OK, after seeing Tuesday's show (finally) I wonder if the 'leak' (whoever it was), if this is true, said it was the 'diva' we all (by now) have heard it is, just to cover up THE REAL diva: Deidre Hall. Come on, what was with Marlena kicking butt and taking names for almost no reason? First, the one that REALLY sent up a red flag: chewing out Trent just because he skipped a girl in the goddamn coffee line. Some of her scenes with EJ were quite melodramatic and over-the-top too. I don't know; I just thought some things were off about that episode. As if they clearly were written to make the character more 'strong' these days, and a vibrant player.
You know what's funny? This episode had actually been posted here mid-June as a casting spoiler for "Evan", the guy behind the counter. All of his lines were posted, including the Marlena/Evan discussion about Trent and his ego. I think the point of the scenes was to highlight Trent's ego, of course at the expense of Marlena's character. Except this time, she was written as a bitch rather than as a doormat. Soon, maybe someone will get it right! I don't think she was written as a bitch at all. She knows Trent's story, and isn't about to mince words with him.
EDIT: Damn, I'm the only registered user reading this! (And there's only one guest). The thread really HAS died!

I agree that we shouldn't blend the cokehead and diva rumors. I have no reason to believe they're the same person (especially if the diva is who I think it is!) And I think it's fun just to speculate. I'm not damning Dee (my guess, after Tuesday's RIDICULOUS episode!), and I know this may all be just a rumor. But if you watch the show, it's fun to put two and two together and try to make your best guess on the 'diva.' It's like a much more fun, REAL version of "the gloved one."
I totally get the fun in speculating or even joking about the situation. That doesn't make me think twice. It is just when I see a bunch of real venom being aimed at this actress (which is really happening on a lot of boards), based on a rumor and a potentially very non-literal comment, that I get a little uncomfortable that the line between truth and speculation is getting blurred and forgotten in the hype of the overall story/scandal. And just a disclaimer, I am not a huge fan gurl of this actress . I think I know what you're talking about. I'm wondering if we saw the same posts. I couldn't believe it, particularly since that one poster was a HUGE advocate of a couple that this actress was involved in. Now you'd think said actress was Beelzubub himself. I still think now the whole thing was overblown. Just based on past history of the actress compared to the past history and behavior of Dena Higley. THERE'S the diva, right there.

I hate to go back a bit but I want to touch on this.
Just because a HW is paid to write does not mean they will get every character, family, or couple. You can watch all the clips and do as much research as you want but sometimes you still just don't get it. Just like many fans still don't get Steve and Kayla. Yes, if you were a fan of them in the 80's or just a Days fan back then, you get it (or a fair percentage does). More recent fans don't and no amount of clips, flashbacks, research, or whatever can change that. These writers are human and many often forget that. I'm sure they know who is important to the show and fans but some are just incapable and you can't just keep changing writers because every writer will have someone or some couple they just don't get it. There is no such thing as a perfect writer just like there is no such thing as a perfect person. No one knows it all and nothing can change that. Most writers will make an attempt at writing for a popular duo or character despite any difficulties they have because they know of the importance but the results often times aren't very good. Hogan's staff did that. When they took over, J&M were a mess. Both characters were destroyed by JER and many forget the wonderful stuff Hogan gave J&M in Fall 2006 (Smokey Robinson adventure, Italy and another wedding, a love scene). It was said that the story we got in Fall 2007 and winter 2008 was supposed to happen after EJ shot John but it got changed and Corday did not want J&M used. That is why the crappy dream thing was started and why they were backburnered for so long. At the end of their run, they went ahead with the idea they had wanted to initiate before and gave Marlena great stuff and then decided to make John into someone different because his character had been damaged by JER's run. Drake even confessed he hated what the character became. John and Marlena both were rejuvenated as characters and as a couple. Many fans who started disliking them began to like them again so Hogan and his team were cut just as they had things rolling. They still managed to work it all out despite all the interference and despite the fact they had a hard time grasping their characters.
Just because a writer can't write for a character or couple doesn't mean they suck. It just means they are human. I just hate the whole "I just want my couple on all the time or together or doing this or doing that or whatever" mentality. It's contributed hugely to why the show is in trouble. Too much fanbase catering because SOME fans take things to the next extreme and feel they are entitled to whatever they desire. Not everyone will always be happy. We all are different. It's impossible to please everyone and Days' problem is there is so much division among fans that one action pisses off a group who wanted something different. It's an endless cycle and someone is always getting disappointed. It doesn't matter who writes as more then half the audience will always be unhappy. I've seen it over the past decade or more. I hate that what used to be a desire by the consensus to just want a good show that entertains and provides solid, character-driven drama has turned into more or less many different groups wanting different things and SOME fans running around acting like they are entitled to things. Whoever said that Days has the most polarizing fans hit the nail right on the head. I think the only thing Days fans and soaps fans in general are entitled to is getting a show that does it's best to give as many fans as it can what they want (because it's impossible to give everyone what they want) and that entertains and provides solid drama that respects the fans' intelligence and respects the history of the show and characters. That is what fans are entitled to IMO. It's not pushing one couple or fanbase over another or dropping potential stories out of fear of fanbases and so on. It's doing what is best for the show and trying to put on a good show. It's taking risks that may or may not lead to rewards. It's taking hold of an audience and engrossing them in the world each show should create. Days and all soaps need to get back to that because that is what most fans want or what they should want. It is all this that should supercede anything else. DAMN IT, Tim! Quit making sense! Logic hurts my head, LOL

One thing I really don't get is why would the WGA opt to support Higley after she left the WGA during the strike? Wouldn't this serve as an example of why people shouldn't leave the WGA and why they need them in the first place? Is it just an honor system or does this story not make sense?

It seems that the majority of those who are pointing the finger at AS and being incredibly nasty about it are the fans who are pissed that their pairing didn't go their way (another reason why tptb should ignore all fanbases). Even if the rumors are true and Allie is some huge diva and demanding storyline changes, it still doesn't matter, because it's the producers and the writers who make the ultimate decsions. If they completely change directions because of what ONE actress wants, then shame on them.
It just boggles the mind that with Higley as HW, and Hogan, JER, and Langon(sp?) before her, with NBC making really stupid demands, AND with Corday running the show, people are blaming an actress for the current state of Days. As if the Days hasn't been in a steady decline for 15 years (Hey! AS has been on the show for 15 years! More proof!); as if there aren't dozens of people who outrank her when it comes story decisions.

I think the problem with Days is too complex to simply say, they should not listen to fan mail and/or message boards. A a matter of fact I don't think they listen to message boards at all. They should pay attention to ratings and trends and when they take dives or spike see what fan are saying they like and dislike.
It makes sense that they would look at the show and what was going on in January and February when ratings were increasing. See what fans were saying about the show and what they really liked. Then see what happened June up until now on the show and see what fans are saying. There are real answers to why people are tuning out and no it isn't just because J&M are not together. There is a common thread in many of the complaints on boards rigtht now about the mismatched pairings and the lack of direction for any s/l right now. I have to beleive that theletters from fans going to the studio are very similar.
J&M fans may be writing in about th lack of direction of the J&M s/l. Ejami fans might be writing in about the topsy turvy direction of their s/l. Lumi fan may write in about the complete 180 degree turn in their s/l. Phloe fans may indeed have this same complaint. Payla Fans ma be writing in about the complete and abrupt halt of their s/l with a lack of closure.
There is something in common in all of these complaints even if you ignore the fanbase where it is stemming from. The storylines for all of the couples and pairings are all over the place. In what universe did this sound like a good idea? Dena Higley, "I know lets separate all popular couples and the couples that aren't separated lets keep them off screen."
I don't mind when some couples are separated and going through angst and stuff but all of the couples are separated? This is just not creative on the writers part and me finally throwing in the towel along with many other viewers, is their fault not mine for wanting to watch an entertaining and good show! :soapbox:

Kill off Bo and bring him back with a new fun personality that snarks at all the Brady's and throws Hope's head into a door?
that would be fun. I also agree that robojohn is a keeper. Although he hasn't been as witty as usual. Must be low on coke in the studio. Coca Cola. true enough. I like it!

Well, if it's true that Nelson was used by the wiley Hagley, then I feel sorry for him. But that does happen. Biatch had everybody all tied up in knots. Smoke screen to divert attention from her blunderings. Throw in an earthquake to totally change the subject and voila! Mission accomplished. I still wish her ass would get kicked to the curb. Especially since I read a blog by Steve(Patches) sorry, should have bookmarked it. (It's old anyway) About how Ed Scott is always running around trying to improve the show, always tweeking diologue, and how much he appreciates it. So things that annoy Dena's ego may not necessarily annoy others. I don't think the actors have any respect for her after this, but I am just guessing. Nobody likes unflattering attention, do they? She was already whining on her blog. Blog=big ego & bad idea. You know those ads warning people that they are going to have to get a special antenna when everything goes hi-def? She may want to buy one for her own house. Maybe that will inspire her to watch the crap, er show that she puts out.
One more thing, I think a lot of John and Jarlena fans will be happy with some of the spoilers I have seen, if they are true. And done in a clever way. Damn it. It's the clever way that throws a monkey wrench into things.

I'm a little confused as I havent' been to the board in a few days. I got a PM saying that the rumor about AS was "she's blond and no loser". that tells me the opposite of what everyone is saying about her being the diva. Saying that she's "no loser" is telling me that it's NOT AS, but another blond. Have we not gotten anymore news from nelson?

Throughout this whole thing I have been suspicious of how this was leaked because it screamed of being a coverup with how it was so slanted to present Higley as the victim. Now I doubt that Higley herself contacted Nelson but I have to wonder who his source is and why they would do this. I've never trusted squealers.

You know after reading upcoming spoilers about Steffy...I am starting to think I may actually like the work of ED and PET....If Higs wrote what I saw the other day when I tuned in I am sorry, but she stinks and did need tweaking with her work. I have heard it said before that Higs is a lazy writer and to me much of what has taken place over the summer is very lazy storytelling....I can see why ED may have been desperate to stop her before she put us all into acoma like Steffy's.
I am actually feeling some hope about the coming weeks....But I am very SAD that Higs is not gone. The woman came in with a bang, then got bored and began to just twang. I think I'd prefer JER over her...And that mountain was one I was so happy to hear got moved out of Salem yrs back....but so far everyone else since has either pissed me off more, or bored me to death with their sls....Not good....Not Good at all.

If I were the headwriter of DAYS, there are three people I'd let re-write their dialogue - Dee, Suzanne, and Frances. Everyone else, read what is on your damn page. As an Executive Producer/Director, I think it would be great if *every* actor actually read through, interpreted and analyzed their lines. If the actor thought his or her character would say things differently or if a different phrasing would make sense, and the actor goes to the EP/diretor with that thought, I think it could only be a good thing. The writers are writing at a quick pace for a wide variety characters some of whom they may or may not know well. The actors are primarily thinking about the dialogue in the context of their particular character and they (more particularly the vets) probably have a better understanding of their character than some of the writers. How can it hurt if things are tweaked and improved?
After about 4 months of brainwashed Steve, I remember we were only going to get one day of "deprogramming" with Steve and Kayla. It was in the middle of sweeps and there were quite a few storylines and action things going on so the writer's wrote some decent stuff for S&K on that deprogramming day. Yet, I think Stephen and Mary Beth were aware of how important those scenes were given the previous 4 months. So they went to the director with some ideas for ways things could be tweaked to add more meaning. These tweaks and changes did not affect the storyline or the overall intent of those scenes but we got some great little moments like when Steve swings off the bed and pulls Kayla's chair in to kiss her or one of their more tender scenes where Steve has his laying in Kayla's lap on the bed at the end, and certain references in the dialoguewere added to make it more personal and meaningful. Much like how KA made some suggested changes to John's eulogy making it less "generic" in Tom C.'s words.
I remember when Thaao made an appearance on I Wanna Be a Soap Star. They were talking about rehearsing and learning lines. He made some reference to how quite a few people on Days don't even go through those steps - and the result is a flat and boring performance. I have heard other actors make some comments along the same lines about how they were surprised how little rehearsing and running of lines occurs. Cue cards were even used by some. I would think that Ed Scott did bring a different attitude about these things when he came on - and I did see an improvement in the peformance for some of the actors.

I am actually feeling some hope about the coming weeks....But I am very SAD that Higs is not gone. The woman came in with a bang, then got bored and began to just twang. I think I'd prefer JER over her...And that mountain was one I was so happy to hear got moved out of Salem yrs back....but so far everyone else since has either pissed me off more, or bored me to death with their sls....Not good....Not Good at all.
i agree if ali did take part in this i would not blame her one bit, especially if it gets me being able to tune in every single day again, i really miss my show, but as a fan i want to be heard. shutting down the mailroom and ignoring the very people who make or break you doesnt seem like a great idea, if its true and ali made changes and in two weeks from now i get ej and sami having an intimate moment i will not only applaud her i will encourage it to continue...no matter how unethical it might be....the person writing the last two months has created a ratings fiasco...they needed to be stopped...whoever it was... I'm fairy certain that wouldn't be the direction Ali would take the story if she had any say in the matter.

If Nelson was used by Higley to cover her ass and divert attention from her horrific writing then I feel for him. Iita! :frown:

I agree, well based on that interview she did in 2007, the one where she pointed out Jack didn't end up with Kayla and what not. I don't see it on the site anymore, but you know the interview of which I speak.

I find it funny that fans in here are saying for them to stop reading message boards, to shut down mail rooms, and stop listening to the fans so much.
And then the ATWT fans turn around and are ready to lynch Chris Goutman because he said he doesn't listen to the fans.
Go figure. No wonder these execs don't know whether to scratch their watch or rewind their butt.

Lol I know right, Days, who caves into message boards/fan mail too much, and ATWT, who doesn't listen to the boards because they acknowledge that they're only a tiny percentage of viewers, so the two shows are polar opposites in that regard... and the funy thing is both shows are in the toilet ratings wise.
