For anyone interested, the link is here. It isn't just about Santeen and the influence of NBC.com:

thanks, tripp. when I made the "nagging" post, I was signing off to go to the funeral parlor (yeah, uplifting, huh?) and thought I'd forget when I came back, so I'm glad you found it.

But that´s the problem. They are supercouples. Whatever conflict they have is always against the character because up to the point when they´ve got together we we´re assured again and again they are perfect for each other, they totally understand each other and there is nothing what could ever come between them. It´s almost like a beautifull fairy tale which ends with happily ever after, but suddenly there is another chapter and we discover the princess is not at all nice but very shallow and spoiled and the prince lied her because he was secretly in cahoots with the dragon who is not dead at all. No matter what the show tries, people will be always angry because they were promissed happily ever after, not the real stuff.

I disagree. The Bo/Hope story with Zack was realistic and belivable to me because they have been shaky before. They made it plot driven and focused on Patrick and Chelsea when they had so much with Bo and Hope already. Their son DIED.

Daytime writers and executives are under the illusion that married people are perfect and boring. They're not. They fight, they mess up and they are complex. You just have to committ to telling the story and respecting the character and your audience. The audience isen't stupid.

As has already been said, this John story was enough in itself. There's already conflict. There's Marlena mourning her husband while falling in love with this new guy, there's John fighting to become someone he's not sure he wants to become. It's fine having John not wanting to become the old John, but you have to show the audience and the characters on the show why he doesn't. This was promoed as the great J&M love story, but frankly, it's a John story with Marlena peppered here and there sometimes, once a week or so before they send her off claiming Deidre's going on "vacation" (once was true, a week). She's his wife for cryin' out loud.

No problem.

And yes, Grandma sex. It never gets old typing that. It's how I got through the last couple of Chan days. When they were doing all that chan propping and so wrongly comparing Chan to Bope and Doug/Julie, chanting "Grandma sex" under your breath will take away the pain. It really will.

I so miss Bob Barker!
Sigh!
I'm still bummed that Rod Roddy died! He had the best suits, and I loved his voice! Some things are so hard to let go...
But yes, I guess it is kind of comforting to know that Bo and Hope are still together...but I feel they are a bit young to be settled and happily ever after already! But I don't want to see another Patrick Lockhart fiasco...although Patrick and EJ were just two of the finest men opposite each other! I didn't think the TV could handle that hotness!

sorry...so off topic here!

Question about EJ's apartment...is that Austin's old apartment, the one right across from Sami's? I believe Billie was the last person living there.

Supercouples are a DAYS staple. They're the show's bread and butter, so it would be stupid start mixing and matching with them all over the place. There comes a point when certain couples (not just on DAYS) are simply beyond triangles and it's ludicrous to think that after everything, they could actually be threatened by a third couple (like Bo/Hope, John (oldJohn, particularly)/Marlena, Jack/Jennifer, for examples). I'm not saying there shouldn't be any new couples, but it should be done in moderation, particularly considering DAYS's volatile fanbases. It shouldn't just be a game of musical couples.
I totally agree. The supercouples are beyond love triangles, and I think that makes it hard for less-talented writers to come up with stuff for them. Since Billie returned to the scene in 2002, no one truly believed she would end up with Bo. Likewise, no one expects John to wind up with Nicole or Ava.

Days should be using wild, outrageous love triangle storylines to make the young characters interesting and appealing. And they should be using history and characters to come up with situations for the supercouples.

BIN-GO. Exactly.

I mean, instead of bringing on yet another woman for John, which everyone knows won't work, why not use the history John and Marlena both already have to pull a story from? I mean, my fantasy storyline is Marlena being stalked, sent letters from someone claiming to know something she doesn't about her life. For example, the Alex storyline was crap. BUT, why not use that crap to start another storyline explaining all the loose ends. Alex was a plant by Stefano, the real Alex (as in Marlena's college sweethart or whatever), was John. John & Marlena were together as teenagers, in love and planning to be marry each other. John is killed in an accident (staged we find out), Marlena disappears, pregnant, and returned to her parents a year later, with no child in tow and no memories of what happened. "Hysterical amnesia" or whatever Alex called it is the medical reason the doctors give her parents, which is why it's in the charts. But that's just me.

Or heck, just now, bring Stefano back and have Stefano and Marlena work together for different reasons, sort of "keep your enemies closer" kind of thing, to get John out of where he is where they make a deal. Stefano gives John his memories back and Marlena will become his wife (which is what should have happened in December, not John returning). This easily gives all the big six (big four + S&K) characters a storyline that can have smaller storylines within it. Bo and Hope are working the case, Steve and Kayla are helping John while dealing with marital issues. Let them connect to take down Stefano, and to save their friend/wife.

Yes, I believe you are right. It is right across Sami's apartment. It was Austin's apartment, then Lucas' apartment, and after that Billie's place. Now that Billie has moved, EJ is there.

Actually, I don't believe that the apartment that Steve and Kayla are living in now is Austin/Lucas/Billie's old apartment. I think the only character that lived there before was E.J. (LoL, sorry, I'm just really anal about minute details like this  )

It's not the same apartment. Austin, Billie and Lucas lived in the one down the hall from Sami. EJ's is directly across from Sami's. There are (or at least used to be) 3 apartments on that floor.

Austin's apartment was directly across from Sami's. There was one on the end that Wendy and Jonah lived in, and I believe that was the one EJ moved into. I have the book A Tour Through Salem and it has the floorplan for the apartment building, lol
