I will be greedy and say I want to see DAYS back at #2 in total viewers because we all know Y&R will be #1 for life. Seriously though, its good to see DAYS demos getting back to where they used to be. Now if the John and Marlena SL would get a jolt I really think DAYS would be sitting pretty. Its time for John to regain his memory already!

I'm hoping that Brady's return will send Marlena and John back to the frontburner..I really think Eric and Galen might help out the ratings a bit, i dont' see them hurting the ratings at all..

As long as they aren't shoved down our throats I don't see them hurting the ratings either. Who knows the teen demos might skyrocket with 2 former PSNS castmembers.

I was just about to post those, Y&R.

The demos are right but the viewers were wrong for Days. Toups just said the ABC release screwed up with Days' total viewer numbers. It went down 44, 000, which is not bad. It held on to much of it's gain from last week and the show is doing very well in demos. It's #1 by .3 in 18-34, #2 in 18-49, and #1 in Girls 12-17. NBC has to be happy and the show was at 2.0 every day but Friday, which seems to be the day that screws Days every week.

All in all, something is working because Days is really jumping in demos and NBC has to be happy with that. I think what others said is key...the suspense is back and everyday has something happening. It may not be big but it's something and there is a bit more promotion and the previews have been better tailored to make you want to watch. The show is a nice mix of things and it's all about the stories. It doesn't matter who is on. If something is happening, you will see some reward in ratings, demos, etc. Not only that but what a difference having some story direction makes. The minute Days started committing to story direction and actually building stories that will have an impact, the numbers responded. It just goes to show you stay the course until you have enough reason not to. The lack of cohesion and lack of direction held it down all spring and summer and now that the show has improved on those issues, the result has been positive.

Hope it continues. I think Galen and Eric will help in the demos. HH and viewers...not much but demos for sure. I do think this will help Corday with finances in discussions with NBC. It won't help much but it helps a little.

Good for AMC. It was great last week. Thursday's episode was one of the best IMO and it got the lowest number. Weird.

GH is second from last. When is the last time that happened? I doubt it will last. OLTL will probably have a good two weeks coming with the payoffs but AMC will likely drop off enough for GH to make a comeback since GH has some decent stuff coming. I'm just glad AMC got something out of this.

All in all, not a bad week of ratings overall. The soaps have done better this October then they have in recent times.

I'm not surprised about AMC, but damn, what on earth did ATWT do that got them tied for 3rd?

While i'm bummed Days isn't in 3rd in total viewers, all NBC cares about is demos so i'm happy Days is doing very well in those categories..

And hopefully other soaps will take a look at AMC and their tornado and realize that heavily promoted big events can bring in huge numbers...Just like with Days and the plane crash in February...

True but where does it get them in the long run? They just drop the next week.

All soaps have to learn that if you do something like this, you better have some huge stuff to follow to keep the fans watching. The sad part is that doesn't even always work. After the plane crash on Days, they brought solid material for at least a month after and got nothing in return. The show went right back to around 2.0-2.2 until late May when the apparent behind the scenes chaos began.

AMC didn't even do this during sweeps (which doesn't matter to me as I'm not a supporter of forcing shit onscreen just because it's sweeps...it has to come from within the story for me) so it gets nothing out of it but a week's worth of good numbers. Maybe Tamara Braun and the afrermath can help them sustain some of this. I hope it does.

My point is big events are nice but they don't help in the long run. The fans who count in these numbers don't stick around and there is no guaranteed way to get them too. The best way is to just have alot of stuff in the aftermath to hold the fans' attention. My hope is that soaps eventually learn to go back to the way they use to do things. I doubt it will ever happen since shows change stories all the time now and there is no commitment to long-term vision anymore but I still hope they realize you can't just pull big events out for sweeps. You also can't just create something for sweeps. Commit to long-term story and plan things out so you have big events and climaxes throughout the year, with some of the biggest material coming during sweeps (which can mean big stunts or simply big revelations and the like). That way you keep the audience all year and also pull out big stuff during sweeps that comes from WITHIN the story. It's not forcing it. It's a natural flow. Soaps need to go back to that because that is the best thing to do IMO.

I guess I didn't notice how many total viewers GL and ATWT have lost in the past year.

Wow.

But at least with AMC they are following it with David's return..As well as this big story with Bianca and Tamara's character that is going to get big buzz..

I wonder how it's possible that DAYS lost 44,000 in TOTAL Viewers but they had no losses, only gains...

Women 18-49 Viewers (+84,000)
Girls 12-17 Viewers (+8,000)
Men 18+ Viewers (+28,000)

They may have lost a lot in the other demo we don't see - the 50 and older. That is a demo that we never get to see but they could have lost more in that demo and that demo has been proven to be the most loyal demo of viewers as they tend to stick with a show longer as most get set in their ways and don't sway with the wind.

I just wonder what Ed Scott is thinking about all of this.

Days is still down in demos year on year. So if all Days cares about is Demos then they should have stuck with Sheffer because he was still doing better than Higley there.

I look at HHs overall and Days is 2nd to last. Doesn't seem like good news to me no matter how the NBC press release wants to spin it.
