Who would even want write for DAYS after the Brash/Cwikley, Highley, Railly, Sheffer, Highley fiasco. The different writers already tried everything from total campy show to ultra realistic character driven storylines. Nothing helped.
Corday has been the problem for most of the people you've listed.

Though Dena Higley has proven over and over again how untalented she is as a writer. But who knows, maybe now that she's unemployed she'll actually start watching the potential shows she wants to work for, and will get a clue how to write for them if anyone else is stupid enough to hire her.

Looking at how well promoting from within has worked for One Life to Live, I'd almost suggest that, cept I dont trust anyone they have on staff to do a decent job at it. Victor Gialanella is Higley's right hand stooge, Rick Draughton's dialogue has always been unimpressive, most of the others were groomed under some of the show's darkest eras (Langan/Reilly). Is Beth Milstein still there, or was she one of the ones they fired to give this scab the job?

Hopefully they dont go for the recycling of daytime's washed up head writers routine. Harmon & Brown, Reilly, Latham, and McTavish are all currently unemployed ... be afraid.
Ed Scott, if you are reading this, a warning: If you hire James Reilly back as headwriter, THIS LONGTIME VIEWER WILL BOLT. I am serious. I AM NOT SITTING THROUGH JERk A THIRD TIME.

If you hire Jack Smith, that's a negative mark too. I'm not crazy about his work either.

Josh Griffith is your best choice. And no, I'm not Josh's agent.

I don't think Ed Scott would ever willingly hire JER (if he even had a say). Fortunately, as stupid as Corday is, he hates JER, so the only way I think JER would ever return would be if NBC forced it again (or if Corday completely flipped out and started panicking).

Apparently he was a mod at SC back in 2002 and he was very rude to some of the members there and he made it perfectly clear that he hated Philip, John and Marlena and that he was pro-Broe and pro-Brady.

Wow, that's not how I remember things at all. As one of the leads in the Phloe campaigning, I had lots of interaction with RD, personal e-mails, he gave us lots of help, and this never came across to me at all. Some of the really good Phloe in the past (before Phorgan crap started) was written by RD. He seems to get them.

well i will just say i am cautiously optimistic...i mean i wish they would just promote up rick draughon until they find a replacement...i dont have exact figures but i seem to remember the HH for the 18-49 demographic being up around 2.2 or 2.3 in may!!! and the lastest figure is 1.0, i fall into that group and havent watched regular since the end of may, thats over a million viewers in that group alone that have tuned out in the last two months, something had to give...

Even if DAYS got a writer who wanted to tell more realistic stories, fans would be up and arms screaming for campy and romantic stories. DAYS has an identity crisis, the show never seems to know what it wants to be.

A part of me would love to see the beloved Sheri Anderson get the job, mainly because at some point she would piss of the fanbases like every other writer has over the past 10 years..and her fans would turn on her so quickly and want her fired..

I hate to be a balloon pricker, but need I remind anyone of this little story?

In late 2003, the magazines and message boards were buzzing that GL Executive Producer John Conboy was fired. Only to find out days later that things had changes or the rumors weren't true and Conboy was back in.

Granted, Conboy was out a few months later, but my point remains. Let's not celebrate until we have the details.

I would like that too. Seriously, name a former HW who has returned and repeated with another golden era? They all seem to return and have subpar reigns at best.

This is HUGE news. Someone else mentioned it but I had heard rumors that she would be fired in August and that NBC was pushing for it (they hated the bad PR with the strike and all and Corday's attempts to promote Higley via her blog and all did not help at all). This is shocking to me. Perhaps Higley heard that it was going to happen and did this to save face. Whatever the case, the writing was on the wall. She was clearly unhappy. She hasn't written a blog in awhile either. I think Scott and others pushed the Green stuff on her and the autism thing was forced on her too. She didn't seem happy about Stefano returning either. That seemed to be done because fans were pissed. I listened to Joe's Daytime Confidential interview and he never really mentioned the writer so you could tell things might be in a state of confusion. I knew once she wrote that blog entry about a story idea being rejected she was done. Not only that but Draughon was promoted shortly after. It was all too similar to who Ron was promoted at OLTL and shortly after took her job and it was just like how Higley got the co-HW job and shortly after Hogan was gone at Days.

I don't think Corday will be able to get her back. Sony would be pissed if he got rid of Scott to please Higley. Not only that but the cast and crew love him. If Scott leaves, some of the cast and crew might as well. If NBC wanted her out, I have to wonder if maybe it came up in negotiations. I've been saying all along I had a feeling the HW situation played into negotiations. I'm sure money did too but with the recent ratings and fan upset, it had to come up and I bet that may be why things have dragged on. I think NBC may be pushing for Draughon and I say give him a shot. Things have improved since he began being credited. He's new blood at least.

I think Ed Scott will be fine. With Sony and the cast and crew backing him, he's safe IMO. I think Corday will have no choice but to let this go and Dena seems pretty miffed so this may be it for her.

As for replacements, I'm not good with Griffith. I say give Jack Smith a shot but I had thought he didn't get along with Scott. Maybe I'm wrong. I say let Draughon take the position on a trial basis and see how he does. My dream pairing would be Tom Casiello and Beth Milstein. Beth is great at character interactions and with that and Tom's ideas, it could be a great combo and it's fresh blood.

We'll see but this definitely is interesting. It will be fun to watch unfold and very worrisome because, as King said, it could end up being worse. I just hope this is true. Yes, I've enjoyed the show this year and have seen improvement of late but I still think this is a good move. I just hope it ends up happening and Corday doesn't fuck up by pissing off Scott or Sony or something. I just worry he will push too hard for Higley and mess things up even more.

I also love how he always seems to be on vacation when something big happens. When there is a controversial firing or something, he always seems to be away. It's almost like he expects it and doesn't want to deal with it until the dust settles. Oh, how I wish we could get rid of him and leave Scott in charge fully. Watch how good things become if that happens. I wish we could at least limit him to business decisions but he fucks those up too LOL.

Good job breaking this news, Nelson. It's great that you did it on a weekend too. It's weird how all the big Days stuff always seems to break on weekends. It happened earlier this year with all the firings too LOL. Please keep us informed of this and update us. We are all very anxious LOL.

I definitely believe this is true. Usually, where there's smoke, there's fire. And we've sure as hell seen enough smoke in the last month or so.

So basically, not to be crude, but it sounds to me like Higley cut and run. She came in, laid a stinky bomb and then took off so she doesn't have to smell it.

Meanwhile... days fans continue to suffer.

I'll be right back, I have to go find my party hat and a big bottle of champagne!
Have enough for two?

WOW.

I had the same reaction as Kenny did about the Ed Scott issue when I read Nelson's article. I have read nothing but good things about Ed Scott from actors, crew members, critics, former colleagues at Y&R... virtually everyone has something positive to say about him. So it's zero surprise to me that Higley clashes with him.

I forget who made the point about her quitting in the middle of the autism storyline, but that's an excellent point as well. Things must be really bad if she's willing to abandon that.

My own guess is that she's quitting so that she won't have to face getting fired yet again from a head writer job. Hope no one will be stupid enough to hire her on another show.

^ I still doubt the autism story is her's. She seemed very uncomfortable with it.

Wow...Nelson. I'm actually afraid now of where this is going. Is Days trying to steal someone from over there? I'm dying to know LOL.
