I don't blame Corday for getting rid of Scott. After what Scott did, he doesn't deserve to be working for DAYS anymore, maybe not in the business at all.

I don't think he should be keeping Higley as head writer either. She's proven time and time again that she is not a good writer. Why does she get ANOTHER chance? I'm sick of it.

I can't wait to see these changes Tomlin's going to make.

I was 50 new assholes last year for bringing up track records in reference to writers.

But with that said Hogan had just as mixed of a track record as Dena has and we see how that turned out with Days. Both have about the same percentage of hit and miss stories - so I have no doubt that Dena will fail just like Hogan did.

But even though I am not watching right now I hope that Dena will pull it together.

When Gary comes on it will probably be enough for me to give it a chance. I loved Gary's work as producer at OLTL and I am not usually a fan of camp but I enjoyed his version of camp at OLTL.

Until Ron's stuff at OLTL, Gary's full stint as Producer there is the last time I enjoyed OLTL for a long period of time. I am hoping that he can make Days enjoyable again.

Even though OLTL was campy under Gary, there was good stuff using characters and their motivations too. IT was a nice mixture and blending of camp and character - so I am excited for him coming to Days and excited about Days for the first time in a long time.

If Gary can help make Dena Higley's flat and boring stories interesting by tweaking/inserting some camp into her work, then by all means, do it.

JER signed on OVER five years ago now.

There is no way DAYS is still paying JER. No one can convince me otherwise.

Even if he signed a five year contract, it would have been over by now.
I absolutely agree Mike!

No way Corday is still paying JER. He may have paid him through his current cycle when he was let go originally, but no way he's still paying him 2 years later. I just don't believe it.

The one thing that makes me confidant about Gary is that even though I know he had a bit more history at OLTL, and while I know many hated this story, he and Chris(and Lorraine Broderick too, but still, many say it was mostly him and Chris) were able to produce a huge story with Natalie/Jessica and make it last, but still be fun and eventful, for way over a year. They recognized alot of history, and even remembered small stuff like Viki's doctor who delivered Jessica being named "Dr. Balsom".

Sure it was a big re-write, but I didn't mind since they were able to make it fit as much as they could. They also had all of Asa's ex-wives briefly return, and those fun little episodes, amongst so many other things. Like their stories or not, they prove that they can tell those huge, long-standing stories.

Wow.

Corday reeks of asshole.

He basically says that the only he reason he hired Ed Scott was because of Hogan, while Tomlin was the #1 choice all along. I'm not sure if I buy that, but either way, I think it's sort of a slap in the face to Ed.

As for Dena, it scares me that she'll be given free reign now. It pisses me off that he excuses the shitty writing of the last several months on the fact that she was "too afraid to go with a vision" for fear that Ed wouldn't like it or some shit. Kiss my ass, Corday. If she wasn't a hack writer to begin with, the more talented execs wouldn't feel the need to shoot down her shoddy bullshit stories at every turn.

Ugh. Why is that woman so difficult to work with? In order for her to write decent shit, it's as if she has to have the entire staff fired and replaced with people who are actually willing to kiss her ass. Otherwise, she's unhappy and makes work miserable and writes shit stories. That's the way it sounds to me, anyway. And it's bullshit. Corday shouldn't have to fire people just because Dena blames her shoddy work on them. "I can't write with so-and-so working here! It's just too tense!" Then QUIT, damn you!

Corday's an asshole. I hope he's reading this too. He probably is. Hey, Corday... I'm ashamed to share my name with you.

I TOTALLY agree with you! The Natalie/Jess thing just WORKED IMO! I enjoyed that period at OLTL along with Asa's many exes and the Alex/Gabrielle wedding bait and switch!! I was down about the change at first but I'm guardedly optimistic!

Drake's Back!!

I hope this comes to pass!! I would love to come back after Labor Day to the wonderful news that Days has been given a new contract! If Days got a new 5 year contract that would be the best news ever! I really hope this isn't just a load of bull. I am actually enjoying the show more than I have in the past 4 months. I feel like the stories are going in the right direction and I just want it to continue! Let's hope this all come true!!! Come on Ken Corday...work your magic or whatever and get DAYS a new deal! Come on Dena...prove us wrong and show us that you can write!

Corday ALWAYS tells the truth...even when he's on vaca and firing the freaking show runner and his actors are openly, on the record disgruntled and saying the wrong person was fired and their characters have been written into a shithole since Feb. (They even blog about the matter, speaking of the chaos, or claiming to know nothing of the chaos...or giving their thoughts when they are not at banks, pole dancing classes, random leather photo shoots).

Corday really is something else...

LMAO. What a dipstick...

He chose Higley’s. “I feel very positive, only because Dena will not be second-guessing herself now,” notes Corday. “She will not pulling punches to make anyone happy but herself and the viewers. The big story she has in place is great and she wants to turn that loose right now. It’s wonderful.”

Days: Scott out, Tomlin

A week after celebrating his one year anniversary as co-executive producer of Days of Our Lives, Edward Scott was abruptly let go and replaced by veteran actor/writer/producer Gary Tomlin.

"Everyone was shocked. We all loved Ed," says one cast member, noting cast and crew were told "Nothing. Ed was just escorted out of the studio by the security guards on Friday, August 15th."

Although low ratings probably contributed to the change, insiders suggest the reason could have been an escalating power struggle between Scott and head writer Dena Higley, who accused the producer of re-writing her work. Sources claim Higley went so far as to walk off the set and file a grievance suit with the Writers Guild of America against Scott. When contacted about the alleged suit, Greg Mitchell of the WGA west coast responded, "We have no comment."

A Days' source confirms word around the set was that Scott was angling to implement a change in scribes, and notes, "He was hoping to bring in some of the writers he'd worked with before at Y&R."

In a statement, executive producer Ken Corday addressed the move; "It's in the best interest of the show's future to make this change, in order to improve Days both visually and emotionally. We at Days are grateful to Ed Scott for all his contributions and amazing energy over the past year. Gary Tomlin brings a long, successful history of being an actor's producer and a writer's producer to our cast and crew, and the viewers will see the immediate results of this change for the better."

Tomlin, who served as executive producer at Sunset Beach and One Life to Live, expressed his delight in the same statement. "I'm very happy to be back at Days, where I began behind the scenes in the early 80s. It's wonderful to be given the opportunity to work with Ken Corday."

To be honest, that's standard procedure in a lot of businesses for someone's last day (especially if they've been fired). I think it's a safety and security measure, but I'm not sure. I've worked in a lot of places where if a member of management leaves, they always change all the locks and the safe combination, even if the departing employee leaves of their own accord and on good terms. It's simply something you do. However, it could also signify that there was something else going on BTS that no one knows about and has never come out, too. I wonder if Scott was trying to take *complete* control of the show, even over Corday. Granted, that's only speculation, but if it were true, I could more clearly see why Corday gave *him* the boot instead of Dena.
