Any hints. It is behind the scenes or about the actors or both? or will it matter?

WOW! I go to bed with 9 pages and come back to 24 pages! I don't really know what to say but I am on the edge of my seat so to speak waiting to hear what all went down.

My guesses....

not likely....Frances Reid was fired(just thinking of lack of integrity and this would totally prove that, but what would that have to do with Y&R)

more likely than the above.....Corday got back into town and begged Higley to stay and she unforunately agreed after stating only if Scott goes, but at the same time was lying to his face waiting for Ed Scott to be fired first and then telling Corday to fuck off after Corday told her Scott was fired. So maybe we are losing Scott and Higley from DAYS. But at the same time while Corday went on vacation Scott has been plotting to bring more over more from Y&R and was hearing Higley was going to be let go, so some from Y&R might have agreed to follow Scott to DAYS and now that Scott might be gone, those writers or whoever might have decided to leave Y&R for DAYS has nowhere to go. Who knows I am just trying to think of ways this would be shocking.

Come on Nelson/brimike/anyone...spill!!!!

Both Errol & Toups posted that got the little birdy about this on Friday but chose not to report it until they got proof. They both seemed surprised but happy that Nelson broke the news. They said it was a ballsy move though.

***********************************

As to Ed Scott, I love Ed and I want him back at Y&R - so if he went back I would be happy even though I am not really watching right now.

**********************************

As to the Sony thing. I will admit that Ken Corday is not the producer that his mother or his dad were, but I have to use the argument here that so many use for the writers. Ted or Betty Corday never had the interferance that Ken has had. When NBC daytime ratings began tanking in the 80's all the NBC shows got messed with a lot from NBC who has put so many demands on the shows.

When Days finally goes off the air, NBC will have as much to do with the reason as fans, Ken Corday and any of the writers do.

P&G and NBC both interfered with AW so much that no producer or writer could be successful there, and Ken Corday has to deal with writers who won't do what he wants them to do plus he has to deal with NBC's demands and Sony's interference too.

When the ratings were up in the 70's, the only time NBC or anyone ever stepped in was when William J. Bell wanted to make Mike Horton gay and Harding Lemay wanted to make Michael Randolph gay on Another World. They put the kibosh on both of those, but they pretty much were happy as long as ratings were up.

With all that no matter what kind of producer you are, you have a problem. Ken Corday is like the writers he hires in that he is not a yes man. ABC has too many yes men who just do whatever Brian Frons says and goes on.

As I has said before, Corday, Sony and NBC need to reach some kind of understanding. There are too many visions on this show. Someone's has got to be the prevailing one and go with it.

Facing reality Ken Corday is not going to step down. If he and Ed Scott can't agree on things, then to me Scott needs to go. There is no way a show can survive when the people behind it are fighting. Since Corday isn't going anywhere, Scott needs to go back to Y&R IMO.

*****************************************

As to the Douglas Marland, I highly disagree with part of that statement.

Days needs a writer like Douglas Marland. He is a writer that has been interfered with before. He is talented enough that even when he is told to write something that wasn't his idea, he knew how to do it. He knew how to deal with producers who were hands on. A writer like him has the talent and the know how to make a story interesting even when it is not his story.

Days needs a writer like that. Writers like Higley, JER, and Hogan Sheffer are too petty, immature, and lack the talent to write a story when it isn't theirs. They are just like Ken Corday in that if they can't do it their way then it is not going to be done right. That is the reason that I gave Hogan no credit at all. Even if he was interfered with - a man with his "supposed" talent should have been able to make the stories interesting with the people he could use and the stories he was ordered to write. At Days he proved 100% what I felt all along - he got 3 more Emmys on his mantle than he deserves.

*****************************

As to the other part of the Douglas Marland comment - even though Douglas would be successful writing for Days, he couldn't make the fans happy. Days fans in a big way, but pretty much most modern day soap fans can't be happy anymore for very long. Pretty soon every writer makes them unhappy at some point. I am sure Douglas Marland would do something very quickly to make the fans mad - one thing about it he writers for the whole cast.

Now Sherri Anderson I can't say that for her. She was bad at writing for the older crowd - thus the reason that DePreist, Anderson & Falken Smith got rid of Doug & Julie. They used the excuse that fans didn't want to see the older couples - and preferred the younger couples. Also they felt Doug & Julie had been outplayed.

Doug & Julie had not even been together long when they were written off. I think out of all the years that Doug & Julie were front burner on Days, they were actually together about 3 years total - the rest of it they were pining for one another, divorced, married to someone else, etc.

So if Doug & Julie were played out for them then, I highly doubt she would feel any different about Bo & Hope or John & Marlena at this point.

All good ideas ...

It could be that NBC said they were going to renew, got Higley on board, Ed Scott thinking that it was a done deal was bringing more people from Y&R to come over and they, NBC, pulls the plug .... now that would be a severe lack of integrity on NBC's part! Plus he could send a shock wave thru the industry.

Maybe the soap writers and producers made an alliance to destroy soaps forever (and that's why for years soaps have been like crap) and now it's all out! :D

Seriously, this sounds horrible. Maybe Sony has had enough and they're canceling DAYS AND Y&R? LOL

I refuse to take any of the blame when Days gets cancelled. I've been far more loyal than they deserve.

I see your point with this statement, but I don't necessarily agree with it. I'm happy to at least have Ed Scott on the show fighting for at least a little bit of creative decency than to have some idiot who's just going to roll over for Corday and accept mediocre bullshit on a regular basis. You do have a point with the behind-the-scenes struggle though. There comes a point where the stress of the situation begins bleeding over on-screen and at that point, a change has to be made. Losing Scott in favor of some weak Corday puppet is the wrong change, though.

I just had to pop over here to join the celebration. I knew if anybody would be as thrilled as me it would be D.R.
She "quit", remember? So they are allowing her to leave with dignity. She's a bad writer who doesn't watch her own show. She destroys character development and pisses of actors when they suddenly have to read lines that would never come out of their character's mouths. She is the bane of my existance. The ratings are in the shitter especially the one she was supposed to be good at getting, the young girls. Guess what? Even they are sick of her turning every female into a simpering wimp. Adios biatch. Have your things cleared out by the morning. *praying to Soap Gods that this is true* Summer of love my ass. Good Riddance!

Yeah, wasn't March supposed to be the month of the big announcement? Here we are, almost five months later... and we've still heard nothing.

After being giddy yesterday learning that Higley quit, I am now very worried and afraid that my favorite soap by a mile could be announcing that it will be off air come 2009. Waiting until tomorrow is going to kill me! If DAYS or NBC does announce DAYS is gone, the board will no doubt crash.

I sure hope Nelson thinks 12:01 am is tomorrow and I can't wait to see how many of us are checking to see if he breaks the story at 12:01 am!

2009? At this point, I'm thinking they are done filming and DAYS is done after Olympics or something...

i'm going to get stones thrown at me, but i'd be okay with Days ending next year...No matter what any writer has done the past 10 years, there have been so many fans that have hated the show..And i don't think thats ever going to change..No writer will ever be able to please the majority of fans...Maybe Days just needs to go out while their still somewhat on top, which they aren't anymore..

Sadly though, i would hate to see all the actors lose their jobs..And I've watched Days for 21 years, so i'd probably suffer withdrawals without it..
