I'm shocked you didn't pick DAYS for Directing. The plane crash was amazing.

I agree. I don't think any other show comes close to Days providing the submit the plane crash. The way that episode was shot with the frantic-like camera angles and shots and the way the crash itself took place was so unlike anything I've, personally, seen on a soap. It was like a movie.

Not sure about the other nominees but Days should definitely be among them and probably should win.

I agree about Egan. Annie has become fascinating, at least for me.

I won't comment on Todd/Marty until the story reaches it's climax. If there isn't a good payoff, then I will be very upset because right now I can't stand the story AT ALL.

Oh ITA!

Maybe it was because Dena wrote it and that's why Nelson didn't put it up? LOL

Well, Dena wasn't credited yet. It was during the strike even though it's believed she wrote through her husband and her buddy Victor G. It's not about the writing though. This is for directing so I don't think Higley writing or not writing matters.

Nelson was praising Days around that time so I am shocked he didn't mention Days because that plane crash was just above and beyond daytime from a technical aspect, at least IMO.

Perhaps Nelson chose those four soaps because their direction has been great all year round, rather than one bright spot throughout the year like DAYS had. The plane crash was amazing, but I don't think I'd give them the Emmy. I think OLTL deserves it once again for some of the location shots they've taken this year as well as the on-set direction that is superb. They deserve it.

Yeah but Days' directing has been solid all year too. Yeah I know Ed Scott screwed up but him and the directors have done a superb job this year and Tomlin is continuing that. I'm simply saying they should be at least mentioned as a nod. i understand GH being there and maybe AMC (depending on the tornado).

I agree OLTL should be nominated but they were downright awful until June. That has always been OLTL's weakest aspect IMO but the past few months, especially during location shoots recently as you mentioned, has been solid.

I would say AMC, Days, GH, and OLTL. I would have Days winning but as long as it's those 4, I'm ok with it. I just don't see how Days isn't at least in the conversation for this. It's the one category they should be a lock to be nominated in.

Eh, I disagree about DAYS. Only the plane crash stands out to me as a good episode, direction wise. The rest of the year, nothing really stands out to me, unlike the others, which are always great in directing wise on a daily basis.

And OLTL has been great direction wise all year round. The location scenes started in April, I believe, but even before then, you had great on-set direction IMO.

And Y&R, well they're just Y&R and they have one of the top budgets in daytime, so of course they're going to be given praise for their direction because they can give good direction spots because they have the finances.

So yes, I agree with Nelson. AMC, GH, OLTL and Y&R are my picks for Outstanding Direction next year.

I can't disagree about Y&R either. This is probably why the category sometimes gets 6-7 nominees LOL.

Days has many standouts though. The plane crash, the episode where Colleen's ashes were scattered (beautiful sequence), the plane crash aftermath, Grandpa Shawn's funeral, the film noir episodes, and there was some episodes from the beginning of the year under Hogan like the first episode of the year (which featured New Year's even parties and that beautiful montage) and I also think the episode where Belle, Shawn, Philip, and Bo are in that standoff with Rob over Claire was good too.

You could make the argument for AMC, Days, GH, OLTL, and Y&R so they should nominate all of them and decide between those.

The plane crash was nice, but I didn't think it was particularly Emmy worthy, in terms of directing. JMO.

The plane crash was visually stunning. If not directing, they should at least get editing.

Also the scene where Colleen decided to take her final vows, but sees Santos and runs out of the church. There was no dialogue (only a haunting chorus) and slow motion was used. I thought it was spectacular.

That scene was from September 2007, OBK, so that would've been in contention for last year's Emmy's. I agree it was fantastic.

If I had to make two superb submissions for Days off the top of my head (as I mentioned earlier, they have alot they can submit this year for directing), I would go with the plane crash and probably the first film noir episode. The scattering of Colleen's ashes and her death episode are high on the list too. They had some beautiful work and sequences. I think the plane crash is definitely a submission. I can't recall anyone in daytime ever doing something like that. It was so unique and it felt like a film. That, to me, cements it as something that should definitely be up for consideration. Hell, Days should be nominated for that episode alone (probably should win too). I get that other shows have had great years too but in regards to directing there are times when a show does something so amazing, you can't help but notice and award that, even if it's just one episode.

I'm in full agreement that best show and writing should be based on the year as a whole, even though it's not and never will be. Directing I think is open to either way. Most times it probably should be based on the whole year but, as I said, if a show submits something spectacular, that should be awarded just like GH's train crash and epidemic.

I don't watch Todd and Marty, and never watched the soap, but I can see why soaps do the "victim falling in love with the rapist" story...because of the damn attention it gets!!! Or should I say the attention that magazines give it!

For instance, there is this huge uproar about it - and although I have never watched the show in my life, nor have I heard about the characters, Nelson gave me some clips and lots of the current story (amnesia, etc.) so it has my interest peaked and if I get the chance, I might watch to see what happens/how it all works out.

So for all the constant negative press and hoopla and angry fans and supposed angry writers, they just added a viewer. Mission accomplished. This is the second week, no, third week Nelson has promoted it? If it is constantly pushed, people will tune in to see what the big deal is.

Actually, OLTL has proven when Tarty is on they've hit record lows. But my intention is not to have anyone stop watching OLTL, the opposite — I want the show to succeed and there are certainly better reasons to tune into Rapeview other than Tarty. I just want to start a discussion and ask some questions.

I'm new to OLTL so I don't really know a lot of this history... I also don't read spoilers but I saw a promo with Jess saying how she cannot wait for Marty to find out how Todd raped her. Todd raped Marty? ugh.
