Listen, if they let Hoagie write the show, it'd be no. 1 — but after firing Ed over Dena, bring JER in. He has a lot to prove, I bet he wouldn't go ape shit this time. I want this show to live. It's the first soap I ever fell in love with or watched.

I would agree to just about anything that would save DAYS. But I honestly feel that bringing JER back would only accomplish the opposite.

You guys like to blame JER for EVERYTHING - Same goes for Higley.
JER was only the HW at Days. It was Corday and the fans that bitch and moan that ruined the Salem Serial Killer storyline. Corday FORCED JER to bring back those people back from the dead. During the SSK storyline, ratings went sky high for Days but as soon as he brought them back from the dead, everything went downhill again.

With the rumors going around that Corday has given up total creative power to Tomlin and Higley - If JER was brought back as HW, he can shake things up at Days and fix everything. Plus, Tomlin worked for Passions for over 5 years and I don't see why he and JER wouldn't have a problem working together.

Corday needs to get his act together and do the right thing. Demote Dena Higley and hire James E Reilly.
We blame JER for things with good reason, the ratings went up during the SSK storyline because people wanted to see how the characters were getting killed off, and during that storyline they killed off Grandma Horton by having her choke on one of her own donuts; which I found to be an insulting way to kill off a character such as hers.

You know if they hadn't brought back the characters that were killed off during the SSK storyline, JER still would have brought the show down the same way he ended up doing with recycling stories from the 90's pretty badly and not coming up with much that was new or exciting.

Even though I was a Passions fan off and on during it's run, the way the writing was dumbed down so often was one of the things that always aggravated me; there were more times then I could count where I would ask myself what the hell I was doing watching that show. It started off decently enough but just like everything else JER writes it went downhill and in true JER fashion it went downhill badly.

JER can keep his incest loving ass holed up in his home wherever it is and stay the hell away from Days, he's had enough chances writing for that show; and like others have said if he was to return then I'd be dropping Days like a hot potato......

Completely agreed.

JER would just create more problems than he'd solve, if he solved any.

It's time to stop dipping into the same dried up well that daytime keeps going back to. It's time for some fresh talent to be brought up rather than someone whose best stuff is around a decade behind him. Dena and Tomlin, I think, need to go. The show has lately lacked any punch and it's time they started risking it on new blood with fresh ideas rather than older "talent" that keeps on bringing the same baggage. JER has supernatural, incestuous, nonsensical crap and Dena brings, what I can best describe, this random lack of substance and soul style of writing.

My pipe dream is for them to fire Tomlin and Higley, then bring back Ed Scott to bring in his own people to do things his own way. The man was on the #1 soap in daytime for the past, what, two decades or so? He actually been really successful in daytime and it'd be much better than having a bunch of Passions washouts brought into the fold.

But that's a pipe dream, like I said.

I'd still rather them find someone fresh and new and bring them in to spice the show up.
Dena and Tomlin, I think, need to go.

Tomlin just got there... wtf. :eyeroll:

Ed Scott isn't coming back. Not now, not ever! He blew his shot by trying to be a writer. He should blame his diva too since she was the one who got him in trouble. (I know you mentioned dream but I'm just saying...)

He actually been really successful in daytime and it'd be much better than having a bunch of Passions washouts brought into the fold.

:eyeroll: *Waits 10 mins then tries to reply nicely*
That is so fucking offensive to Passions fans like myself. Atleast those "washouts" are good looking and they have a fan base unlike some off the assholes at Days. Go "washout"s, go!!!

Nelson, if Days wants to drive this viewer away from the show then they will put Reilly back in. I absolutely refuse to sit through anything JER writes for this show again, if anything, and I will take a walk instead of sitting and making myself sick.

Judging by the reax of some people on this board, I'm judging I wouldn't be alone.
I'll talk you into watching. :D

How many last ditch attempts to "save" Days can they give JER!? My God.

The show is so doomed. We're either stuck with Higley or Reilly? LoL God! So laughable.

If Reilly does in fact come back, I hope like hell that he actually focuses on his stories since Passions is over. Maybe then he'll be worth something. *crosses fingers*

Can we please leave the Palin attacks and praise to the political forum. I have been trying to escape all that negativity today and have stayed away from the political forum and staying in the soap threads.

I am tired of all that and since we have a place for it can we leave it there.

I have gone back and forth over this and some of these I am just going on hype, but I would say the frontrunners in each category would be:

Cady McClain (Dixie, AMC)
Micki Grant (Mrs. Remington, AMC)
Tamara Braun (Ava, Days)
Patricia Pease (Kimberly, Days)
Shirley Jones (Colleen, Days)
Genie Francis (Laura, GH)
Kristina Wagner (Felicia, GH)
Barbara Garrick (Allison, OLTL)
Tonja Walker (Alex, OLTL)
January LaVoy (Noelle, OLTL)
Signy Coleman (Hope, Y&R)
Lesli Kay (Felicia, Y&R)

Wally Kurth (Sam, ATWT)
Ian Buchanan (James, B&B)
Joe Penny (Martino, Days)
Davide Schiavone (Young Stefano, Days)
Vincent Pastore (GH)
Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL)
David Andrew MacDonald (Edmond, GL)
Seamus Davey Fitzpatrick (Will, GL) - left him off my list
Tuc Watkins (David, OLTL)
John Rue (Moe, OLTL)
John Cunningham (Walter, OLTL)
Jerry Douglas (John/Allistair, Y&R)

I saw the majority of those performances and loved them. Some of them weren't great over the top acting but more nuanced performances from very seasoned actors.
Based on this list alone, I have to agree with the NATAS' decision to not use a guest star category. The problem is that many people in the NATAS don't see many of them on the list as big rating draws or stars, so why would they want to do a category like that when must of those actors lack media
buzz or is look upon as talent from the past.

Now, if the soaps were able to get someone like Will Smith, Madonna, Clint Eastwood, Angelina Jolie, or some of the more expensive talent across the entertainment field, than there would a much more better case for a category like that.

If I was a contract player, I would agree with this! I wouldn't Genie stealing an Emmy from me when I've been acting my little heart out all year long! Let's spread the love! What's an Extra two Emmys?

They used to have the guest star category - John Wesley Shipp won it twice - why did they take it out?

Don't the cost of making an emmy is about $25,000-$50,000 a category? Maybe the academy don't want to pay out any more money for trophies.

The academy makes that money back. They charge them to be members of it and then for every name that is submitted the show or the performer has to pay an entry fee. They collect that entry fee from at least 24 people per category as each show submits 3 in each category. And they give out one trophy. Plus all the blue ribbon panels of judges are volunteer. So the cost of it is not it.

I would imagine the biggest hassel for the board of govenors over NATAS is getting people to judge. They have a hard enough time now and to add 2 more categories where 24 more people would possibly have to be judged is not going to make it easier for them to get judges.

Of course if they were smart they would change the process but they won't.

As far as there not being names in there. Many times the guest category in the primetime is not filled with big name stars either. So I doubt very seriously that has anything to do with it. Plus remember the first time they gave the Guest Award out a little unknow director named Hugh McPhillips won it beating out a name actress Joan Fontaine.

Steve, can you refresh my ever failing memory? I can't remember what show JF guested on. This is getting sad. I used to have such a good memory for this stuff. The Joan Fontaine thing is just beyond my grasp and driving me nuts. I also agree with you on Micki Grant. I thought she did a great job in that handful of episodes. I wasn't getting the credits at that time since my VCR was cutting out right after the last scene of AMC and I knew I recognized the actress playing Mrs Remington. I was pleasantly surprised to read that it was "Peggy" from AW.

Joan Fontaine was on Ryan's Hope. I forget the name of the character right now but she was an agent who Kimberly used to try to break into movies or TV - any way into acting.

Fontaine was wonderful.

I remember the old feud kind of started up again for Fontaine and her sister Olivia de Havilland after that - because Joan got big time publicity for the role on RH. So Olivia kind of got her name out there with some small roles a few years after that in particular on one of the North & South miniseries.

Thank you! I DO remember that now, especially the reigniting of the feud and the publicity Olivia de Havilland got from the mini-series. She was interviewed on GOOD MORNING AMERICA and they played a clip. And Joan Fontaine WAS great on RH. I miss that show sometimes.

Good Article Nelson .... lots of scoopage!

My guess on this blind item:
Which soap actor has been asked to tone down his drunken, outspoken behaviour at soap events?

Bryan D.
Huh? I was with Bryan at Thaao's dinner and he was NOT drunk but alot of fun. In fact I was never much of a fan but he completely won me over. Saw him at the Q&A and the autograph session. Again NOT drunk. He wasnt at the Sat dinner either and saw him up until 12 midnight. So no he wasn't drunk during the public events. The one who was is Matt Ashford. Love the guy but that is the truth.
