Early Ratings: via Media Week

In week two news, the CW’s 90210 took a hit, with a last-place 2.8/ 7 in the overnights at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was down by a significant 28 percent from the 8-9 p.m. portion of the week-ago series-premiere (3.9/ 6 on Sept. 2). Considering most new shows drop in the vicinity of 10 to 15 percent in the overnights in week two, this is very disappointing. 90210 led into the series-premiere of Privileged, which almost fully maintained its 90210 lead-in with a 2.6/ 4. That’s promising. Oddly, Privileged is reminiscent of a former big hit on the WB: Gilmore Girl.

Damn. They dropped two million viewers?

Privileged is getting horrible reviews.

But I will say for the second week, in Chicago it was preempted for the Cubs game. That is a major market not figured into the time slot. We got it at 10:30. I don't think that will be the case next week.

Yeah, I am sure it is a number of factors, but I am sure the bad reviews didn't help.

I watched it on DVR last night and the sound was all fucked up..it didn't match up...So that was rather distracting...I like the actress that plays Silver the best..But Naomi sucks...The actress worked better on Nip Tuck, because she does over the top well..But the girl can't do emotional scenes...I was laughing as she was crying in the car...

And i can't stand Lori Laughlin in this role, i do like Rob Estes though...

Basically, i can't decide if i like the show or not..so i'll give it a few more weeks..

If the ratings keep dropping like this, they'll probably have to cut some of the cast to keep it on.

Rob Estes, Jennie Garth, Shannen Dougherty, Lori Loughlin and Tabitha, whose names escapes me, can't be cheap.

I even think Naomi and Annie might cost a pretty penny

'90210' Scoop: Garth's Staying, Doherty's Leaving!

Just like Brandon, Dylan, Steve, Colin, and Matt before them, 90210's producers just can't get enough of Kelly. So, my sources tell me, they've signed Jennie Garth to appear in five episodes on top of the six to which she originally agreed.

So now we're gonna get the Kelly-Brenda rematch we've all been waiting for, right?

Erm, no. Though Shannen Doherty may return later in the season, for now it appears that the first four episodes she signed on for will also be her last (the second of those episodes airs next week). "They asked me to do a lot more," she says, but "I'm in the middle of pitching a show, [so] I couldn't commit to more than [I did]."

That being the case, the powers that be might want to reconsider ponying up the big bucks to get Tori Spelling back on board as Donna. Though the update's second eppy kept it Tuesday's highest-rated show with women 18-34 (2.9/8) and women 12-34 (2.5/7), its overall numbers took a hit opposite stiffer competition, including the premiere of Fringe.

What do you think? Does 90210 2.0 need Garth and Doherty to make the grade? Or are the new characters appealing enough to make the grade on their own merits? The comments section below is yours for the filling. (Additional reporting by Jessica Shaw)

I don't think they would cut the cast....they would just drop the show.

Some of them have potential, but as a whole? The answer is probably no. They are not.

I knew it would drop. No big surprise there. Every new show drops. The real test is next week's ratings.

I enjoyed the episode for the most part. It really feels like old 90210. I know most will disagree. While I do find some faults, the acting isn't the greatest and the plot-lines are a tad fluid, it has the "feel" of old 90210. You guys call it cheesy but seriously, so was BH90210.

I thought the Naomi/parents thing was handled okay until the end. It just fell flat for me. Silver should of been more of a focus. I loved bitchy Kelly with Jackie. THAT was the Kelly I remember. Not the one I totally love, but the one I remember.

Thank God Shannen is back next week. Sucks she isn't doing anymore episodes right now.

And this is why I love Brian Austin Green:
http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2008/09/brian-austin-gr.html

He seems so genuine and down to earth and he's not dissing 90210. Not that Priestley and Perry aren't, but I really hate their attitude of more or less saying "I'm too good for this." Is Priestley REALLY that big of a director now that he's "booked until 2009" (per his words in an interview). Perry I can somewhat understand, I suppose. He at least has decent gigs. I still say he'll cave at some point and appear.

I really wish this damn should would get Carteris back and use Hannah! I think maybe they are holding them back until later (hopefully) ...

^^^ LOVE B.A.G. and think he's awesome on Sarah Connor Chronicles. And yeah, he's always been really cool about 90210. Priestley and Perry have both had a bit of an attitude about it, but I can't say I really blame them. I get the same vibe from Geary about Luke Spencer sometimes. Like he doesn't know whether he should get all serious and existential about it ("I am an AC-TOR") or he mocks it and looks down on it because he never amounted to anything else.

And Hannah is key. There's nobody really relatable on 2.0, the way Andrea was. For all of us "normal" folk. :-)

Aside from being cheesy, how do you think it is like the original 90210?

This 90210 lacks the one thing that really kept the original 90210 on the air, even through the bad times - Aaron Spelling.

I agree about Spelling. I feel, if he were alive and at the helm, we'd have pretty normal, average kids, not complete spoiled brats.

I do feel with the show, it just has the original charm. It's very wholesome while at the same time, exposing a lot of what really does occur, as stupid as it may seem to some of us. It's just got a good vibe of familiarity. A lot of the plot lines are dangling but a lot is resolved in an episode.

My major gripe. I don't feel 100% connected to anyone. We need more development. Period. I feel it's a little too plotty and less about development.

I guess I'm just less about comparing it to the original and just enjoying what it is. A connection to a favorite show of mine that feels a bit familiar, yet it's very different and not as good, but I'm pretty entertained by it. Had it not been for Garth, Doherty and the fact that it has 90210 attached to it, I may not be as defensive about it.

Believe me, the show has it's faults but I think it's got something going for it. I can't explain it, but it just kind of works.

I really do wish we had a little bit better of a cast though. Sigh.
