Amy Poehler is spreading her small screen wings and flying away. She says she will take a break from "Saturday Night Live" after the November election to give birth to her first child. "It's gonna be really hard — Boyz II Men hard — to say goodbye to yesterday," Amy says in the new issue of Men's Vogue. " 'SNL' was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down." And it gets worse, or better, depending on your point of view. She's not coming back to "SNL" after maternity leave. Instead Poehler is preparing to star in her own NBC series from the executive producers of "The Office." At least we have that to look forward to. And there's always Poehler's animated kids' show "The Mighty B!" in which she portrays overachieving Honeybee scout Bessie Higgenbottom. We have yet to tune into it, but we may have to now. |

i expected this with the news of Amy's new show, which i'm obviously going to watch..But her exit will be tough on SNL...Over the last few years with Tina Fey, Maya Rudulph, and now Amy Poehler's exit they've been gutted of the women on the show...We will only be left with Kristen Wetig.. But at least they have her for the election specials...Which should be a blast.. |

I knew this was coming. She's having a baby, has a new show coming, and is up for an Emmy this year. Plus, her film career is really on the rise so she's ready. As Kev said, SNL's female cast has been gutted and that isn't good since it's lacking with it's male cast too. It's lost so many big stars in recent years and everytime the show does have someone good, they soon leave for bigger things. I think the days of sustained excellence at SNL are gone. I think the minute anyone on the show hits it big, they are gone. At least Poehler will be here for the election stuff and hopefully we get some more good stuff with her and Fey. |

SNL is like the Hotel California, lol. I'm sure she'll be back whenever they need her. If America hasn't seen the last of Hillary Clinton, then SNL hasn't seen the last of Amy Poehler. |

This sucks HARD! Poehler is right up there with some of SNL's all-time great women actresses. Kristen Wigg will be the only remaining women cast member that is off the wall hilarious. SNL better find someone funny and fust to replace Poehler. |

You know whats crazy, come next year 5 former SNL members will be on NBC shows: Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock, Molly Shannon on Kath & Kim, and Amy Poehler on her new show...Plus Jimmy Fallon is getting Conan's old slot..At least NBC is keeping their SNL stars on their network...Am i missing anyone else?

I don't think so, Kev. SNL has always been a breeding ground for talent but it seems like in recent times much of the talent has stayed with NBC. Maybe NBC tries to keep the big stars so that they can return to SNL once in awhile. It's a smart idea and at least NBC is keeping the SNL talent on their network. If SNL must lose them, at least NBC gets to keep them. I do agree they need to find a suitable replacement because the show has like no one I care about anymore LOL. |

Oh man. I have adored her ever since The Upright Citizens Brigade on Comedy Central like 10 years ago and will miss her doing sketch comedy so much. I wish her the best on her baby and will try to check out her new show though. |

Kristen Wiig is great, but as with much of the show the writing sucks hard and it takes away from the talent of those involved. Hader, Armisen and Forte are wasted. And Samberg too. And Maya Rudolph was always horrible. Always. I can't forgive her for her cringe-worthy Whitney Huston impression.. or most of everything else she did. Amy has her moments, but they're not any bit consistent. At least not the last few years. She's not Gilda-level great or anywhere near that, so she's replaceable. One thing to keep in mind about SNL is that it's very cyclical. I've heard the death bell ring for the show before after the loss of a lot of talent and the arrival of castmembers who simply didn't click (together or with viewers) and then *pow* out of nowhere it all comes together. I'd never count SNL completely out. |

Oh it definitely has a cyclical feel, not to long ago it was god awful, after the great wave of the late eighties/early nineties left, i think thats the right timeframe. |

^ Absolutely Matt When Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Victoria Jackson, Jon Lovitz, Al Franken and Julia Sweeny left people said SNL would never recover Then comes David Spade, Ellen Cleghorne, Mike Myers, Tim Meadows, Norm Macdonald and were as popular as the previous actors. And the cycle began again after they left and Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Chris Kattan, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer and Jimmy Fallon were brought in. SNL will always bounce back. |
