Passions went downhill when NBC told JER that he needs to ease up with the supernatural stuff since it was costing a lot of money. NBC then sliced the show's budget and JER wrote shit from there on. He wrote good stuff too but it just took a turn for the worst during that time period. |

Yeah, I can blame JER for for killing off Tony twice, BECAUSE HE DID. It was for personal reasons. He did not like Thaao because Thaao questioned his writing for Tony. Same thing for Matt Ashford and John Aniston. And yeah, he made Tony the mastermind out of spite because Thaao accidentally outed Marlena as the s/k. I don't care how high the ratings were for the s/k, it still sucked. I don't find watching beloved vet characters killed off in demeaning ways good entertainment. |

Well, I actually liked 2004-mid 2005 when the show was going a more traditional route. |

Lets hope she doesn't mistake the actors for animals and shoot them to death. That would be terrible! |

I think we'll hear the sounds of hundreds of thousands flipping off their TV if Reilly comes back. |

I can't even believe I am saying this but maybe JER isn't such a bad thing if he is allowed to just focus on one show. I don't want any soap canceled especially Days. I have a long history with the show and there is still a lot of potential there.

Also, I may be in the minority here but I love Aiden and Greenlee and I am going to miss RB. I hope ABC can work a miracle and persuade her to stay. |

He had that opportunity after he was fired from DAYS, and PASSIONS was still a steaming pile of crap. |

LMAO! IA I don't remember Passions ever being a ratings darling. I've only seen a few eppies of Passions. I wasn't impressed. Actually, most of the time I was pointing and laughing. |

We blame JER for things with good reason, the ratings went up during the SSK storyline because people wanted to see how the characters were getting killed off, and during that storyline they killed off Grandma Horton by having her choke on one of her own donuts; which I found to be an insulting way to kill off a character such as hers. You know if they hadn't brought back the characters that were killed off during the SSK storyline, JER still would have brought the show down the same way he ended up doing with recycling stories from the 90's pretty badly and not coming up with much that was new or exciting. Even though I was a Passions fan off and on during it's run, the way the writing was dumbed down so often was one of the things that always aggravated me; there were more times then I could count where I would ask myself what the hell I was doing watching that show. It started off decently enough but just like everything else JER writes it went downhill and in true JER fashion it went downhill badly. JER can keep his incest loving ass holed up in his home wherever it is and stay the hell away from Days, he's had enough chances writing for that show; and like others have said if he was to return then I'd be dropping Days like a hot potato...... |

A couple of posts were removed from this thread. Remember the new rule that a new post must be more than just an emoticon. They do not add anything to the conversation plus sometimes they can be used to bait other posters. That was not the case this time, but both times they violated the rule so were removed. Some have been warned on this already and need to remember the new rule. If you have not checked out the Code of Chivalry it has to be updated due to some problems on the board - please check it out. |

Now as far as JER. I do blame him for some things. As I have said before I don't think a lot of what we got with the SSK story was actually what he planned to write as NBC and Corday had gotten too nervous at the time. I doubt seriously that Alice was ever intended to be a victim in the original story but by that time they knew all the characters were coming back so why not kill off Alice as a ratings stunt and do in the most outlandish way possible. This was another of those times where Corday got nervous and NBC did too with all the backlash and came to work without their balls and put a stop to a story. It is a shame that a woman like Irna Phillips had more balls than these men do. Corday once had a set but he lost them somewhere about 2000. NBC has never had them. They have always gotten too nervous - all the way back to the 50's in regards to their daytime shows. I don't want JER back because he and Corday cannot work together. Days does not need that type of atmosphere back - now that they seem to have people back stage finally who are working together. But as far as JER goes I don't give him all the blame with how the SSK story and his 2nd run turne dout. He gets a lot of it. But I think as far as JER goes he gets more blame for the destruction of Days not from the last stint but the first one. All of his over the stuff top with the Possession and Kristen ruined Days and daytime forever. Yes it was innovative and it brought buzz. But the buzz it brought was the wrong kind of buzz. Daytime and Days lost more credibilty both inside and outside the daytime genre than ever with his writing. Daytime needs to work on restoring it's respectibility outside of daytime and with the daytime fans. And sadly JER at the helm of a writing staff can't do that. |

Completely agreed. JER would just create more problems than he'd solve, if he solved any. It's time to stop dipping into the same dried up well that daytime keeps going back to. It's time for some fresh talent to be brought up rather than someone whose best stuff is around a decade behind him. Dena and Tomlin, I think, need to go. The show has lately lacked any punch and it's time they started risking it on new blood with fresh ideas rather than older "talent" that keeps on bringing the same baggage. JER has supernatural, incestuous, nonsensical crap and Dena brings, what I can best describe, this random lack of substance and soul style of writing. My pipe dream is for them to fire Tomlin and Higley, then bring back Ed Scott to bring in his own people to do things his own way. The man was on the #1 soap in daytime for the past, what, two decades or so? He actually been really successful in daytime and it'd be much better than having a bunch of Passions washouts brought into the fold. But that's a pipe dream, like I said. I'd still rather them find someone fresh and new and bring them in to spice the show up. |

Nelson, if Days wants to drive this viewer away from the show then they will put Reilly back in. I absolutely refuse to sit through anything JER writes for this show again, if anything, and I will take a walk instead of sitting and making myself sick. Judging by the reax of some people on this board, I'm judging I wouldn't be alone. |
