OLTL's Andrea Evans Is Out

After a six-month stint as Tina, Andrea Evans finished taping at ONE LIFE TO LIVE last week. "There was always an understanding that it would be short term," Evans tells Digest. "I didn't know how this was going to affect my own personal life with having to do so much traveling, and I'm in a situation where I can't relocate." Meanwhile, the show released the following statement to dispel any rumors: "ABC and ONE LIFE TO LIVE were thrilled to have Andrea Evans reprise the role of Tina Lord after 18 years. Her return was made possible with the understanding that it would be short term as Ms. Evans' life, family and home are on the west coast. OLTL did not ask that she move across the country in order for her to return to the show." However, both Evans and Executive Producer Frank Valentini say the door is open for Evans to reprise the role. "The character of Tina is a very important part of the OLTL canvas and when there is an opportunity to have her (Tina and Andrea) return at a future date, the show would be happy to explore it." Look for an exclusive exit interview with Evans in the November 25 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Well....

We kind of saw this coming. It got to the point where I couldn't tell if she was Tina or Rebecca.

Sharongate, bitches!

Good riddance, Andrea's acting got progressively bad over the years and Tina's return was severely botched.

I might be in the minority, but Karen Witter was a better Tina, and I stand by that...

At least it was confirmed so we don't have to guess anymore. I just hope we get some more scenes between Viki and Tina before Andrea is off screen.

This isn't surprising.

I tuned into OLTL today and I was almost embarrassed for her. That acting was downright atrocious!

No KIDDING.

I'm not even sure if she knew what the hell her character was doing.

Thank you so much Andrea Evans
for coming back home,
even if it was for a short stay!

I loved having the one and only Tina back.

The story wasn't what I had in mind,
but she was back and that was good enough for me.

btw, Rebecca was a rip-off of Tina,
not the other way around.

Alvin, Many of us have agreed with you for a long time. I forgot all about Andrea Evans after Karen Witter took over. Karen Witter owned the role for me and many others.

And at one time I think even Erika Slezak felt the same way.

I love Andrea a lot. But she was awful this go around as Tina. To me her last 2 characters on B&B and PSNS were just cut out of the same cloth and she didn't give anything different to either role. And she tried to act Tina just like that. It was terrible.

The only time I saw a flash of the Tina I grew up with was when Loprieno was on for those few days. Not just for nostalgic reason, but somehow, the actor seemed to ground Andrea as much as Bree tends to bring out the worst acting tendencies in Andrea. I don't think it's entirely Andrea's fault. When you play scenes with yourself, or with a character like Tess, or with a dog (as adorable as the dog may be), it's not like you have a realm of options in front of you. And there were a few times when that day's script writer focused in on Tina's relationship with Sarah that I really enjoyed. But I'm one of those soap fans who much prefer to see scenes between a flighty mother and betrayed daughter... or a materialistic sister up against her moral-compass-older-sister, then scenes about secret rooms, jewels and "nutty principalities".

I think Tina could definitely come back, and I agree with Mason - I will miss her when she goes. But I do think a break is needed because I think much of the last six months didn't play out the way Ron and Company hoped it would with the audience. Not that it was all bad, but I suspect they expected a much different reaction from the audience (and the ratings) then they got.

Which is fine. It happens to the best of soap operas. You think one story will be a smash, and it ends up hitting the ground faster than a lead balloon. But if Tina goes somewhere to lick her wounds, and then comes back in a storyline that acknowledges the writers learned from their mistakes... one that plays to Andrea's strengths as an actress instead of her weaknesses... then I'm all for it.

Not surprising but I'll still miss her. She better leave David Vickers in Llanview though.

I have a feeling David Vickers and her new brood of pups will leave Llanview with Tina. The best compensation I could have would be to bring the real man David Vickers back.
