Thanks Rick! This is great news. Now we don't have to feel like an ax is hanging over our collective heads, waiting to fall. Let's hope Corday and Co. step up and give the audience a great three years. |

Days had no comment on its renewal — I asked today. Not a good sign. |

Still no definite word? That sucks. I think DAYS has been pretty good for the last few days. |

I don't intend any offense with this.. but. Do you think that NBC would really give you, of all people, any definite word about it? Especially after HigleyGate? |

I hate to admit it but the same thought occurred to me. However, the show has no problem talking to Michael Fairman and according to him, nothing has been said about the renewal, one way or the other. |

Wait-- I thought renewal thru 2010 was a done deal, though financial terms not announced. Wasn't that from the lips of Corday lo those many mos ago? And why would they invest in fan meet and greet at Universal if they were axing show in 1Q09? And I have also noticed heavy rotation promos of the show on Today-- prime real estate. Early in the week they are rotating promos 2x per show, later in the week (when the ad rates are higher for movie promos, etc.) they STILL air promos-- even if only :15 sec ones-- fairly consistently. They were NOT doing that before the Olympics... I have to think the noise re renewal is just like the noise around BD. Smoke. Fire. That sort of thing. |

But this isn't spoiler info, the exit of a popular actor, or questions about a union investigation. The renewal of a soap isn't a "scoop." It's huge news that both the network and the respective show wants to share to the press, no matter who the member of the press is. The renewal of DAYS is always huge news that is put out to the press *the moment* the deal is made. It happened in 1998(when there was the big DAYS/NBC renewal and those serious ABC talks), 2003(?) when it was alleged by Michael Logan that the network had DAYS's cancellation already typed up and ready to go before an 11th hour save. The fact that neither DAYS nor NBC will confirm this to the press is very telling. But I don't mind eating crow if it means people get to keep their jobs. I'm not doubting Rick or the DR's source at all. Maybe DAYS is renewed, but has an out for an end-of-the-summer airdate to give the affiliates time to find a syndie program to replace it? Who knows? But the big question is why NBC hasn't put this in a press release to ease the fears of its fans? Why won't the show release a statement? Edited by bellcurve, Oct 6 2008, 11:24 PM.

We may never know the reason why they're waiting this long. And who knows, they might never confirm it...but it's true. ;) |

^I know myself it's true, King. My theory is that it's just budget reasons (determining what to cut and such) or maybe NBC thinks it can scare viewers that stopped watching into tuning in. |

Honestly, I don't even care about their reasons for not coming forward with it, as long as the show is renewed. Ideally, for me, the delay would be because we're getting a new Head Writer and they want to wait until they actually have someone to replace Higley before they announce the renewal, but I know I that won't happen. |

I'd still like to know more about the terms of the deal. Is it a solid two year deal or are there outs in the contract, in case DAYS underperforms during sweeps, etc? Maybe they haven't told the press or the fans anything, but the affiliates(especially the O&O's) have to know something. I would assume they wouldn't want to be left out to dry if the last airdate for the contract is indeed March 2009. That leaves them a good five to six months(not to mention a sweeps period) without a daytime program to fill the void. Edited by bellcurve, Oct 7 2008, 12:01 AM.

No offense but we've heard this a few times before so I am going to wait for the official announcement. I'm doing that because while I believe its being renewed I also believe there will be some strings attached so I want the full story before responding. |
