I think the awards are just typical of the ratings for soaps. In the 70's and early 80's they competed against soaps so they were pretty low rated at that point. The first year they were on one of the talk shows and they got very decent ratings that year. When they went to primetime the ratings jumped up but soaps were popular at the time. We were getting primetime specials at that time since soaps were highly regarded and part of pop culture. As ratings started dropping we lost the SOD Awards and then we lost the primetime specials. But it is not just the Daytime Emmys other awards shows have gone down too over the years. The different country music awards don't do as well as they used too. It all depends on the popularity of the genres they are honoring. And sadly right now the popularity of daytime soaps with viewers is just not there, and the parts of daytime that are still popular are not getting nominated for the awards so no one is going to tune in since they aren't on. |

My first throught is...I hate this...but I probably won't watch their nightime version of the Emmys either. If the networks have no respect for daytime, why should I give them any of my respect (and ratings) for the primetime emmy awards? On that I can stand firm. Loretta |

I still stand by adding more technical categories to the main broadcast, like more children's programming categories, and handing the ceremony over to PBS. Yes, the soap categories might be done in the first hour, and PBS daytime programming might be overly pimped, but I am sure PBS would offer us a better show and actually treat the daytime industry with some semblance of respect. I know PBS reads and responds to their e-mails, I've done it before. Anyway, you can e-mail PBS at this link regarding broadcasting the Daytime Emmy's. Tell them about what a good vehicle it would be for PBS daytime programming and all of that, make it sound beneficial for them as best, if anyone cares. LOL! Here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/aboutsite/aboutsite_emailform.html Also, e-mail the National Academy of Arts & Sciences about hosting the Daytime Emmy's on PBS here: info@emmyonline.tv Edited by Y&RWorldTurner, Nov 5 2008, 06:15 PM.

An idea just occurred to me. The awards may just end up being broadcast strictly online like the Creative Arts categories were this year. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing. |
