Damn Pearly LOL.

FanODays makes some great points. That is the part that bugs me. The show was already in trouble with the WGA so the risk is even greater. The show is already under microscope yet some engage in this kind of activity? It just seems to weird because they seem more intelligent then that. I know some may not be clear on the rules and such but I would think an authority figure, like an EP, would be after being in the business for years.

Its a cop out for WGA to say they didn't have time to deal with the scabs during the strike because they were heading up a strike, its their job to do both so if they are going to penalize Days for this, they sure as hell better do it for their behavior during the strike.
Hey now, let's not borrow trouble...

^LMAO.

Did Sony already take that thread down? I'm actually kind of shocked it stayed up that long.
It's still there, it's just bumped down to page 2.
Ah. Ok. I must have missed it. I lurk over there and I didn't see it.

That is probably the reason why it's even still up.

It demands that whoever the non-Guild members are to stop writing the show or legal action will take place. It's a legal warning.
And where was this guild during the strike?

I smell a rat.
Um - they were heading up a strike?

And investigating scabs (which they still are).

And trying to work out a deal with the AMPTP.

I'm not sure I understand the question.
I'm questioning the priorities of the guild. The strike has been over for months yet they are still investigating? At this rate Days could be off the air before there is a resolution to this. Sounds more like a don't ask don't tell policy than anything else.

Its a cop out for WGA to say they didn't have time to deal with the scabs during the strike because they were heading up a strike, its their job to do both so if they are going to penalize Days for this, they sure as hell better do it for their behavior during the strike.
Sorry. I understand your question now.

Yeah, they were investigating scabs, and they certainly still are. It takes a long time to collect evidence and build cases against people. Many of the people busted in the '88 strike weren't actually relived of their jobs until '89 or '90. Right after strikes end, everyone keeps any kind of evidence under lock and key, but after months/years pass, things get more relaxed. People get careless. And evidence winds up in the WGA's hands.

It's also not a public investigation, so most times, we don't hear about it out here in audience-land. Someone just quietly loses their job a year later, just like any other fired writer, and nobody ever questions why.

Does that answer your question?

Wow, this thread is big. But honestly, I really don´t understand why. I really don´t see anything so scandalous. It looks like there were some rewrites, but not nearly as much as the source claims. Dena is angry beyond reason so she contacted WGA, and they yawned at it and put out the formal letter to get rid of her.

Now, the situation is still pretty the same. Dena Highley is gone, her team is probably accepting ideas from Ed Scott and his "diva" right now, and the show will look for a new HW, unless Corday will not convince her to return, but I think even he is angry at Dena right now because she is the one who made the case public.

Not to mention in the Days case it would be harder because it was Higley's husband and best buddy that was actually said to be working at the show so she probably wrote through them via phone calls, emails, etc and I don't see those two people so easily turning her in. Although, it is ironic how her husband was fired after the strike and Victor G was promoted shortly after and now Higley quit. Makes you wonder if the WGA is close to something.

Isn't there a Statute of Limitations that set a timetable as to when legal action can be taken?

I also don't think one altered script with notes by Ed and the actor is proof of Ed taking over the whole show and rewriting everything that comes to him from the writers.

Dena had to be involved up through the John and Ava sex because she crowed about it to SOD. These are her ideas. June and at least most of July were all Dena. There is no way Ed could rewrite the whole show by himself with a couple of actors. Most actors would refuse to write their own stuff. They wouldn't want to get in trouble or they would just know it's not their job and that they are better to do what they do best - acting - not writing.

I could see Deidre giving her input on the Stefano story and the stuff about Samantha since some of it is from over twenty years ago. No one on the writing staff has been involved with the show that long.

I think it's possible all of this is blown out of proportion and what we have is a couple of egos clashing and, personally, I think the person with the track record should win out. Ed Scott has over 20 years of proven success in an Executive Producer type role. Dena is a two time headwriter failure who is hated by actors and fans alike. The only reason she has this third job as a headwriter is Corday, and obviously, because she and her husband were willing to circumvent the rules of the strike in order to produce material for the show during it.

But we'll see how it shakes out. I just don't see that Higley is a victim in this because she seemed very much behind and proud of the 4th of July elevator episodes which were only a few weeks ago. If that was a rewrite, she had no control over, then why would she gush about it to SOD? Headwriters don't have to gush about their storylines. Leave it to the actors, the EP or Ken Corday. She was very proud of it and I think that's a huge reason why ratings are down is viewers not liking to see casual sex, long time beloved characters like Chloe suddenly acting like sluts and non-rooting couples in graphic sex scenes with their interlopers. To get these elevator scenes, she stalled the EJ & Sami love story which has a huge fan following, giving that fanbase nothing to hold onto in the weeks leading up to the elevator stuff.

She alienated fanbases and fanbases who are alienated TUNE OUT these days. In one episode, she alienated four separate fanbases. And most of you who watched OLTL while Higley ran that show know that that is right up Higley's ally and one of th reasons she is so hated. She pretends she cares about the fans but that never shows on screen. Actions speak louder than words as they say.
Great post ED! I think there are a bunch of egos going overboard here and it's only going to hurt the fans.

That's a good question, and one I honestly don't know the answer to. But I know it happened back in '88 many moons after the strike ended. There might be some kind of statute of limitations, but it's not less than a few years. The guild can revoke membership at any point if the evidence is substantiated.

I honestly want all of them that are involved in this mess to be punished. This will teach them a lesson to stick to their own jobs.
I may be asking a stupid question here.

Everyone is all up at arms about this actress. I have read Nelson's article and all it says is that she rewrote lines for her and her scene partners. Is that really something that is such a huge crime??? Tom C. specifically stated last night that rewriting of dialogue is NOT considered to be an issue.

Yes, there was a line that says, "[This star] has taken to telling others that she and Ed are the head writers." That line could mean a million things. The person could have been making a joke or someone with a grudge could totaly misinterpret and twist words.

I remember at the Emmy's last year, Mary Beth Evans said in a joking manner (with SN right beside her) to someone from ATWT that maybe she should have not left the show (ATWT won the Emmy). The next day some journalist reported how she was so unhappy with Days and took the comment totally out of context. People on the boards were reeming her. MBE that day put out a message on her board clarifying the situation - she was shocked that someone even overheard her and would misconstrue what she said in that manner. And if you have ever heard MBE talk about how happy she is to be done going to New York (it was very stressful for her and her family) and how happy she is to be close to home at Days with a character she loves and working with SN, you know she is not saying some BS.

I am just saying that you cannot take an isolated comment as is quoted by a third party in an article and construe this person's motivations or actions - and you can't certainly determine some truth by it.

So at the end of the day, this actress has been accused of rewriting lines - I am getting the jist of it? I have heard her accused of changing storylines and rewriting storylines for other characters- where does that come from?

Now I know what OBK said last night in the chat and not that I don't trust her, but those are unpublished third hand comments and interpretations. We could have a million of those things probably about every other actor on the set. I have heard worse things from similar types of stories and sources about other actors.

Everybody seems so upset at this actress so I am not sure if I missing something.

I am not saying every actor should rewrite their lines all of the time. But I would love it if every actor took the time to memorize, interpret and think about their lines and what they mean for their characters. I do think that should be part of their job.

Well, you not bugging me. Why the people in question would do this bugs me. It's stupid, especially when you consider the show was already in a mess with the WGA. I can see young actors or actresses doing it or people who are relatively new to the business but not people who've been around it for so long.
