Nicole suffered during her marriage to Victor. He tortured her and she did bring some of it on herself. Nicole's punishment was not finding happiness and I think this time around she may get it. Time for things to change and that's what I think they are going with her story this time around which is why she's developing new relationships and saying she just wants to get it right this time around. I hope she does.
I agree that Nicole got some payback from Victor. I just don't think she's paid anywhere near as much as Sami has, and for worse crimes.

The way I see it Nicole paid in ADVANCE.

The reason I consider her forced 'child' porn and physical abuse as relevant is because it dictated how she behaved and treated herself once she was an adult
I would guess that Nicole is nearly a classic example of an incest survivor. The drinking, the low self-esteem even the way she prostituted herself in her marriages to Lucas and Victor. I'm not saying that it excuses her actions but it explains it in an all too realistic way.

What was Sami's excuse for keeping mum about Lexie's sketch breast cancer results? Oh yeah...she wanted to keep blackmailing Lexie so she could keep Austin. Why did she want Austin? Because her sisters always got the better toys.
Sami's excuse? She saw John and MArlena doing the hortizontal mambo on a conference table. :D

You know, I'm not really understanding the Nicole arguments either. I think over the past few months seeing a different softer side of her has made me like her more, and showed me that Ari can actually out-act a shitload of the cast. She's always been comical, but lately she's been pulling off a lot of things I never thought she could. Now to an extent, I agree with those who think the more emotional side is taking over a bit with who she is...but do I think that's a bad thing? No. I really don't. If anything Nicole needed the extra layers when she first came on, but now that we've seen a few months of it, we're being shown a darker side to her. Her desires to kill Trent and take what she believes belongs to her. That's giving us both sides of the pancake when it comes to Nicole, and I love it. She's always been looking out for herself and that's what she continues to do. Nothing wrong with vulnerability, cause Nicole is still a bitch through and through.

Interesting segway, because I feel like over the past couples weeks or so Melanie was getting too soft on us and teary. I'm glad that on Friday we saw her spring back to her sense of humor and flirting with Nick. MB is capable of both, but I just prefer seeing the bitchy, witty, sarcastic acting from her than upset all the time. I don't want her to become too emo. Chelsea is a character who constantly goes from one extreme to another in the blink of an eye, and it makes me dislike her. I don't want that with Melanie.

Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea...tsk tsk. It's nice to have you back, but...please stop annoying me. I wish I could find some medium with this girl. She's always acting completely selfish, and while I agree that she has aright to be mad at Kate for keeping her PAST relationship with Daniel a secret, there's no excuse for the way Chelsea was belittling Kate's heath problems and caling her names. I don't even see the point in Chelsea continually going up to people and talking down about everyone when she's intentionally hurt people without looking back once. I mean, it's a tough thing to get through, of course, but Chelsea needs to just get over it. Yeah, it sucks you fooled youself into a relationship, and it's quite the misfortune, but GET OVER IT. Like Nick so awesomely said, she needs to stop feeling so sorry for herself.

I obviously enjoyed the Kate drama this week. I guess some of you think the connection with Daniel isn't as stong as it was, but I'm feeling and seeing it. Yeah, of course they're not going to be outright sexy or flirting while talking about coughing up blood and having lung cancer. The chem is different in those scenes. Over the summer I constantly got the vibe that Kate and Daniel were still attracted to each other despite him still being heavily involved with Chelsea. Now, I'm starting to see that they care about each other and it may not be just physical. That's a much more subtle thing to find in scenes and for actors to portray, which leads us into a whole new set of things to come. I believe Daniel's concern for Kate, and I'm glad that a man is showing a consistant interest in her. About time. She should've been beating guys off her with sticks this whole time.

Very good post.

I don't think many of us will ever agree on this as it's clear everyone likes different things and views character/stories differently.

I will say that now that I have watched Monday's...they did a good job again of showing all sides of Nicole. She has her comical side, her dark side, her snarky side, her greedy/scheming side, and her vulnerable/soft side all on display Monday in her scenes with Daniel. We even get some old school Kate and Nicole zingers.

By the way, I know when we learned of Kate's new story many had concerns over whether or not the details of her condition (such as how Kate doesn't smoke and how non smokers can get the disease) would be made known onscreen. I can say they are made known and Daniel and Kate work through them early on in Monday's episode. The Trent stuff is also pretty good on Monday and we get Doug/Julie/Mickey/Maggie interaction (without no Green talk....yay!!). They are out together and end up supporting Caroline. Julie even has a bad feeling about Melanie, citing her very own troublemaker days. It seems the show is trying to bring the Horton's back into focus again. We saw Mickey and Julie at the hospital board meeting and now we have Mickey, Maggie, Doug, and Julie involved again and also interacting with Nick. Lucas even mentions Alice is watching Allie on Monday. I like that. Hope we get to see more Horton's.

The Bo/Roman/Caroline stuff is very sad Monday too. The show did a good job with that and showing the conflict. They didn't mention it in detail but it's pretty clear Caroline removed the knife in an attempt to help Trent.

This has been an incredibly enlightening and entertaining thread. I think stuff like this is why I like to come here...many sides, all respectful and intelligent! Everyone is a fan of the show.

Look forward to Monday, Pheonix! You always have me looking forward to the next day, which is nice since spoilers are few and far between.

Fridays show dragged a few times, and the Green talk was lame...I really thought we were done with that because Ed Scott was gone...But the ending was pretty darn exciting and i love that we have a murder mystery..I just hope Claude isn't the killer, thats too easy and predictable..

Phoenix you have me really looking forward to monday...

Also wanted to say welcome to all the new Days fans that have joined this board..There are so many new faces in this thread its crazy...Hope to become more familiar with all you soon..

Claude is my first thought because he's just recently been brought in so he's an obvious choise. He's also obvious because soaps rarely have a contract character be the killer unless there is a good excuse why they would not go to jail. I could see Days having Trent die from all the injuries so everyone is guilty and of course, that is too complicated a situation for the Salem PD so they would never be charged.

Anyone think Steph could have killed him in self-defense as he started to attack her and she flashed back to the rape, having then blocked it out?

They are going the typical DAYS route with setting up this murder mystery...everyone has a motive, everyone is making public threats, people mysteriously go off on their own, etc. I loved Caroline getting all protective of Max and taking on Trent, but I hate the rage-filled version of Max we're seeing again. Maybe he will kill Trent and go to prison for murder for the rest of his life.....only, of course, it would only be about eight weeks because Caroline or Stephanie would go to Roman and cry and beg a little bit and he would come up with some scheme where Max could rat out a drug dealer, get beat up and have his sentence commuted.
At least these characters have motives to kill Trent, because he's a creep..Remember at the start of the serial killer storyline, when in a span of 2 or 3 days everyone wanted to kill Abe...That was so unbelievable..
Someone being a creep is not a good enough reason to kill him. That's my problem with this murder story. They should have waited with it till November sweeps or maybe New Years Eve (murder at midnight like they did with Colin back in 2002) . They should have had Trent do more bad/evil things to the good people of Salem so they get real motives. The only bad thing Trent did during his time in Salem was that he tried to pimp out his daughter (and in the past he abused Nicole). I would have liked to see Trent stab, shoot, or maybe force himself on someone, at least SOMETHING! Instead of just having different people beat him (John kicking him, Max punching him, Melanie slapping him). Or better yet, have Trent stab John as revenge for beating him. Hell, Trent giving Max a good old beating would have been nice. I'm so disappointed with the way Days wasted Roscoe's talent. They basically had him doing the same scenes over and over during the entire summer and then when it finally got good they killed him off. Typical Days, they did the same with Eddie Velez in 2001.

John Aniston is just the man, with him and Joe Mascalo I really can't complain too much about DAYS. They are two of my all time favorite actors on DAYS. Loved seeing Victor taunt Nicole while she was telling him about her past with Trent.

I also have to talk about the Victor/Nicole scenes as another poster mentioned concern on Friday about Victor being out of character. I disagree completely. What I liked most is that the Victor/Nicole dynamic was back in full force, right from his asking what she was babbling about in the first scene. His reaction to learning the truth was true to form, especially his laughing and questioning her using her sad story to convince him to let her keep the money. You could tell when Nicole got into the abuse part of her story that Victor was emotionally effected. The expression on his face changed (good acting by John Aniston) and that led to some things later on like his mentioning to Bo and Hope that he wouldn't press fraud charges, saying her losing his money would satisfy as the punishment for her deceiving him so there was no need to press charges. He recognized she was a victim and you could tell a part of him still recognizes the hell she has had to ensure in her life. He still has a soft spot for her deep down, much like he does Kate. I think that all tied in with his phone call. He is clearly going to do something to Trent and it will be interesting to see what. Love that we got a Nico mention. Haven't heard about him in awhile. Also, the added touch of Victor mentioning he did a background check on her before marrying her was such a nice touch as it tied nicely into the Victor character and his relationship with Nicole. He's intelligent and would do something like that. Again, the dynamic with the both of them was great. Victor has Nicole's number and she has his, much like Kate, yet they both still have a soft spot for each other. Loved the Nicole/Trent scene at the end too. Good end and nice foreboding feel.
I don't get why they said that either. Victor was totally in character!

On another note, I can't remember the name of the person who plays the mayor, but I'm not impressed with his acting at all. His expressions seem very flat and he looks down a lot.
I don't like him either. He reminds me of Antonio Sabato Jr. Not only with the bad acting but their voices sounds the same.

I did like the way it all played out with seeing things from Trent's point of view and him watching her and the breathing. It had a mystery novel feel and it was creepy. I like that some of Ed Scott's techniques are still around.
Phoenix I have to ask this, why is it that every time there is something good techniques you give Ed Scott the credit? He's not even on the show anymore yet you are sure that it's because of him we saw it from Trent's POW. Couldn't it be Gary Tomlin that was behind that? I just don't get all the Ed Scott worshipping when there aren't any real facts that can prove stuff like that.

I started out kind of liking Melanie but now I've sort of cooled on her. I'm not sure why, but we'll see how her story goes. If the story were done well I wouldn't mind Chelsea and Nick being together again, or I'd at least like to see a good triangle with Nick genuinely torn between Melanie and Chelsea.

I'm still creeped out by Bo and Hope taking a romantic walk in a cemetery of all places, not to mention bumping into two cops taking their coffee break in that same cemetery. I guess it's necessary to guard these places since the dead keep coming back in Salem. I hope the "Who killed Trent" murder mystery is good. I haven't enjoyed a Days murder mystery since Emma Marshall was killed.

I don't think it was really meant to be a romantic walk. Bo wanted to visit "Pop's" cemetery to "talk" to him about guidance for the whole commissioner thing. That's not unusual for people to visit the graves of the dead when they have serious decisions to make.
