Older viewers were the staple audiences of soaps for years and years. They were loyal and I know like me it was from the older viewers (in particular my grandparents) that I learned to watch soaps. For a long time CBS seemed to be the only network interested in the older viewers in daytime, but I think even in the last year or so they have given up on them.
|Steve Frame||Jun 27 2008, 12:37 AM Post #16|
I don't think it is as bad as it was under Hogan and it is not really any worse than any of the other daytime soaps right now except for OLTL (it is far worse than them) - but it is bad. but that is not saying much. The only soap out of the 8 that holds my interest anymore is OLTL. the rest are flat out boring and I jsut don't waste my time watching them anymore.
|PhoenixRising05||Jun 27 2008, 12:41 AM Post #17|
^I'm even finding myself down at OLTL. I know I commented positively about Days this past week but that's only because the past two weeks has shown improvement over a month and a half of not one story moving or having direction. Days is just not doing enough right now and something needs to change. They need to at least be at a 2.0 next week or I think they are in trouble since we all know Wimbledon week will have ugly numbers and they will need to rebound the following week.
You just can't be boring in soaps right now. Boring=low numbers. You can even be a shitty writer writing shitty stories but if you have shit happening every week you can do reasonable well, which is sad but it's been the running theme behind the ratings the past 5 or so years.
|Steve Frame||Jun 27 2008, 12:45 AM Post #18|
I am not down on OLTL because even though there is not much happening plot wise there is still characters being true to themselves and such. That doesn't matter to a lot of people but for me it does. As long as there is good character stuff going on for me I am okay.
But the sad fact is that so many shows have ruined characters to the point that I just can't care about them anymore. I don't think after this last year I will ever care for Sami, Lucas or EJ again. SAme for Greenlee, Erica, Kendall and Zach at AMC. I like them in my version of AMC, but not on the show. And so many others I could mention. They are just ruined. And it is hard to watch stories about them anymore.
|PhoenixRising05||Jun 27 2008, 12:50 AM Post #19|
^Oh, I agree Steve. OLTL is still rather good. I just didn't find myself as into it. I don't know why. There was some great character stuff and I'm reallying enjoying the fallout from Nash's death. It just lost something for me. It's weird. I watched and liked what I saw but it didn't make me jump for joy or anything. I don't know how to explain it.
Your right about characters being ruined. I can't stand to look at Sami and EJ and Lucas I only enjoy away from her. Soaps have wrecked some pretty big characters in the past few years and it's a damn shame.
