Don't be surprised if Dena Higley is back but then slips out quietly in a few more weeks or months. A little bird has told me that a new head writer is already being considered, and she's NOT from Y&R. She would bring a certain, um, ethnic perspective badly needed on this show.

I really hope this is a member of the board joking around. LOL. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned ErikaCane4Life's name last night. What a nightmare of a flashback.

I would take Higley at her worst over another round of JER. And that should tell you something, considering how much I loathe Higley's shit.

This is what I don't get though, why would KC want to keep DH there? The ratings and demos are horrible. Plus she's being investigated by the WGA for being a scab!
i will still post i think its so much more free here than a couple of boards i know  and i agree with this...the last two months when so many viewers have stopped watching an enormous amount in just two short months...what 600,000 maybe more...i mean whoever is writing it this way needs to go, i dont care anymore who it is, i want to be excited again and wondering what my favs will be up to next.

If they promoted from within instead of hiring an outside writer, I would imagine Rick Draughon (Higley's current Co-HW) would get the HW job.
So what is the deal with RD? Is he any good? Could he bring Days out of the shitter if allowed to take over?

It's so bone-headed. Days was going UP until Higley was revealed as the HW. Now they've pretty much already lost the viewers that were gained at the start of this year?!

Eh, I doubt it, personally. Except for an online soap, he's never been a HW before, so there's really no past work to go on.

If Corday really wanted to fix this show, he'd start by announcing his imminent retirement.
i just wanna hear your opinion....who should be put in charge if god bless that ever happened???

Couldn't that be a positive though, especially if he is an actual fan of the show. He could bring a freshness and new ideas to the writing.

I have been watching this show since I was six or seven years old, with my mom. I can remember Marie as a nun, for Pete's sake. I remember Dee Hall's real sister actually on the show. I can remember Marlena married to Don Craig, and the SIDS s/l. I still download songs by Gloria Loring to listen to just for nostaligia. I can't stand the thought of Days going off the air.

I
Something like that is exactly what DAYS needs. However, I don't think anyone from the current team is that person or another recycled writer within the industry. DAYS needs some new/fresh blood, but with someone who is a fan of the show and has been a fan for a long time.

Someone fitting that job description would be rather hard to find, though, if you don't include anyone who's already worked for Days. Course, I don't know much about how writers watch each others' works. I would find it sad if a writer watched someone else's show, but not their own.
That's what I find sad. That a writer would be so egotistical that they wouldn't be open to ideas from experienced writers who have LIVED their characters or writers who won't watch the end product to see how it flows.

In a perfect world, DAYS's next HW would be both a fan and new blood. Unfortunately, the two qualities seem to be mutually exclusive.

What about Meg Kelly? Didn't she act as head writer between the time that Reilly left and Hogan appeared? I remember those few weeks being pretty solid.

She was only ever Hogan's Co-HW.

Well, if Days' days are numbered, time to break in a new aspiring writer who has watched since whenever. (Terry need not apply) :P

no matter who is writing for Days there is a problem - Day's is a writer's nightmare - why...

1. Supercouple Mania - what more can writers do with these supercouples? been there done that. If you break them up you are screwed, if you keep them together it's boring. Past the torch to the younger generation and the writers are accused of backburning the fan favorite couples and the younger more exciting couples get trashed.

2. History - man are the Days fans sticklers for sticking to history. Writer's who fail to know the history are blasted for re-writing history.

3. Tiny weeny Budget - no budget for sets, no budget for extra's, no budget for more breakdown and dialogue writer's, No big events, weddings are to be off screen or limited to 12 guests. No beds - characters have sex on couches in Salem. No real babies. NO BUDGET.... make it work.

4. New storylines cost money - so just make old storylines last FOREVER! And make sure that a day in Salem lasts 3 weeks saves on the costume budget.

5. Remember writers' are lower than dirt if the ratings are in the toliet - expect to be fired!

Beth Millstein was acting headwriter between Reilly and Hogan and I think she did an amazing job. Her stories were witty and fast moving and romantic. I would love to see her back in the top spot. I'll probably get completely attacked for saying this but I think a co-head writing team of Beth and JER would save the show as long as the producers actually let them write the show. By himself, JER does stupid things but he did seem more in tune with the fans - he just needed someone to toss out his really stupid ideas and inject a little wit and SPEED into his storylines and dialogue and I think Beth would do that.

BUT, the interims between Reilly and Sheffer did OK. And actually, Sheffer was doing OK originally. There are sparks and hints of goodness. I still think Corday has his fingers in too many pies at the wrong time. Perhaps he's not around, and things run smoothly. He shows up and forces his own will.
I don't know. They need to study the formula of OLTL. Granted it's slowed down some, but it's still heads and shoulders above this show.
It just might be too late, period.

I agree. The ratings during the interim between Reilly and Sheffer were terrific. Granted, that's not a total measure, but they were great. And, of course, Reilly being gone might have brought a lot of fans back. That, and Sheffer's big name.
