DH is right about the logistical headache a three episode week would cause the affiliates.

Who even watches MyNetworkTV? Who even knows what it is and who's an affiliate? You think they're on the fast path to zero budget and cancellation on CBS, you wouldnt want to see what'd happen to them over there.
It's available in the US, Mexico and Canada. I watched Fashion House on that channel. I heard they wanted to get into daytime soaps so I don't know.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm still trying to keep all of the names straight and meant no harm.

With respect to MyNetworkTV, they didn't even know how to properly market their product to the people who would be interested in their shows: true blue soap fans. From what I understood, they only decided to do press releases, teasers, and spoilers AFTER the WICKED WICKED GAMES/WATCH OVER ME cycle(when they scaled the shows back to two-hour movie-esque blocks). And by that point, the damage was done and Greg Meidel wanted out of the novelas altogether.

MyNetworkTV's primary interest now is in low-budget, crappy, (mostly)non-union work. There's no way they would take on the expense of two New York shows.

With regard to the CBS shows cutting down to three days a week, there's no way I'd see daytime's two most watched programs reduce their number of episodes to three days a week, thus reducing their profit.

I do find it odd that they are even entertaining the idea of reducing the two shows to three days a week. Will they air classics on the other two days? Recaps? "Character" Narratives in the vein of what SUNSET BEACH did on a week hiatus to shift things around and draw in new viewers? Would they even air anything at all on those two days?

There's no way any local affiliate will go for any program airing three days a week. Affiliates make more money from shows airing in syndication anyway. I'd rather see CBS axe both of these shows and give them both(or at least, ATWT) an ending with dignity.

It would make more sense for CBS to either combine the two shows or package them via their syndication arm for local affiliates.

You're right though - They would have to pay lots of fees.

Check this out lol

MyNetworkTV® Body Slams Previous Ratings Record

Network’s Largest Audience Ever Tunes in to the Premiere of “WWE® Friday Night SmackDown®”

MyNetworkTV Delivers the Most Male Viewers in History of the Network and Tops All Other Broadcast Networks’ Friday Performance in M18-34

NEW YORK – MyNetworkTV was the king of the ring on Friday night as the most viewers in the history of the network tuned-in for the two-hour all-star debut of “WWE Friday Night SmackDown” announced Greg Meidel , president of MyNetworkTV. The network premiere also delivered the most M18-34 (1.2) and M18-49 (1.3) viewers in MNT history, as “WWE Friday Night SmackDown” won the night in the coveted M18-34 demo, besting the closest broadcast network competitor by +33%.

3.2 million total viewers (P2+) (1.9 HH rtg) tuned-in to the MyNetworkTV telecast of “WWE Friday Night SmackDown.” The Superstar-studded premiere garnered MyNetworkTV a 217% ratings increase in HH and 233% in A18-49 over the same Friday last year.

In making the announcement, Meidel stated, “The all-star kick-off of ‘WWE Friday Night SmackDown,’ on its new home on MyNetworkTV was a knockout. We look forward to the edge of your seat storylines and Superstar matches that the WWE has in store this season.”

For the first time ever on broadcast television, it was a night of Champion vs. Champion including a “Triple Threat Match” between WWE Champion Triple H®, World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho® and ECW® Champion Matt Hardy™ with Triple H coming out on top.

Geof Rochester, Executive Vice President of Marketing for WWE, added, “Friday's ratings performance was just further evidence that WWE builds networks having been a ratings driver for Spike TV, CW and UPN in the past.”

“WWE Friday Night SmackDown” is presented on Friday nights at 8 PM (ET/PT) on MyNetworkTV.

Holy crap. MyNet scored a 1.9 Household for a program? Did hell freeze over?! LOL.

I'm glad Meidel(or whoever runs the crapfest) acquired SMACKDOWN. Maybe they can build some sort of interesting lineup around the success of that program for its male viewers.

I found it funny that many people on the board say that B&B wouldn't do well in a 30 minutes format when the show is already 30 minutes.

there was no question Smackdown would be a hit over there. It doesnt matter who airs that show, its core audience would follow it anywhere. Most of their events are on higher tier cable or PPV, so an outlet like MNTV is hardly an obstacle.

The CW, continuing to be the most stupidly run network, was dumb for axing it. It was their highest rated program, and the demo they're going for isnt even the money demo. But, what do you expect from the head of UPN?

I think we have to consider that this is the first Smackdown show on a new network, so the 1.9 rating is nothing to jump for joy about yet since most people are going to be curious in seeing a new show or a current one on an another network. I would focus on what the numbers will be like in the next four to six weeks.

If soaps were to go on MyNetworkTV, I don't think they will get the numbers they wanted or even get half the viewers they currently have. Also, FOX isn't the most trustworthy network when it comes to giving tv shows a chance to build an audience.

I don't see a difference in producing a 38 minutes to a 18 or 22 minutes soap (other than costs.) If TIIC can't handle writing a show for 38 minutes for five days a week, then fire them and quit bringing them back.

Even Degrassi: TNG, over the past couple of seasons, can't handle the 18 to 22 minutes of their 19 or 22 episodes (depending on the season) and they're a primetime show, so, I don't see how soaps can't maintain that kind of pace if they were to go into a 18 or 22 minutes, three episodes a week format all year around. The same kind of problems are still going to be there, only shorter.

I think they meant the show shouldn't be aired only three times a week and not that it shouldn't be 30 minutes long. Most of the posters here are savvy enough to know that B&B is a half hour program even if they don't watch. Even I can remember that even if I can't get my Drew's straight. I think most people would prefer a 30 minute format over a 60 minute/three times a week deal. The three times a week airing would have virtually no chance of surviving IMO. Just about every affiliate would fill all five days with JUDGE KAREN or Bonnie Hunt's fiftieth attempt at a show.
