This is going to be a bad week for most, especially Days. It always seems to be a bad week in recent years. I almost fear seeing the numbers.

And the show is right back where it was :shame:
And it was expected, regardless of the writing, who was on, etc. I mean, Days was decent last week so it's not like the show completely showed down. It moved alot of story last week.

I keep telling people these numbers aren't changing. They are past that. You can change whatever you want about the shows. It just isn't happening and TPTB know it, which is why they probably don't care anymore. The only increases come from big events and even those increases are minimal at best and then the show drops the next week. It took the Olympics for any show to have a significant ratings increase and I think everyone knows alot of that was simply the TV being left on or people just being hooked by the action and bolting when things calmed down. It's like I said before, today's audience is about the action. They want death, explosions, etc. The things that make soaps what they are do nothing for numbers anymore. The people who count in the numbers don't seem to care about the things we on this board do and it's sad but I think, more or less, that is why execs no longer seem to worry about ratings. I think they acknowledge them but the soaps don't seem to panic as much. It's all about the budgets now and I think soaps realize the numbers will only continue to bleed. I think soaps and television in general are looking at other ways to measure viewership now. They know people are watching online or reading spoilers or whatever. They know not everyone who watches these shows counts in the numbers.

This week has been horrible to soaps in recent years and I was actually expecting worse. I think September will be rough. It always is for soaps, as is October. Novembers seems to get soaps going again until we fit the usual doldrums of Spring.

One positive is that the 18-49 demo isn't too bad and Days did seem to do ok there.

Yay Y&R!! It so deserves to go up!! Woohoo!! And it looks like DAYS didn't gain any new viewers from Olympics. Or maybe what people said (about people just leaving their TV on and not really watching DAYS) was true...

I think that was a big part of it Manny. I know from people I talk to that happens a lot. You get busy or your show goes off and you go to do something - come back later and realize you left it on that channel and change it then.

Exactly.

And especially if you had Olympics, followed by DAYS, then again Olympics. (I don't know if that was how it went in USA, but I think someone said it was), then of course people left their TVs on.

I know when I was a kid, we would never turn off the TV. We would watch it, then go do something, but the TV would be on. Just so it's not silence.

That is the way it is here. When I leave the den, I never cut the TV off. I will watch something and not plan to watch something for awhile. I will go and do my work and leave it on that same channel until I get back.

I don't know about the other soaps, but the numbers for Days is wrong.
Monday (2.75) had higher numbers than Tuesday (2.61) yet they rated Monday 1.9 and Tuesday 2.0?
I think that mix up also causes the Days average for the week to go to 1.9 rather than 2.0.
This may not seem like a big difference but that is a mistake of over 100,000 viewers.

For the 9 billionth time in the ratings threads - viewers and HH numbers are two totally separate numbers and one has nothing to do with the other - one does not determine the other.

The first number on Monday means that Days has 1.9 Households viewing that day. On that Day they are larger households viewing with means they had more estimated viewers. For instance that day they may have had a college dorm to tune in and got credit for the viewers in that dorm. They got counted for all the viewers but only 1 household.

On Tuesday that dorm possibly tuned out, but another household tuned in. But that household only had 3 people in it instead of 200. They got counted for 1 household again on Tuesday but not as many viewers. Those are 2 totally different numbers and one does not determine the other.

As to the overall average, you can not go by the numbers that are there to figure the average. When Nielsen makes the weekly average they take the daily numbers out to 2 decimal places and make the average. For instance Monday could have only been a 1.85 but they averaged it up. They use the 1.85 to determine the weekly average and not the 1.9.

So Days numbers are not wrong.
