Of course, but then the issue of collective punishment (I thinkt that's what you call it over there as well) comes in. Do you take away or limit a woman's rights because someone takes advantage of the system, or do you have to oversee and ask that people don't take advantage of it. Which isen't possible either. It's tricky. Neither is the right choice. To me, what's the main objective is that women deserve and need the right to have a choice and to decide what happens to their own body.

Re the state issue: That already happens to some extent. There are many stories of women (teens, mostly) who cross state lines because of the various abortion laws. Sure, I'd love for those babies to be adopted, too. Maybe, instead of outlawing abortions, mindsets just need to be changed? I still don't think Planned Parenthood is this big seven-headed monster. Like everything else, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. But once again, I don't think abortion should be the deciding factor, any more than the environment should be the one and only deciding factor or gay issues. Even (Gasp, I'm saying this!), education issues shouldn't be the one and only factor, although I dare say it probably affects more people than the abortion issue (aside from the fact that we'll either be funding abortions for the poor or the children that are born who are not wanted and haven't been put up for adoption.) Definitely, gun control or lack of shouldn't be the one deciding factor. That's why I quit being a party voter. Truly, no one candidate is making me totally happy. I'm just closer to Obama's issues on health care, education, and other factors such as these. If there is a way to make adoption more noble for those who are carrying children who don't want them, I would be one happy camper. |

IMO this election is so much more than abortion rights. This election, who we vote in, is going to affect our wallets. Our country is in a huge financial crisis, we have men and women employed overseas fighting for our rights. I really think that as a woman I would be remiss to focus soley on where the candidates stand on abortion rights. I would be shocked/appalled if Roe v. Wade were ever over turned. It wouldn't stop women from getting abortions. All it would do is lead us back toward back alley abortions, fake doctors, coat hangers and women dying. We already know from how history played out before abortions were legal. Is that a road we really want to go back down? I don't think anyone in the government would be willing to risk the inevitable by overturning Roe v. Wade. There is so much more at stake with this "changing of the guard" this election, than just abortion rights. We need to expand our views of the candidates to include all the areas that need changing in our country, not just one. I have been guilty of doing that in the past, and voted along party lines. I won't be doing that anymore. Sorry if I am coming off as preachy. This is obviously just my opinion. This election somehow feels bigger than years past for some reason. I guess it's just due to what a horrible state our country is in right now. We are in debt to China for 600 billion dollars, a country with which we clash with on almost every fundamental level. And in turn they are producing products with Melamine in them, poisoning people. How the heck does this happen? We rely way too heavily on energy from other countries, when we could become free of that debt by increasing our drilling and building more nuclear plants. I just feel that these issues are more pressing than focusing on something that I seriously doubt is really an issue for this day and age. Again, all just my opinion. |

Wow with all the issues in the world today and aboriton is at number 1, I think not. There is too many issues besides abortion to let that decide who you should vote for. In any case, I don't agree with abortion, but I feel that its not my place to judge anyone that does. I will leave the judging to God, that's not my place or anyone's for that matter. The one thing I have always dislike about all these different political parties is they use there party to judge people. |

Amen!! Everybody is entitled to their opinion on the issues and are equally entitled to be involved in our political process. I have many friends that volunteer for campaigns, use websites and blogs to talk about how they feel about issues and just generally try to spread the word, so to speak, about their candidate or issues. Sometimes I agree with them, sometimes I vehemently disagree, but I don't begrudge them their opinions and the differences do not affect our friendship. Nancy isn't doing anything different than my friends. She's got a wider exposure because of her fanclub and website, but it's still the same idea. I'm glad that she got some of her friends together and had this kind of chat. Whether you agree or disagree with her politics, it's wonderful to see people getting involved and trying to get others involved as well. Participation in any form is vital. And while I wouldn't join in a Daytime for McCain event, I'd applaud the people who organized it for trying to get more and more people involved in our political process. |
