I figured Days would go up. They had a good week last week with the Trent murder buildup and the J&M story got alot of play too. Things are really picking up. Not only that but that film noir recap episode really set Days back last week. If not for that Monday number, they probably would not have decreased so badly so I knew this week would be better by default. |

I'm still waiting for the official word that Days has been renewed because I find it hard to believe that NBC wants to hold onto the only soap they have when getting a 1.9 is considered a good week. |

Why? They held onto Passions for years when it was under 2.0 and that was when most other shows were above 2.0. Granted, Passions had a cheaper budget but still. Not only that but look how many other shows are down with Days. The HH numbers are also weighed differently now so a 1.9 may mean more then it used to. The show is still up vs last year when most shows are down and it's in the top 5 in HH and viewers. That is something, even if it's not saying much in this current climate. NBC as a whole is in disarray so I think it's just sticking with something with a guaranteed audience. Not only that but they don't have the time to focus on daytime right now. They have to worry about primetime so that helps Days. I also think Corday is allowing NBC to use Days as a promotional vehicle for it's other programs and causes. It's clear the show has more NBC influence now, much like Passions did, and that must help. There is also what King has said many times and what many of us have also assumed as well...that the networks don't care about HH anymore. It's about demos and using the soaps for other means like promoting primetime, etc. If they cared about HH, we would see more behavior like we saw in the early 2000's when execs acted on poor ratings. Back then, we would see writing and other changes. Now we see nothing and ratings have been like this for many shows in awhile. |

The only thing I can guess is that NBC is waiting closer until the time its contract with NBC is up, but I have no idea why. The show is renewed for two more years. Y&R and B&B have been delivering. I find B&B silly, but it has been delivering. |

Maybe they think they can scare more fans into tuning in? Just a thought. In the past, renewal announcements always came with cast changes and writing changes so that held them up. Ed Scott said two months ago it was about money. My guess is Days has to take a cut and until they decide what they are cutting, nothing is official. They already seemed to backtrack on one firing (Nadia Bjorlin) so who knows where they are at. I do agree with you, King. Y&R and B&B are good right now. I do roll my eyes with B&B at times but I don't mind a little silliness as long as it's in small doses. |

It does make sense that Days and NBC needs to agree on how to achieve the cuts that we all guess need to be made and that is why no news on an announcement. The difference with Passions though is ownership, NBC owned Passions while Sony and Corday own Days so NBC gets very little of Days dwindling profits while they got all of Passions. That aside, you probably are correct that right now NBC can't focus on daytime but they will get to it and I fully expect to see Days be replaced with reruns of some lame sitcom or some syndicated show. |
