But that's just the point, Kirk. She wouldn't have written something as good, LoL.

As someone on SON pointed out (I didn't even pick up on this the first time I saw the ratings), there was a ridiculously huge increase in the MALE demographic for Days. Which means (to me at least) chances are, people just left their TV's on.

I find it hard to believe hundreds of thousands of men suddenly decided to watch Days last week because they heard it was getting good again.

LOL!!

And Corday thought Dena could write for women. This isn't the first time the male demos are rising while the female demos decline.

But thats funny! What if we get a 2.0 for male or something? LOL

Yeah I didn't explain that too well, LOL.

I just meant no matter who wrote for DAYS last week, the ratings would have risen significantly. It's a shame though any new viewers DAYS gains from the Olympics will be gone with a quickness after watching a few weeks of Higley's mess.

Very interesting observation, and probably correct.

Days will not sustain.

That's true. The ratings increase itself obviously had way more to do with the Olympics than anything else. Still, it's nice to see DAYS gain on such a great week.

Can we just be happy for the positives right now..Days had a huge ratings increase during the Olympics all across the board..Yes they will probably drop, just like NBC will drop as a whole after the Olympics are over..But Days deserves this raise and i'm happy they got..And any raise a show can get is big news right now, especially .5...I bet ABC or CBS are wishing they had the Olympics right now..

Oh, I'm definitely happy for them. They needed it (especially after last week's ratings didn't do what they hoped they would with Steffy's return). Just trying to be realistic. Also, this isn't a Sweeps period, so it won't affect the advertising rates. Which is a shame, since that would go a long way in putting NBC's minds at ease... if they could raise the ad rates and pull in more money.

^ I agree. I'm totally happy that DAYS got such a big increase. But why get my hopes up that it won't go right back to where it was when we know it will?

If Days really wants to grab some viewers and hold them, they need to be pulling some big shit out of their asses and quick. This mediocre, hum-drum forgettable garbage isn't going to cut it.

Exactly. It's just plain suicidal for a show that's already on the brink of cancellation to be telling ho-hum stories that few viewers even care about to begin with. We don't have to have explosions or plane crashes every week, but give us something, ANYTHING to keep us tuning in. JER, in his first run, was a master at that. Even when there weren't any real big events, you still had to tune in to see what was gonna happen next. DAYS needs to be like that again, where every day is important in some respect.

So do I understand this right, people here are pretty much saying that if the Olympics had been the lead-in to an infomercial, then the ratings for the infomercial would have been exactly the same as these Days ratings?

I think it's a combination of the Olympics and a fact that Days actually improved last week. Those two things combined allowed for the bump, IMO.

An infomercial wouldn't have gotten the same ratings because Days already has a built-in audience, no matter how small it may be. Infomercials don't, LoL.

Oh ok, thanks, so we're agreeing, lol. I was thrown off by the 'people just left their TVs on' posts. There is a concept of shows failing despite a strong lead-in, and I think if an infomercial would have been on afterwards, many of the Olympic viewers would have turned their TVs right off. (Substitute 'Tinda Lao' for 'infomercial' if you'd like, and you'll see my point.) The fact that there was an increase was a given, but I do not think the increase would have been as much had the show not been as strong as it was last week.
